Hi, everyone!

We are so excited to debut more pieces from our Denim & Co. Active collection! This week, Caroline from the Denim & Co. buying team is going to tell you all about them.

Happy shopping!

Gary

Hi there Denim Divas,

It’s Caroline from the Denim & Co. buying team. We are launching a few new pieces from our Denim & Co. Active collection this month. These items are fitted pieces that can mix and match back to each other to create a coordinating color story. Also, these new items will go perfectly with any Denim & Co. Active pieces you already have hanging in your closet.

So you may be thinking…

What makes them different?

While still remaining true to our Denim & Co. customers, we wanted to offer something a little different, a collection with a theme and color story each month. These items are truly “fitted” pieces, so we recommend reading the fit descriptors carefully. Also, if you’d like a more semi-fitted look, you may want to size up. We also wanted these items to have a different style then our other Active pieces, while still being able to coordinate back. You can expect the Denim & Co. colors and fabrications you know and love.

What’s new?

We are re-introducing an old customer favorite fabrication, Duo-Stretch, that lived within the Sport Savvy brand. The Duo-Stretch is our 90% Cotton/10% Spandex, bi-stretch fabrication. This is the perfect fabric for leggings and yoga pants as it is substantial while still being super comfortable with lots of stretch. Duo-Stretch plays perfectly back to all other Denim & Co. favorites like our French Terry tunics and Perfect Jersey tops.

Gary and I put together some of our favorite looks that will keep you stylish yet super comfortable as we jump into the Fall season.

These first two outfits are new items. These looks are perfect for a day at the dog park, grocery shopping, or even Zumba class.

These next two looks combine new Active pieces with some existing Actives items. Look 3 takes this beautifully sporty, Perfect Jersey top and pairs it back to our new Duo-Stretch Yoga Pants.

Wisconsin, Here I Come!!!

The birthplace of Jeanne Bice – where Quacker Factory began!

As you may know, I was a model for Quacker Factory and Jeanne Bice for many years. Throughout the years, I would often hear Jeanne talk about her love of Wisconsin. She talked about the Friday Fish Fry, the Lighthouse at Fond du Lac, her cottage on Green Lake, Kringle from Racine, WI (ah yum) & fried cheese curds (yum, yum). She always had so many wonderful stories; I would find myself on the side of the set just listening to her talk!!

For one of Jeanne’s birthdays, she threw a party in Green Lake; however, I was unable to attend and I was very sad I was not able to go. I figured I would get to one of her parties in Green Lake someday. Then, of course, three years ago, we lost our beloved Jeanne, and I thought I would never get to see the places she always talked about.

Well, this year changed all of that. John, who is a life-long friend of Tim, Jeanne’s son, invited the entire Quacker team to come stay with him and his family at their cottage on Green Lake. So Glen and I decided to go to Wisconsin and see, firsthand, where Jeanne lived and where the idea for Quacker Factory began.

John now works with us at Quacker Factory, and he has some amazing stories to share about Jeanne, Tim and Lee (Jeanne’s daughter). He was great about sharing these stories while Glen and I visited.

When planning this trip, I knew I wanted to see some of the places Jeanne talked about. I also wanted to be sure to get some yummy Wisconsin cheese!!

We flew to Chicago, rented a car and headed north. It’s about 160 miles from Chicago to Green Lake. (If you look at the map above, Green Lake isn’t shown, but it is 30 miles directly west from Fond du Lac, Jeanne’s hometown)

Once we crossed the Illinois/Wisconsin state line, I saw a sign for Widmer’s Cheese Cellars. I told Glen that we were stopping there! We got off at the exit and drove and drove and drove! Finally we entered the town of Theresa and found Widmer’s. Inside the workers were cleaning the vats used to make the cheese. (I learned that local dairy farmers bring their fresh milk daily, and Widmer’s makes the cheese right there!) And thank goodness, they also have a small retail store in the front. We looked at the choices and finally purchased a log of 10 year aged white cheddar. We did not break in to the cheese until we arrived in Green Lake, but let me tell you—it was amazing!!!! I am just sorry we did not purchase more!!

Once we arrived in Green Lake, it was just gorgeous! The trees, the homes—everything was just beautiful and so peaceful. Green Lake is Wisconsin’s deepest lake. It’s about 8 miles long and 2 miles wide. And it is spring-fed, so it’s very clear and clean. Great for sailing fishing, I was told.

We were so glad to finally be there. John and his family were great hosts!! John asked us if we wanted to relax on our first night there or did we want to go to the Friday Fish Fry. I said, the Friday Fish Fry it is!! Jeanne ALWAYS shared her stories of the FFF, and I could not wait to go.

So we headed to Walker’s, one of the Bice family favorites. Walker’s is located on a country road, surrounded by farms. You’d never find it if you didn’t know where it was. But let me tell you, the parking lot was packed! They don’t take reservations, so it’s first-come, first served. They also don’t take credit cards, and we ate our meals on styrofoam plates!! Adorable!!

I ordered the Perch. It came with fries, potato salad and coleslaw! It was delicious. I finally understood what Jeanne was talking about!!

One of the places I was most anxious to see was the original store Jeanne had in Ripon, Wisconsin, where she and her husband, Butch, lived and raised their family. Ripon is 6 miles east of Green Lake (on the way to Fond du Lac).

After her children grew and she had time on her hands, she and a good friend, Mary Ann, decided they needed to start a business. So they opened a shop. She named it the ‘Silent Woman,’ and it was located in the house where her Butch’s family had lived in Ripon, near downtown.

Always a crafter herself, Jeanne decided to specialize in handcrafted items: needlepoint, embroidered clothing, and embellished items that she designed and local women created just for her shop. It really was a ‘cottage industry.’ She also sold gift items. The Silent Woman became a huge success with the local and summer residents of the Green Lake area. Jeanne confessed she always hoped for a cloudy, rainy day that meant women couldn’t go golfing or sailing…but they could come shopping at her shop!

The home is once again a private home. But I was delighted to get to see it.

John also took me by to see one of the homes where Jeanne lived with her family and where she developed the reputation for being the ‘hostess with the mostest’ in Ripon. If you read her books, she tells how she and Butch would spend months preparing to decorate the house for Christmas. Theirs was one of the houses everyone in Ripon always drove by during the holidays!

It’s still an adorable home; I could definitely see her living there with her family.

And the park across the street from their home…

I can imagine the great memories they all had living here.

On our last night in Green Lake, we all went to dinner via boat!! What a great night. The sky was full of stars and diamonds – just like one of our Quacker Factory tops!! Hehe

The Bices had a summer cottage directly on Green Lake that had been in the Bice family for many years. So on the way to the restaurant, we passed by and I got to see the fabulous boathouse they had. It has a wonderful screened porch above for eating, playing games, or even sleeping on hot summer nights. Imagine the fun they had! You can’t build these near the shore any longer, so it’s a real treasure.

Seeing and experiencing Green Lake, Ripon, Fond du Lac, and all the beautiful sights, I could see how Jeanne got so much inspiration for Quacker Factory designs during her years there. Her memories live on in the designs Quacker Factory still creates.

After 6 wonderful days with John and his family, creating such lasting memories of beautiful Green Lake, we had to get ready to return home. But there were a few other things we wanted to see in Wisconsin.

We wanted to leave Green Lake and drive to Milwaukee to see the Harley Davidson Museum. Since it was on the way to Milwaukee, we decided to stop off in Fond du Lac to see the lighthouse that Jeanne always talked about. She revealed on air that this is where she had her first kiss.

The view from the top of the lighthouse!! This lighthouse is on Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin’s biggest lake, (see map above) in case you didn’t already know that!

(By the way, Fond du Lac, is French for ‘foot of the lake’)

Wrapping up our wonderful Jeanne memory-laden trip, we had to visit a place for Glen too – the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee.

We even got to see a Harley that was embellished—a Quacker Mobile!!! I called it a ‘Spaaaaarkwy Harley,’ in honor of my nephew Ben. It was really beautiful in person!

Last but not least, on our way to our final hotel of our trip, we stopped at Mars Cheese Castle – it is literally a castle on the side of the highway and they sell cheese. And lots of other food and drink items too!! It was fun to visit!!

Wisconsin, we loved our trip, what a beautiful state!! John suggested we return in the winter to see how the lake freezes so we can ride snowmobiles on the lake and go ice fishing…we are still thinking about that!! Wink, wink.

Until next time—Quack, Quack for now!

Easy Chicken and Veggies

I think every family has a chicken casserole recipe that they serve.  Mine is really easy and never disappoints.  I usually bake my chicken breasts, but if you are looking for a quicker way to do it, buy the cooked chicken breasts from your grocery store.  Also, you can substitute the peas & carrots with your families favorite veggies.

Easy Cheesy Chicken & Veggies

3 to 4 cooked chicken breasts, chopped

1 (16 ounce) package wide egg noodles, cooked

1 cup sour cream

2 (10 3/4 ounce) cans cream of chicken soup

1/2 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon pepper

2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

1 small onion chopped

½ cup chopped mushrooms

¼ cup chopped celery

¼ cup chopped carrots

½ cup frozen peas

1 cup crushed corn flakes, crushed

Sauté celery, onion, carrots & mushrooms just enough to soften them.

Mix cooked noodles, cooked chicken, sautéed veggies, soup, salt, pepper & sour cream.  Pour into a casserole dish.  Top with cheese & crushed corn flakes Bake 350 degrees for 25 minutes until hot & bubbly

Enjoy!!

You're Invited To Sunday Funday!

This week we had our friend Meg over for dinner. Not only did we have a delicious meal and a great time, but we also came up with a really fun idea for you! Because you're always inviting me into your homes no matter what time of day I happen to be on-air, we thought it was time we finally returned the favor and invited you over to our house!!

Sunday Funday is one of our favorite traditions and this week you're invited! We put together a quick home tour so you can get an idea of where and how we like to spend our Sunday's and pretty much every day together.

You'll notice most of the decorations we have all have some sort of back story. Some funny, some crazy, and some that mean a lot to us.

So come on it and make yourself at home, lol!

Since you came through the front door, it only makes sense to start with the foyer!

http://images.qvc.com/is/image/pic/co/AmyHomeTourBlog7.jpg

There is a small powder room right off of the foyer and while I don't think you really need to see that, I did want to show you this! This little stool was a gift from Maria McCool. We know that she's too small to use it now, but we loved it too much to not have it on display!

http://images.qvc.com/is/image/pic/co/AmyHomeTourBlog4.jpg

Now onto the dining room...

http://images.qvc.com/is/image/pic/co/AmyHomeTourBlog5.jpg

Now we can head into the most frequently used room in the house, the kitchen! We love food here, so it's no surprise that we spend a lot of time hanging out around the island and cooking away at the oven!

Thrilled to Be Nominated!

Just like the Hollywood stars interviewed on the red carpet before an awards show say, we at StriVectin are all “thrilled to be nominated!” Yes, three of our products have been nominated for the 2014 Customer Choice Beauty Awards at QVC (between you and me, I'm not at all surprised).

“And, the nominees are (to be said like the award show presenter holding the white, winning envelope!): LABS 5-Minute Glycolic Peel, Advanced Retinol Concentrated Serum, and TL Neck Cream!”

LABS 5-Minute Glycolic Peel, Advanced Retinol Concentrated Serum, and TL Neck Cream
LABS 5-Minute Glycolic Peel, Advanced Retinol Concentrated Serum, and TL Neck Cream

StriVectin LABS 5 Minute Weekly Glycolic PeelOur LABS 5-Minute Glycolic Peel has been nominated for the first time, and we thank you! You may have noticed that we combined the highest dosage of patented NIA-114 we offer (step 1) with the highest level of alpha hydroxy acid available in cosmetics today (step 2). The majority of women saw improvements in smoothness, clarity, and luminosity in just five minutes in our consumer-perception study. But, after four treatments (five minutes, once a week), the majority of women saw improvements in smoothness, luminosity, appearance of pores, texture, skin tone, and the look of lines and wrinkles.

StriVectin Advanced Retinol Concentrated Serum 1 oz.Advanced Retinol Concentrated Serum was launched in May and nominated soon after. Probably because this one treatment helps to improve the look of skin texture and uneven skin tone and the look of fine lines and deep-set wrinkles all at the same time. It achieves all this because we combined the highest dosage of retinol we offer with our patented NIA-114 technology in a serum. You can cocktail this with whatever nighttime moisturizer you use now. What I love about all three nominees is that they're easy to incorporate into whatever skin-care system you're using right now.

StriVectin-TL Neck Cream 1.7 oz.Lastly, our top-selling TL Neck Cream is nominated again, thanks to you! After two weeks of use, this one treatment helped skin look firmer and reduced the look of lines and wrinkles. How did it do all that? It addresses both neck and décolletage aging. In a clinical trial, transepidermal water loss was used to assess skin barrier function. The cream improved skin barrier function after eight weeks of use.

So, yes, we're thrilled to be nominated and we say thank you. But oh, it would be great to win, too. So, if you feel up to it and agree that any of these three treatments have made a difference in your skin, please log on to QVC.com and give us your vote!

Many thanks from your happy-to-be-nominated friend and skin guru,

—Meg Flather

Lights, Camera, DANCE PARTY!

Last week we had a photo shoot for my new head shot! It was such a blast so I wanted to show you some behind the scenes photos.

Here's a little sneak peek at what it's like to be part of a photo shoot at the Q. Prepare for lots of laughter, lots of dancing, and lots of glamming!!

It all starts in the salon! Do you think we have enough to get me "camera ready?!"

This is Robert my make up artist! He is amazing and always makes me feel so pampered and beautiful.

Meg had to grab an "after" photo to show off Robert's talents! Can you believe the transformation?? I wish everyday was photo shoot day!

And some final touches on my hairdo!

Welcome to the studio! I wanted to share this picture because it's actually a really cool element to our shoot. Our amazing and creative team puts together one of these boards for every host. We look to these images for inspiration throughout the shoot because as you can imagine, some poses get boring after 4 hours and 4 outfits lol.

And here comes the dance party.....

To keep up our energy and to get some great shots we HAD to have ourselves a little dance party. All of our stylists helped out and we played a fun game where someone would come up with a dance move for me to mirror. Some were successful, while others... were not!

Finally, I wanted to show you some of my favorite shots from the day. Keep in mind the actual photos came out a lot better than these. I'm sharing the pictures I took with my phone of the computer monitor. It really does our photographer Will, zero justice for how AMAZING all the photos came out! Thanks Will!

So what did you think? Pretty fun right?? I hoped you enjoyed as much as I did!

Croissants, Anyone?? Oui, Oui!

My friend and QVC on-air guest for Authentic Gourmet (and other favorite foodie brands), Richard Lyntton, recently spent time in Paris at a Patisserie School, learning to make homemade croissants! I asked him if he could share a favorite recipe or two with us that he learned in his classes! I’ll admit, this may not be the easiest recipe I’ve ever seen, but just imagine the fun you could have making homemade croissants! And if not, there’s always the amazingly delicious Authentic Gourmet CroissantsSmile See Richard’s Facebook page for more fun from his Paris travels!

Croissants of la cuisine Paris

Ingredients:

(Starting Dough)
8.8oz bread flour
1 tsp / 0.17oz salt
1.23oz sugar
0.35oz fresh yeast (0.17oz instant yeast)
4.05 oz warm water
1 TBsp/0.88oz melted butter

(Butter Block)
4.4oz unsalted butter

(Eggwash)
1 whole egg

(Garnish):
Chocolate Sticks or
Chocolate Chips or
Pearl Sugar or
Raisins, Cinnamon

(Sugar syrup):
3.38 oz water
1.76 oz sugar

Instructions:

1.Take a flight to Pareee!

2. Sample croissants in local café and decide to make some for yourself!

3. Go to la cuisine Paris, a local cooking school on the banks of River Seine opposite Notre Dame Cathedral.

4. Starting dough: start by making a “fountain” with the flour on the worktop, then combine the ingredient in the fountain. Knead the dough until elastic, create a ball, then wrap in plastic film and refrigerate. The dough should sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 6 hours before the lamination stage.

5. Prepare the Butter Block: Using a rolling pin and parchment paper, pound 4.23 oz butter into a thin rectangle. Refrigerate until cold and firm.

6. Lamination: Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Place the butter block on the bottom two-thirds and start folding (there should be 5 layers). Roll out and then make a “Double Fold”. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for another 30 minutes. Take the dough out of the fridge, then roll out again into a rectangle and make a “Simple Fold”. Wrap in plastic and leave to rest for another 30 minutes. At this point, dough can be refrigerated for a maximum of 48 hours, or frozen for up to two months (defrost in the refrigerator).

7. Shape Croissants: Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Trim and straighten the edges. Shape the croissants (triangle), the chocolate croissants (rectangles), and the pinwheels/baskets (squares). Place them all onto baking trays. Brush with the egg wash. Shaped croissants can be frozen for up to 2 months to be baked later (defrost in refrigerator).

8. Rising: Leave the shaped croissants on trays at room temperature for 2-3 hours until they look and feel puffy, and have doubled in size.

9. Baking: Preheat the oven at 395 degrees. Place the croissants into the oven and cook for about 15-20 minutes until golden in color, including the creases. Create steam by spraying water into the oven occasionally. Prepare the sugar syrup by boiling water and sugar together. Glaze the croissants with sugar syrup as soon as the trays come out of the oven.

Enjoy!!

X + Sleeping Beauty= Perfect!

I have always been of the belief that too much open work on the top of a ring is not very attractive. Well, I sure changed my mind when I tried on a few of this year’s HOT “X” rings at the JCK Show in Las Vegas. There is something so feminine yet powerful, and a little edgy in this silhouette.  Maybe it’s the way this motif allows us to wear a knuckle to knuckle ring without it feeling heavy or uncomfortable.

After nearly 40 years in jewelry, Bill is so excited about this new ring silhouette that he has been wearing our prototype to lunch every day to get input from the waitresses at our favorite local restaurants.  The response has been overwhelmingly exuberant!!  And as I have been making my way back through DFW to Philadelphia for our exciting shows coming up, flight attendants have been grabbing my hand to get a closer look. And they see ALOT of jewelry!!!  Can you tell I am a little excited to share this ring with you?  AND, to make our first “X” ring the absolute best it can be, I decided to create a five stone Sleeping Beauty Turquoise X upon the sterling silver X!  Oh, I just noticed that side of the ring actually forms an “O”, so this is really an” XO” ring!  Even better!

I love it, and I hope you will too!!

Late Summer Lawn Care

$
0
0

Lawns - I love the smell, feel and look of what I call “nature’s canvass.”

It is the most elemental of outdoor style and is any home’s showpiece when the lawn is lush, green and manicured.   I admit that my husband Joe is the lawn caretaker and I have gained some great tips to share on summer lawn care – by watching him do it!

So here are some mid-summer lawn care tips from Joe:

-Keep your lawn mower blades sharp.  You want to “cut” the blades of grass, not tear them.  This will keep the grass healthy and less susceptible to disease.

-Let your grass height be approximately 3-4 inches during a drought period.  The grass blades will be at their healthiest, greener and more plush.

-Do not cut more than 1/3 of your grass per cut.  You want the grass to continue to shade itself, get the nourishment from the sunlight and retain moisture.

-The rule of thumb is that lawns need an inch of rainfall or watering each week.  If you are having a “drought” period, water in the early morning.

-Summertime temperatures are too hot to add fertilization to your lawn.  Fertilizer will actually burn your grass.  Wait to do this until fall or early spring.

-Wait to aerate heavy traffic areas until the end of August or September.  This is what most major golf courses do.

So enjoy a picnic, a good book or even a hammock nap surrounded by the beautiful greens of summer!

Hello, everyone!!!

Can you believe that it’s been almost 4 years since Jeanne Bice introduced her now world-famous DreamJeannes material to the United States of America?! It was during a live audience show on September 22nd, 2010 – and the first three items were the 5 Pocket Boot cut pants, the Leggings, AND our first-ever DreamJeannes jacket!

I know that Jeanne is smiling down from heaven with our Today’s Special Value for Tuesday, September 2nd– the DreamJeannes Denim & Diamonds Jacket

Like most women, Jeanne LOVED diamonds – and she loved going to markets all over the world to find rhinestones and other embellishments that would have as much sparkle and shine as real diamonds, so that she could share them with you in her beautiful designs – and she always wanted to do a denim & diamonds jacket for each of you!

I’m so glad that her wish has finally come true!

And our design team didn’t stop just there – in honor of Jeanne, they have come up with a COMPLETE outfit – ensuring that you sparkle and shine from head to toe! How Quack-Tastic is that?!?

Here’s a picture of Angel in the jacket and the coordinating Denim & Diamonds Bootcut pants– doesn’t she look fantastic?!

I’ll be chatting with you today at 9am and again at 1pm. And my question for each of you today is:

“Why do you love Quacker Factory so much?!”

I’ll be chatting with you right here on this blog today, September 2nd, for TWO whole hours starting at 9am AND THEN AGAIN at 1pm for ANOTHER TWO whole hours!!

So make sure to join me here, as I’ll be reading some of your answers to my question on air!

Here’s the schedule for our Denim & Diamonds ‘Special’ Day on QVC:

Midnight - 1am – Angle & Jacque will start the day off – make sure to join them while all sizes and colors are still available!

3am – 4am – I’ll be with Stacey – and you can bet I’ll have some clearance-priced items with me!

9am – 11am – Angel & Carolyn will be help you bring in the bling on this beautiful day – and I’ll be chatting with you!

1pm – 3pm – Angel & Mary Beth will help you shine like a diamond – and I’ll be chatting with you again!

7pm – 8pm – Angel & Jane will have you singing Neil ‘Diamonds’ ‘Forever In Blue ‘Jeannes’ for our last Denim & Diamonds show!

See you all at 9am & 1pm ET!!!

Quacker Hugs & Love!

Patrick Hoy

First Day of Freshman Year....did I really just type that?

On Tuesday, September 2nd, my daughter starts high school.

I can't believe I just typed that!! Wasn't it just yesterday she was waking me up five times a night for feedings? Wasn't it just yesterday she took her first steps? Wasn't it just yesterday she lost her first tooth?

I know. That's what every parent says when high school looms, right? Time flies. And memories flood your mind as you pack that first freshman lunch, put that freshman on her bus, and say that quick prayer to God as she boards that all will go well and that she'll be happy.

Every year I've taken a picture of Gabby by our front door on her first day of school. The doors have changed as we've moved from state to state, chasing dreams. And she has grown. In mind, body and spirit. But what she doesn't realize, is how much I've grown too. Because of her. I say all the time that she has raised me as much as I've raised her! If God only gives you what you can handle, then I can only handle the easiest kid in the world. She's such a joy. And exudes joy.

Camera is ready to take that first day of high school pic. Mom on the other hand is still in denial!

I hope you'll swing by my Facebook page for that Freshman pic, and hopefully share with me your own memories of being "that mom" on "that day"...I'll need you to keep me company as I pace the floors wondering how the day went!

Below are a few pics from across the years. Forgive me for bragging on her so much..but I'm just so grateful that I've been blessed with such a giver of joy all these 14 years and counting. I can't wait to hear your bragging on my FB page!

1st Day of School 2012

1st Day of School 2010 (she'd kill me if she knew I was sharing these!)

1st Day of School last year

Getting the "Accelerated Reader Award" in 3rd grade...you should see the smile on Momma's face!

Mom's written a note for her in her lunch every day since Kindergarten. One year she saved all of them and put them in a photo book for me. Can you say tears?!?

Gabby making her campaign speech for student council elections. Treasurer that year!

Just months ago, receiving awards at the end of 8th grade. Here we go!

My Trip to Italy - Anybody Hungry for Italian Food?

I have told you how important family is to me and to my family in Italy.  Now I want to share some photos of our Second LOVE – the FOOD!  {#emotions_dlg.w00t}  How to describe to you the difference between American Pizza and Italian pizza?

I guess it isn’t possible … Italian pizza is such a joy – such an abundance of flavors and textures bursting in your mouth … doesn’t sound like Domino’s huh?  LOL  {#emotions_dlg.lol}

And I can’t forget to say that all of the food in Italy is made from scratch… baked or cooked fresh THAT DAY….sometimes even the vegetables – and probably the herbs were PICKED that very day!!  UG!  My mouth is watering!

Maybe it's the sauce

Here's my recipe for Red Sauce - see if it makes a difference!  {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Food is a way of life for my Italian family members.   For them it is a passion.  My Zia Maria thought nothing of cooking lunch AND dinner for over 20 people each and every day we stayed with them.

Every single meal was delectable from start to finish – and we always need a nap after!  LOL

She also made Veiteredre or the "Little Old Ladies".  We call it that because of cause of the wrinkled appearance the zucchini gives it. And if you grow your own zucchini, add the yellow flower from the plant to the ingredients.

Here Zia Maria is with the blossoms:

And here is the yummy finished product:

Here's the recipe if you want to try it:

Veiteredre ( Little Old Ladies)

Ingredients

2 cups flour
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp. salt
2 cups grated zucchini and the flowers from the plants if you grow them
Oil for frying

Heat oil in a 12 inch frying pan on high heat.

Combine ingredients and add to hot oil one tablespoon at a time until top of pan is covered. When golden brown, flip and fry on the other side until golden brown.

Remove from oil and drain on paper towel.

These were just a few of the amazing photos, dishes and a few of my family’s recipes for you.  I think I might have to do a second installement to this blog with more… if you liked it…let me know!

All my best,

Antonella

John Cullen, Aran Craft

We are into our normal summer time weather here in Ireland, with glorious sunshine at times and then, of course, a mixture of rain showers. This makes it the perfect weather for a keen cyclist like myself, a great pastime and healthy exercise. Having just recently completed my tour of Ireland, I would welcome all my American friends to give it a go!

Here are some great pictures I took along the way…

Now it’s time to be heading to QVC’s Rose of Tralee Celebration, taking place on Tuesday, September 2nd.

Here’s a peek at a new sweater I’ll be bringing you for the event. You can check it out now online:

A259709 Aran Craft Merino Wool Double Breasted Sweater Coat

See you then!

Stephen Walsh, Connemara Marble

It's been a lovely August, and we have been busy getting ready for the upcoming Rose of Tralee show!

Recently, there was a big cycling race around the streets of Rathfarnham, which is in the suburbs of Dublin, where we have our workshop.

The race took several laps, and it was exciting to see the riders speed down the village before making a sharp turn just beyond our shop...luckily no one fell off their bikes!

It was nice to take a few moments to see the race, as we have been very hard at work the last few months making our new pieces for the Rose of Tralee show.

Here's a look at two brand-new items that are available now:

Connemara Marble & Sterling Silver Claddagh Ring with Peridot (J295424)

Sterling Silver & Connemara Marble Disk Aran Stitch Pendant (J295376)

Just wait till you see the Connemara heart in this ring!! Can you see the new pendant with the woven design sterling silver? It is a really big piece of marble and the silver looks just like an Aran sweater.

I can’t wait to present these pieces during next week’s celebration! Hopefully you will love them as much as I do!

See you soon!

Stephen

She was lovely and fair, as the rose of the summer…

Tune in for QVC’s Rose of Tralee Celebration on Tuesday, September 2nd!

I love the words of the Rose of Tralee song, and it creates such an impression of the beauty of Ireland.

On Sunday I will travel to the USA, and I am looking forward to meeting my old friends and celebrating the Rose of Tralee on Tuesday.

The Rose of Tralee festival is an international competition which is celebrated among Irish communities all over the world. The festival, held annually in the town of Tralee in County Kerry, takes its inspiration from a nineteenth-century ballad of the same name about a woman called Mary, who because of her beauty was called The Rose of Tralee.

This year's winner is Maria Walsh (no relation to me, sadly), and, in fact, hails from Philadelphia. Congratulations, Maria!!

We have two new Connemara items to bring to you: the Connemara Marble & Sterling Silver Claddagh Ring with Peridot (J295424) and Sterling Silver & Connemara Marble Disk Aran Stitch Pendant (J295376).

And, you will get another chance to see my book (H202073) on Connemara marble, Ireland's national gem!

See you soon! Until then, you can practice singing the Rose of Tralee song…below are the words!!

-Stephen Walsh, Connemara Marble

The pale moon was rising above the green mountain,

The sun was declining beneath the blue sea;

When I strayed with my love to the pure crystal fountain,

That stands in the beautiful Vale of Tralee.

She was lovely and fair as the rose of the summer,

Yet 'twas not her beauty alone that won me;

Oh no, 'twas the truth in her eyes ever dawning,

That made me love Mary, the Rose of Tralee.

Hey friends!

First off, a warning: If, for some reason, you do not  like the game of baseball, Do Not plan a vacation to Cooperstown, New York. On the other hand, if you happen to love 'America's pastime', or have a child or grandchild who loves it,  then by all means put Abner Doubleday's birthplace, Cooperstown, on your list of 'must see' destinations. It's a quaint little town, filled with nice shops and wonderful places to visit, including yes, the famous Baseball Hall of Fame. It eats, drinks, and sleeps baseball. It's a destination  our family will never forget. And if you decide to go... bring a good camera. :)

We first visited Cooperstown three years ago when our oldest son Nick, then 12, played at Cooperstown Dreams park, in a Tourney with 103 other Teams from across the country. Nick's third time at bat (with two outs, and a 3-2 count no less),  he hit a grand slam homerun over the center field fence! As he rounded the bases, I looked over at my wife Amy and Nick's Grandma Konnie, and saw them cheering. I also realized something  that made me very happy indeed: I snapped the camera just as he was about to swing. In other words... I got the shot! Nick will have that photo to look back on for years to come.

This year, it was  our son Josh's turn. He and the Chester County Bobcats were coming to play ball!  And if a magical moment like that was ever to happen again, I didn't want to let the kid down. Amy and Grandma Konnie were joined this time by Amy's dad, 'Grandpa Jim'. And this year, I stepped up my Cameramen duties. I had a chance to try out the all new Samsung Galaxy 2 16 Mega Pixel Camera, which is a Today's Special value on 8/31/14!. It shoots stunning high resolution video, and a dynamic zoom, and can also be used as a high resolution Digital 'Still Camera' as well.

Josh pitched the first game, and from frame One of using the Samsung, I knew this camera was a "homerun". It was lightweight,  easy to use, and the Huge display screen on the back of the camera made it so easy to follow the action.

And speaking of action. In the third game of the tourney, Josh stepped up to the plate. Apparently lightning can indeed strike twice, because with two strikes, our youngest kid hit a bomb over the center field fence. Homerun. And thanks to the Samsung Camera, I got the shot just as the bat made contact with the ball.

From  warm family pics, to catching a great moment when Nick put his hand on Josh's shoulder after the game to congratulate him, our little trip to Cooperstown was... Picture. Perfect.
