Whether you’re a snowbird or a snow bunny, there’s no reason you can’t safely sport a sunny glow wherever your travels take you. As a practicing dermatologist, I advocate daily use of sunscreen, but I also believe in regular topical application of vitamin D. Combining vitamin D that with encapsulated DHA lets my Alpha Beta Glow products help get you radically radiant! Try Alpha Beta Glow Pads for Face to get a natural-looking, sun-kissed glow any season, and to also help give you the appearance of firmer, smoother skin, the look of smaller pores, and the appearance of reduced surface imperfections. And Alpha Beta Glow Pads for Body give you the appearance of tonedskin, a beach goddess glow. Not enough Alpha Beta Glow for you? Stay tuned for the debut of the newest member of the family, available to QVC shoppers February 26 on Tuesday Night Beauty at 9pm ET and at QVC.com.

Have any fun travel plans this spring?

What Main Dishes Do You Like to Serve as Appetizers?

Hello, foodies…

How fun were the ITKWD Golden Spatula Awards yesterday? Here's a snapshot of all our winners. I'm STILL in shock that my team surprised me with my own GIANT spatula…

David & Paula Deen

David Himself!

Mally & Mary

Mary QVC!

John McLemore

MarkCharles Misilli

And, how about those Oscars!? Did you see Barbara Streisand sing The Way We Were? I just love her…so timeless, so PERFECT!

Now, onto Wednesday's show and my recipe. We've got just one "Party Bite" left for February. Can you believe it? This hors d'oeuvre is inspired by an entrée…one of my favorites, in fact.

Mini Chicken Kiev with Roasted Broccoli

This recipe is prepared with the KitchenAid Professional 9-Speed Digital Hand Mixer (K34571).

Go to David's Recipe Item Page for the full list of items that David has used in his recipes.

Ingredients:

1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
1 Tbsp garlic, minced
2 Tbsp parsley, chopped
1 Tbsp dill, chopped
2 Tbsp scallions, chopped
1 Tbsp + 1 tsp kosher salt
1-1/2 tsp ground black pepper, divided
1-1/2 lbs ground chicken meat
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup cornflake crumbs

Directions:

Combine the butter, garlic, parsley, dill, scallions, 1 tsp salt, and a 1/2 tsp pepper in a medium-size bowl. Place the butter mixture on a piece of plastic wrap and shape it into a log about the size of a stick of butter. Chill completely.

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Combine the ground chicken, 1 Tbsp salt, and 1 tsp of black pepper. Mix until the salt and pepper are evenly distributed into the meat. Divide the mixture into eight balls. Set aside.

Remove the chilled butter from plastic wrap and cut into eight slices. Place one slice in the middle of each patty. Form the edges of the patties around the butter, being sure the butter is sealed into the meat.

Place the flour, beaten egg, and cornflake crumbs in three separate bowls. Dredge the chicken in flour, egg, and finally the cornflake crumbs. Place the coated chicken seam-side down on a nonstick cookie sheet. Repeat with the remaining stuffed chicken. Bake for about 25–30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through. Serve with the roasted broccoli (recipe follows).

Roasted Broccoli

Ingredients:

1-1/2 broccoli crowns, cut into florets
1/8 cup olive oil
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 425°F. Toss the broccoli with the oil, lemon, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.

Spread the broccoli onto a cookie sheet in a single layer. Bake until cooked through and the edges are brown, about 20 minutes.

Place the broccoli back into the bowl and toss with Parmesan cheese.

Because Wednesday's recipe is derived from an entrée, tell me, what "main dishes" do you like to serve as appetizers? Pizza? Quesadillas? Meatballs? I'll see you this Wednesday at 8pm ET.

Keep it flavorful!
David

Less than three weeks until St Patrick's Day…the countdown is on! Even the sheep in Connemara are forming a line to grab the new and exciting items that will come to QVC this year. I was on the Quarry last week and took this photo from right outside the gate!

The Quarry

There will be lots of new items from my workshop coming and a whole hour of Connemara Marble at 5 PM EST.

I would love to hear of any suggestions what you would like to see on the day.

All the best from spring like Ireland, where the daffodils are just starting to bloom!

Big Bonanza Silver Sale... and a very big announcement!

0
0

I just saw the entire layout of merchandise for the 25th Annual Big Bonanza Silver Sale happening on Friday, March 1st, and WOW, what an incredible selection!  I couldn’t decide if it was like standing on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence looking at the fine Italian craftsmanship, walking by the windows in New York City at the fine store on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, or standing at the counter of one of the most prestigious jewelry stores in the world.

Many of the hottest things happening in jewelry will be featured throughout the day.  There will be lots of focus on the wrist with amazing cuffs and bangles.  Status links in bracelets and necklaces are right on trend.  Other key directions include Tubogas, hoops and dangles, colors of metal, cabochons, lace cut outs, and pave-set gemstones.

I wanted to let you know the history behind Bonanza.  This year marks the 156th anniversary of the discovery of the richest silver strike in North America, the Comstock Lode.  It was found in Virginia City, Nevada, and produced over $400 million of gold and silver.  The Lode was named after T P Comstock who bluffed his way into a partnership with the two Irishmen who actually discovered the claim.  His nickname was “Old Pancake” because he was too lazy to even make bread.

I have to mention a few of my favorite items from the day.  The VicenzaSilver Sterling Triple Tubogas Bracelet (J277764) is spectacular!  This item is produced in Italy and is made by a difficult and time consuming process.  Tubogas is flexible and some of the top jewelry designers in the world use this technique.  This gorgeous bracelet will be offered in all sterling silver or 14K gold plated in either yellow- or rose-tone.  The tricolor look is amazing!

Also from Italy is a magnificent VicenzaSilver Braided Diamond Cut Necklace (J278877).  It is an updated herringbone-style chain that shimmers and glistens.  Each necklace has six woven strands that are braided to form a single masterpiece.  I tried to decide which was the most beautiful:  sterling silver, 14K yellow gold plated, or 14K rose gold plated.  I’ll let you decide.

What could be better than a dome of pave-set diamonds?  Especially if they come in a choice of Blue, Green, Yellow, or Red and weigh a total of 1 carat?  Please watch out for this incredible ring (J278981)!  I had a hard time deciding my favorite, but I had go with blue.

Please tune in onMarch 1st at midnight when Rick will not only launch the TSV, but will have one of the coolest pieces I have ever seen in personalized jewelry (J279770).  It is right on what is happening in high end designer jewelry and under $30!!!!!!

And finally,  a very big announcement.  We would love to get your feedback.  Please tell us, what is your favorite piece of silver jewelry from the past 25 years and why?  If you share your story with us, three lucky winners will be randomly selected to win an UltraFineSilver Bracelet.  Good luck!!!

Revenhair, thank you for the kind words and your suggestion.  Stay tuned, you will be seeing more blue lace agate this Spring and Summer.

Bk, thanks for your comments on the Estate Jewelry Collection; it is really exciting.  The bell is one of my all-time favorite pieces.  It is made by Zahd Makarim from Bali and we have several other pieces by Zahd.  These include J157156, J109378, and J109376.  Click on one of these and go to the “About the Designer” tab; it will tell you his story.

Take care,

Peyton

LCny Spring Colors Are Coming - Take the Poll and Share Your Fave!

Hello my LCNY fashionistas.  It's almost the end of February and I must say I am very ready for spring.  It has been a bit cold, damp and gloomy in West Chester and working with our new spring fashions makes me thirsty for some warmth and sunshine.  Spring is a time of new and rebirth. We always know it is around the corner and are very welcoming when it arrives.   Speaking of new and rebirth  I had an invitation to speak to a lovely group of women the other night about fashion, top trends, must haves and yes, color. I talked about the non mom jean look, the staple white button down shirt, the must have maxi dress, the natural color shoe but the real buzz was COLOR.  We all talked about our comfort level of browns and blacks, and of course no prints.  But as I have been sharing with all of you since the beginning of January, color can repurpose existing fashions in your closet, print can be a camouflage, and yes color gives us the glow.  So check out our color selections for the spring LCNY collection: jade, royal blue, pink grapefruit, papaya, and pool blue.

LCny Spring Colors!

Take the poll below to let us know your favorite color and the item you purchased and can not wait to wear.  You know by now I am a strong fan of any combo of green, but I must say papaya has intrigued me. MBR always shines in the pool blue, but looks shall we say just glowing in the pink grapefruit.  So join us Wednesday morning, for girl talk, laughter, and a twirl on the color wheel... you know it is going to be fun:)

GLORIOUS WINTER WEDDING

0
0

This last weekend Cam and I were honored to be guests at Catherine Gendel's beautiful wedding, which was held in the glorious Adirondack Mountains surrounding Lake Placid. What a heavenly place. As Canadians (and now Americans, too!), Cam and I joked about this winter setting (including all the fun outdoor activities) being strangely familiar!

Can I just say that Catherine (though with or without makeup, etc. is a beauty) was a simply stunning bride! And no one does hospitality like Kathy Gendel, my dear friend.

I know I've mentioned that in my former life in Canada, I really did have a career in music as a classical/opera/musical theater singer. I still sing as a soloist on a regular basis at my church and include it when it fits as I speak to women's groups. (Yes, I do have to practice almost daily! I have since I was seven years old!) Well, the Gendel's asked me to sing at Catherine's wedding so I thought you might enjoy the clip they posted on You Tube.

Here's me singing Schubert's "Ave Maria" with my husband, Cam, on the piano.

You were created to be lovely.  Be lovely.

A True Sterling Anniversary!

Hard to believe that we are celebrating the silver anniversary, 25 years of Big Bonanza Silver Day!  This is a time when it is fun to look back and remember how we got started.  Twenty five years ago, we already had a successful gold event, our California Gold Rush.  My fellow silver lovers were wondering if we could do a silver event, so we started researching silver strikes here in the United States.  We wanted to do the event on the anniversary of a big silver day in our history.  So we came upon the biggest silver strike in the history of the United States, the Comstock Lode, discovered in Virginia City, Nevada.  Since that date was March 1st, our first-ever silver event debuted then too.  If you remember our event days we used to dress up, late 1800's style, and the set looked like something right out of a Western movie!  And we even had the QVC dancers entertaining on the day.  (I just can't make this stuff up!)  To be totally honest, I was part of the troupe and the video that survives is hilariously funny!  Some of the classic items we sold were a set of 10 herringbone Italian necklaces, set of twelve bracelets, and a lovely heart charm necklace that I wore to Virginia City in the early 1990s, and still wear today.

I went to Virigina City to shoot with our video team, and found out that they were originally looking for gold in the mines under the city.  What they were discovering was "blue stuff" they were discarding until someone realized it was precious silver.  March 1st marked the discovery!  A young American writer who later became well known as Mark Twain spent time in Virginia City, and the Disney Imagineers visited the town when looking for the inspiration for Phantom Manor in Disneyland Paris.  Today as we celebrate 25 years of loving sterling silver, I am so proud to see how far our styles have come and that we are honoring our silver heritage too.  I hope you will create new memories with the silver jewelry you see on this Friday, March 1st, 2013, our 25th annual  celebration of sharing a love of silver through the years!

My Week in LA for Red Carpet Style - Part One

0
0

I wanted to share some photos with you from my time in Los Angeles. This is one of two blogs I’ll be posting to give you a glimpse into Red Carpet Week. This blog includes photos starting with my arrival in L.A. on Tuesday and goes through the Red Carpet Style event on Friday evening. Tomorrow, I’ll post photos from my visit to Chaz’s studio and new home, as well as Elton John’s viewing party with my fabulous date, Cameron Silver. It was a busy week, so we split it into two parts. J

GOOD MORNING, LOS ANGELES! It was so nice to be able to wake up three hours later (according to my body clock) and still get to enjoy the sunrise. :)

Courtney and I are in love......with this amazing restaurant called "Lemonade.” It’s so good!!!! We found it right next to Mark Zunino's boutique on Beverly Boulevard. Have any of you ever been there? If you ever come to LA, you have to try it!

Mark Zunino sent me a picture of them working on the fabric for the dress. It’s breathtaking in its intricacy. This is the women doing beading, stitching, and ribbon for the body of it.

I had the best time at lunch. :) Courtney's friend Farrah lives in town and they were kind enough to let me tag along. You know people are nice when they have known each other for years, but they didn't make me feel like the “new person" in the group. :) We went to the "Ivy" on Robertson and the food was great too. :)

I had a meeting with Bradley Bayou on Wednesday. Love that guy! He’s such sweetheart and so talented! :)

I had the pleasure of meeting with Kate Somerville at her Medi-Skin Clinic. It’s beautiful. You can tell that she has a passion for interior decor as well as skincare. She has such beautiful taste in interiors. :)

Lori Goldstein and I attended a dinner with a gathering that included the QVC executive team.

I had the best time meeting with Lisa Rinna on Thursday. The only problem is that we had such a good time talking and hanging out that I was late for another meeting!

This is a photo of the racks of clothing for the show. Do you recognize anything?

Courtney, Amy, and I had a wonderful time together. I love them. :)

Courtney’s dress was beautiful and so were the accessories. She was styled by Jen Rade, a celebrity stylist who debuted her line of clothing on Friday night.

This is Jen Rade and Lisa Rinna posing for a photo. Love this shot!

After celebrities walked the red carpet, they had the chance to experience the “Instaglam” suite with our social media correspondent, Jeannie Mai. It’s pretty incredible to see how social media impacted the party. You can see tweets and Instagram posts live stream on this wall.

Because of all of the “tweeting” and such, the social team brought their HALO chargers to refuel when their iPhones started to run low. :)

Here’s a view from the party.

Jill Martin was our red carpet correspondent. She interviewed celebrities on the red carpet for QVC. Here’s a photo of her and Courtney doing a live hit from inside the party. Did you see her tote bag in the show?

Here are Jill and Jeannie posing together at the Instaglam suite.

Here’s Courtney again in between her “duties.” Her boyfriend Aaron and friend Farrah were able to attend as well.

Don’t forget—another blog is coming tomorrow!

The Big Bonanza Silver Sale is almost here!

Hi dear UltraFine readers!

We are very happy to be writing to you again especially as we have some sneak peeks on the UltraFine items for the Big Bonanza Silver Sale tomorrow, March 1st!

We are very excited to present to you the ULTRAFINE TSV!!!  Drum roll please… The “Scaletto” Riccio Bracelet!

This beautiful bracelet is an exceptional example of fine, rich, and bold Italian jewelry made in 950 silver which makes it even more precious!  The scaletto technique was born in Italy many years ago and it is very hard to find nowadays because of its manufacturing intricacy.  The scaletto is a special texture which combines both satin and polished finishes, and this riccio bracelet is like a moving stairway of sparkle and shine!

If you love distinctive, detailed pieces, you will also fall in love with the whole “scaletto” family - yes that’s right! - For the Bonanza Silver Sale we will also have the matching scaletto necklace, earrings, and ring!  All of them created for the Ultrafine collection for the very first time!

For all the “scaletto” riccio family and other beautiful UltraFine items, don’t miss the Big Bonanza Silver Sale tomorrow, March 1st, on QVC!

Engagement Party Photos!

As we move closer and closer to my son David's wedding, I thought it would be fun to share some photos of the engagement party we threw for him and his fiancé Christine. I wanted it to be a vision of white, from the white table linens and chairs, to the white roses and hydrangeas representing the purity of love that has bonded them and our families together... a new beginning (corny, but true!).

To keep it festive and protect us from harsh weather, we had a huge white tent in the backyard of my home and although the weather was a bit cooler than we would have liked, the celebrations went on!

Christine's sister Nicole put together a slide show of the bride and groom-to-be from their early childhood to the present that was projected on a big screen and left running throughout the party. Her mom brought the most gorgeous cake that was just as delicious as it was beautiful!

This is one of my favorite pictures from the party of David and Christine... I think they look like Bonnie and Clyde!

Had to share this one too... Looks like they form a heart!!

Have you or any of your close friends or family members gotten engaged or had weddings recently? Do you have any wedding advice you can share? I love hearing from you!

Thank you so much for letting me share this special time for my family with you!! Please tune in to my shows Thursday, February 28th at 9am ET and Sunday, March 3rd at 10pm ET to hear the most recent tidbits on their upcoming wedding!

xoxo,

Susan

My 20th Big Bonanza Silver Event!

0
0

I get so excited as March 1st approaches each year at QVC. Our Big Bonanza Silver event is a tradition here, and I'm lucky to have been a part of it for the past 20 years.  Do any of you remember the old fashioned, saloon girl style dresses we used to wear?  What about the way the sets used to look like an old mining town?  Fun to look at...but I have to say, I'm relieved that I don't have to wear a corset and sit on a bale of hay anymore!

This year, the Today's Special Value is actually a throwback to the very first piece of jewelry I ever presented on QVC...a riccio bracelet from Italy.  I love the weight of the bracelet, the fluidity of the piece around your wrist, and the way it sparkles.  Our buyer had a great idea to offer it in 2 widths, so there really is a look for all styles.  I hope you like it...in person, it's just fab!

What's amazing to me, is how far in advance our buyers work to develop product for this day, how they're always trying to push the envelope with new innovations, and how quickly they have to respond to the trends in fashion so that you can have the same look in silver that you're spotting on celebrities. All of that aside, what I really love about the event is the metal itself...silver is my go to, what I love to wear, what I love to buy, what I love to admire.

I love the cool feeling of smooth, shiny silver against my skin, and equally adore the amazing textures that can be woven or cast in silver by artisans from the around the world.

With all of the blues and greens in fashion this spring, there is no better choice than silver to rock your look!

I'm really looking forward to sharing some special pieces that I helped the team design during the final hours of the event, 9-midnight on Friday.  These were just a few "sneak peeks" at some of the great products and trends that you will see tomorrow on my show.

I'm proud to say that many of you over the years have told me that you were always a gold person, but that I was the one who got you into your first pieces of sterling silver....let's see if we can't find that perfect new piece for your collection again this season!

Shine on!

Jill

To the incredible team at QVC who made this possible, as well as everyone out there who purchased (or tried to purchase!) our debut "Blowout-in-a-Box" package last week, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

It was truly the thrill of a lifetime to experience the excitement of being on live TV, especially at such an amazing, star-studded Red Carpet event!  I seriously think the only people that were more excited than me were my two little boys, Grant (8) and Kit (5). And thanks to my husband who stayed home with them, you can check 'em out watching the action unfold :)
