The beauty world is buzzing…the word is out…the innovation is here. Are you ready? Because your skin IS.In January, we launched what may be our biggest complexion superstar to date. Women are going crazy over this brand new skin-saver that is in its own new category of makeup. Introducing Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream SPF 30 (Can't find your shade? Click here). A multi-tasking genius that solves where tinted moisturizers, BBs and CCs fall short. Hydration, radiant great-looking coverage, and SPF 30. A trifecta of goodness!

So, why all the buzz? Well, this is unlike anything out there. We talked to women, women who use traditional tinted moisturizers and alphabet creams (the BBs and the CCs). We noticed a common theme while talking to them, something was missing…the skincare benefits they wanted were missing. This was our moment, as the complexion experts, to create something new. Give women and their skin the skincare benefits and the results they deserve. And so, we took a whole new approach while developing this superstar. The invention was starting with a super hydrating skincare product and reverse engineering it into a complexion product.

The result is a brand new complexion hybrid that truly hydrates the skin, while giving skin-perfecting coverage. The gel cream consistency is so lightweight, it smoothes onto the skin effortlessly and gives just the perfect amount of coverage. It’s “freckle-friendly”. The real you shines through, your gorgeous skin is the star. The sheer to medium coverage is absolutely gorgeous. Your skin GLOWs, it feels soft and smooth, the radiant color evens out the skin giving you a perfected natural finish. I’m telling you, your skin will smile the moment this skin quenching gel cream touches your face. And you won’t believe how lightweight it looks and feels. SPF 30? Yes. No problem. And not at all sticky or thick. It comes in 10 skin-loving shades. Extremely forgiving and versatile. Take a look at our helpful shade matching guide.

And…I have to tell you about our brand-new genius brush. Welcome the Smoothing Face Brush into your world. This synthetic, dual fiber brush provides an air-brushed effect and is the perfect tool for applying Complexion Rescue (it’s also quite amazing at applying any of our foundations!). The longer wispy bristles diffuse and airbrush. The tightly packed shorter bristles apply the product evenly across your complexion.

Complexion Rescue is going to blow you away.  Read the reviews, talk to other women, and try it for yourself. This is the skin savior we've all been waiting for.  Join me in welcoming this superstar into our lives. Believe us when we say…

My Tip Tuesday is a family or fundraiser fun craft!  I enjoy helping my friends at Nikki's dance school so thought I would share a craft from our spring fundraiser. This is my version of a lollipop flower.

Lollipop Flowers

Supplies:

  • Mini cupcake papers in multiple colors
  • Mini cubes for deserts
  • Round lollipops like tootsie pops
  • Clear tape
  • Pipe cleaners or ribbons
  • Sticky tack
  • Stones or conversation hearts
  • Heart cutouts

Directions:

  • Separate cupcake papers to create the look of a flower.
  • Fold liners in half and half again... Snip small cut off of bottom of liner to insert lollipop.
  • Insert lollipop through each liner and scrunch it closely to lollipop.
  • Tape the liners to the stick.
  • Snip bottom of lollipop stick to make it shorter and better balanced.
  • Place sticky tack in bottom of cube and secure lollipop to bottom.
  • Add heart cutouts to each side of the cube.
  • Fill cube with little colored stones or conversation hearts.

A Much Needed Winter Vacation

$

It’s vacation season!!!!! Okay, maybe not for most Americans, but for a California family making a home on the east coast, this is the ideal time for a trip…or two…or three.

Last year, aka what the weather people called the worst winter in 80 years in Philadelphia, we didn’t head to warmer weather once. Bad idea. We all got a little cabin fever, so this year we planned ahead.  We just got back from a fun 6 days in Florida with my fabulous in-laws in sunny Florida.

Even though a few of the days didn’t break 70 degrees, the sun was out and my girls were in the pool and on the beach loving the heat. It’s all relative; while Floridians were in sweaters we were in bathing suits! I guess we are developing that thicker East Coast blood.

It was such a needed break, we haven’t been on vacation since the summer, so we were all itching for a few days away, and we’re so grateful to have a place to go where the family welcomes us with opens arms and spoils us a bit. With an added bonus of getting to see our great grandma

Many of you commented on my Facebook page on my post about having a teary day at the office before I left. You are all so kind. I know we all have those days, especially us women. Sometimes you just need a good cry, and I’m a big believer that it’s healthy. If you read my blog from last spring, you likely figured out we went through pretty painful loss while we were on spring break. I think a lot of those emotions were coming up, as I got ready to get on a plane again. Plus, women who have lost like that know that you never fully get over it, it may get easier but the pain never leaves. So I was having an emotional day, and I thank you all for your outpouring of kindness, love and support. I love that my Facebook page has really become a place where you share with me what our God is telling you. The verses, the reminders, all of it help me tremendously when I am having a rough day and I am so blessed by you.

I’m not going to say that vacation totally helped me feel better. Physically, yes. I was warm and that is worth its weight in sunshine to me. But, when I’m on vacation I tend to have more time to think than I do when I’m working and being a full time mom at home.  So I can get even a bit sadder on vacation. It’s okay, it helps to journal and work though my feelings and pray, pray, pray. So, I did come home feeling better than when I left, even though we were all sad to come home to the cold!

I’m off again, this time to southern California. I haven’t seen my step-dad and brother and that side of the family in over a year and it’s long overdue. My step-dad bought the girls and me tickets home for Christmas so we are going now. Last check So Cal was going to be 80 this weekend. Count me in! The girls will get some more pool and beach time and I can help my mom some, and I’m bringing her back with me for a long visit in Pennsylvania.

By the time we’re back, Spring Break will be right around the corner! This year we are truly planning much better than last.  Attempting to get some place warm three times this winter! We do love living in our town in Pennsylvania and we are here for the long haul, but you never quite take the Southern California out of the girls, and I think we will always long for beach and sun no matter how long we live as East Coasters.

Happy winter, stay safe out there my friends, and follow me on Facebook to see pics like these more often.

Xoxox,

Kerstin

31 Days of Organization - The Final Four!

Hi, everyone!

Happy February! I’m not a big fan of Pennsylvania’s famous groundhog right about now. Six more weeks of winter does NOT sound fun. But, we are marching right along. And believe it or not, we’ve finished our 31 Days of Organization initiative on You’re Home with Jill. If you already saw the last four tips in my collection or Facebook…act surprised. If not, here are a few final ideas.

Weekday mornings are nuts. It’s not easy to get everyone up, dressed, fed, and out the door on time. So here’s a thought: what if you already have the “getting dressed” part already figured out?

Plan Outfits Ahead of Time

Whether for you and/or the kids, having one less morning-of decision to make gives you five more minutes to wish your son or daughter good luck on a test. Or, five more minutes to have coffee with your husband.

What’s in our closet? The main piece is a Closet Organizer by Lori Greiner and some of the accessories include a Denim & Co. sweatshirt and leggings.

This might be an obvious one, but do you use your shallow drawers for undergarments, socks, and smaller items? Is your dresser organized at all?

Dresser Before...

Here's an interesting idea. If you're not overly enthusiastic about folding...you can use small PVC pipe "rings" to keep your socks together or undies sorted. The larger the pipe, the more you can fit in each ring...think sports bras, tights, or bathing suits.

Dresser After...

What does your desk drawer and dresser drawer have in common? You can file the contents and save space.

File Shirts!

If you stand your shirts up like files, you can get more in your drawer. If you drawer isn’t deep enough try folding the shirt into thirds or fourths and then stacking them. In other words, play with your folding methods to see what works best. You might even use shoe boxes to compartmentalize your stacks.

We saved one of my very favorite organization tips for last. You really can clean out your closet—even though it seems impossible. How? Ask yourself these questions.

Wardrobe Rules

If you answered no to any of those questions, DONATE the garment in question. So many organizations--and people--are in need. Pick one organization and donate anything that doesn’t fit this bill. It will be the perfect size for someone. Yes, they'll love it. Yes, they'll wear it again....and again.

Donate Clothes

I hope you found these tips helpful! Find all 31 here in my blogs, in my collection, or on Facebook.

If You Can't Tone It -- Reverse Contour It

Back in December I spent some time in New York City shooting a couple of fun things for Inspired Style. Since we wouldn’t have access to the “full salon” treatment we have here at Studio Park, we decided to call up some of our favorite New York beauty friends. One of those special ladies happened to be Emmy Award winning makeup artist, Eve Pearl.

While I was bummed she didn’t bring her Emmy for me to touch lol, she did bring her a whole lot of fabulous make up!

Not only is Eve a highly respected individual in the beauty industry, she’s also a really great gal. We had such a great time chatting and laughing throughout my make over session. All in all it was a great morning and I have to give huge props to Eve Pearl for doing an amazing job and for teaching me some really cool things!

Speaking of the really cool things Eve showed me (did you really think I would keep them a secret!?!)… You have to know about her Reverse Contour Method. I know, I know that sounds really intense but trust me when I tell you it is quick, easy, and will have you wondering where Eve Pearl has been all your life, lol!!! This is how Eve explains her contouring method:

Your face is not a canvas--a flat, blank surface. It has peaks, valleys, discoloration, and skin issues. The end goal should not be to match your face with similar shades, it should be to balance out your face's needs and have it match the rest of your body. The reverse contour method and HD Dual Foundation provide simple beauty steps to a flawless-looking complexion.

To reverse contour you are going to need the HD Dual Foundation. Check out the image below for color by number directions! It’s really that simple!

  1. Apply side 1, the lighter side of the foundation on your eyelids and below your cheeks (above the jawline). Use one side of the foundation brush.
  2. Apply side 2, the darker side of the foundation on your cheeks, chin, nose, forehead and/or anywhere you have redness, discoloration and need extra coverage. Use the other side of the foundation brush.
  3. Use a damp non-latex sponge to blend the foundation into your skin to achieve a smooth, flawless finish!

The entire Eve Pearl collection is scheduled to launch on Feb. 6th at QVC! So very excited for Eve, and I think you will really love her stuff!

Unmistakably Judith: February Blog

Hello everyone. I am very happy to introduce you to my new feature, Unmistakably Judith. During the first week of every month, I’ll be bringing back some of our most classic pieces from the archive. In the early days, we used the phrase “Unmistakably Judith” in my advertising taglines, so I thought it would be the perfect name for a series dedicated to items that we’re bringing back from the past.

We love these classics so much that we wanted to give you another chance to add them to your collection. And, if you haven’t started your collection yet, these staples are the perfect way to get you going.

Pieces that are UnmistakablyJudith have signature details, everyday elegance and some kind of a modern twist. Simply put, they will never go out of style – which is exactly why we’re bringing them back.

The first piece I'm bringing back from the archive is one of my all time favorites - a piece I call "the cuff." If you don’t have a cuff in your collection yet, this is the perfect one to start with. It has just the right weight and width and it will hug your wrist perfectly.

Some of my greatest inspiration comes from nature. When I created this piece, I was inspired by the stunning, rippling textures of sea coral. I think the delicate crests and ripples are beautiful and I wanted those details to be reflected in this bracelet.

This cuff would look fantastic worn with some of your other favorite sterling pieces. This is a great stacking bracelet and it pairs well with a tennis bracelet, a rolling bracelet or any other cuff from my collection. I would pair the cuff in its silver and clad versions together.

I would love to hear about the different ways that you would wear it and I can’t wait to show you all of the Unmistakably Judith pieces that we have coming up. See you soon!

XO, Judith

Pressure Cooker Chicken Chili

This Saturday is our Church’s Annual Chili Cook Off!!  This is the first year in many years that I won’t be able to attend. {#emotions_dlg.scared}  I made this chili recipe on Sunday for the “Big Game”.  It was delish.  It is a nice change of pace from my traditional beef & red bean recipe.  This is the first time I used my pressure cooker to make chili.  I liked it but…when I make chili on the stove I taste it as I go and add a pinch of this and a sprinkle of that etc…you can’t do that with a pressure cooker.  Let me know what you think.  Enjoy!

Pressure Cooker Chicken Chili

Ingredients:

3 chicken breasts

2 cans white beans

3 cups chicken stock

¼ cup cream

1 (15 oz) can diced tomato

1 onion, chopped

1 cup frozen corn

2 cups chopped spinach or kale

3 TB chili powder (add more if you want it spicy)

1 TB dried Cilantro

2 cloves garlic, chopped

Salt & pepper to taste

2 TB olive oil

Sour cream & shredded cheese for garnish

Directions:

Season chicken with salt & pepper.  Set pressure cooker to the brown/sauté setting.  Sauté onions & garlic in olive oil for a few minutes until softened.  Add all of the ingredients except for the beans. Set pressure cooker to cook for 20 minutes.  After the pressure has come down, remove chicken, shred with two forks, return to pressure cooker, stir in beans and let stand for 10 minutes.  Serve over rice, top with sour cream & shredded cheese.

Hi, everyone!

I was in New York City yesterday...and this was my view from the train heading there:

Sunrise on Train

I had to do a little product development for You’re Home with Jilland I was also looking for some new things at the gift show.

Jill and David Dangle

And look who else I saw!? What fun it was to hang out with David Dangle QVC. David, his incredible team, and I brainstormed some exciting and fabulous ways to incorporate Joan's love of home into some special items for YHJ. I felt so honored and inspired yesterday!

It’s been a few weeks since we had a You’re Home with Jill but I’m thrilled to tell you I’ll see you this Sunday at 6pm ET when QVC is having its Spring Fever™ Garden Special. It’s never too early to begin designing your dream garden…and I think most of us could use a break from winter.

Now, onto an adorable Valentine’s Day idea...

Cupid's Box of Cookies

I'm calling this "Cupid’s Box of Cookies!" Cute, right?? These are perfect for your kids and their friends, your co-workers, or all the special people in your life. I’ll share the cookie recipe with you in a minute. First, here’s a template and tools you’ll need to make the DIY Paper Plate "box."Box Template

 You’ll Need:

  • White paper plates (1 plate per box)
  • Scissors
  • Paper edger scissors (optional)
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Washi tape
  • Paper clips

To Assemble:

  1. Use the paper edger scissors (or regular scissors) to trim about 1/4″ off of the circumference of the plate making a cute decorative edge.
  2. Flip the plate over so the front side is facing down. Use the pencil and ruler to trace the 9-section grid onto the plate. (Try your best to position the center square right in the center of the plate.)
  3. Use the regular scissors to cut a slit along every other vertical line. Stop cutting where the vertical line intersects with the center square.
  4. Fold one side at a time up to form the “box.”
  5. Use a paper clip to hold each side together as you assemble the box.
  6. Wrap washi tape around the box and then remove the paper clips.

Now, as for those yummy cookies inside, they’re my Sour Cream Sugar Cookies. I just used heart-shaped cookie cutters to make them festive for Valentine’s Day.

Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • Powdered sugar, for rolling dough
  • Frosting and sprinkles

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cream the sugar and shortening together. Add the sour cream, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well.
  3. Add the dry ingredients and mix well (the dough should not be sticky).
  4. Roll out the cookie dough on a clean surface, sprinkled with powdered sugar, to about 1/4'' thickness. Cut the dough into your desired shapes.
  5. Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet until the cookies are puffy and light brown on the bottom, about 10 minutes. Let them cool completely and then decorate with frosting and sprinkles.

I’ll see you on Sunday at 6pm ET. Why not make a few “boxes” in advance this weekend so you can fill them and go next week. If you decide to make the cookies in advance, make extra. You'll never have enough for your boxes!

2.77 ct Andesine. Only one of its kind. A museum quality gem. Wanted you to see it! Untreated...copper inclusions...a beauty!

Peyton Kelley doin' his thing :)

Look at the way they display the opal rough....with water. This is because opal could dry out under the constant light.

Look what one of our gem dealers pulled out from under the table for Peyton....sleeping beauty turq rough! Wow!! This has been in storage for 30 years! America's treasure!

Trying to get enough of these beautiful boulder opal doublets to bring to you!

I found the emerald I am going to buy!! It's a 5.60 ct Zambian - only $38,000! (I wonder if they'll give me 20,000 months of EZpay? Never hurts to ask!)

How about this opal?!?!

A Love Letter To Men and Women Alike... What Say’s I Love You More Than Flowers And Food?!

$

Dear Men,

Forget about long stemmed roses on Valentine’s Day!  This may be a curious statement coming from me, a flower store owner, but I mean it.   Around this time of year, countless men come in and say, “I have to have a dozen red roses delivered on the 14th.”  And I say, “Have you thought about a bouquet of her favorite flowers and maybe dinner?”  They look at me like I’m nuts.  Am I?

I would love for my husband (are you taking notes Joe?!)  to bring home a small bouquet of my favorite flowers and some Chinese food, maybe even the brick oven pizza I like.  Nothing says “I love you” like food and flowers in my book…and speaking about the “meaning” of flowers, here are a few of my favorites:  Pink Orchid “True Affection”, Sweet Pea “Bliss”, Calla Lilly “Magnificence and Charm”, Peony “Good Fortune and Happy Marriage”, Ranunculus “I Am Dazzled By Your Charms”  Who wouldn't want an armful of that?

To my fellow gals, anything looks and tastes better in a heart shape!  I love these heart shaped pans made from silicon.   In a flash, I can make flavored butters (and who doesn't like butter?!) simply by blending a jelly or jam with room temperature butter, fill the pans and then set in the refrigerator.  You can make any type of sweet butter to top pancakes, waffles, biscuits…and you can make savory butters too (Parmesan, chive, garlic) to accompany meats, mashed potatoes, vegetables…

It doesn't have to be Valentine’s Day to give someone you love flowers and something made especially for them – I say make each and every day a special one!

Happy Valentine's Day from the Roe Family

Valentine’s Day holds a special place in my heart for obvious reasons, but did you know Mark and I actually met on Valentine’s Day? Yes indeed, and we were married just a little over one year later.  And I can honestly say, I am just as much in love with him today, if not more, than I was more than three decades ago. Now, I’m not saying it is perfect, no marriage is, and it’s not always that crazy turn-your-stomach-upside-down kind of love after all of these years. However, it is comfortable like your favorite blankie kind of love! He is my best friend, my confidant, my strength and protector, the one I turn to and lean on when things don’t go so well, and the one I turn to first to share in good news. I cannot imagine a life without him and it seems he’s always been a part of my life. I thank God for Mark and my children every day!

Celebrating the holiday of love has certainly changed for us throughout the years, as I’m certain it has for most couples with children. When we were first married, Mark and I always went out for a romantic dinner, just the two of us. We would hold hands, share dessert and talk about our hopes and dreams both as a couple and as individuals. It was a magical time of wonderment and being young and in love. We always knew we would be together forever and looked forward to things to come.

As we started to build a family, we became more conscious of our roles as parents and our Valentine’s Day celebrations turned from “couple’s love” to “family love”. We always included the children somehow depending on their ages and what they liked … whether it was a little box of chocolate at their spot at the dinner table, a stuffed animal or a card, we always let them know how much they were loved.  And our romantic dinners out, turned to family dinners in with our children, our biggest blessings. It wasn’t about what we ate so much anymore, but who was around our table. From highchairs, to boosters to grown adult children, we continue to be blessed as a couple, as parents and as servants of our Lord.

Paragraph about Eric and Alice .... addition to family .... VD engaged, soon to be married.....

So whoever you celebrate this Valentine’s Day with and whatever you do, we wish you lots of love and peace and sure, even a dessert or two! ; )

Counting our blessings!

Mary Beth (and family)

The Gemstone Diaries - Hot From Tucson Day 2!

My second and final day at the Tucson Gem Show was just as fun as day 1! I wanted to give you the chance to see all the beautiful gems!

We started the day at GJX for meetings with vendors. Peyton and Jen were wheelin' and dealin' to bring you fresh from the fair pieces. It's unbelievable what our team goes through to get gems...fascinating!!

These are fine fire opals!!

Brazilian paraiba tourmaline. Exquisite color! We also saw purple paraiba! (I'm in heaven...)

Look at these huge 20ct green apatites! A normal size for these are 4 cts and smaller!

This is how fire opal starts before it is faceted. Notice the range of colors? This is where our Quality Assurance Department comes in. We can only offer you small color range. Can you imagine how few pieces in the same color range and size we could get from this parcel? Mind boggling!!

Earl and I were on air together. He's a true miner! He's showing us Malawi AAA sapphire. It has beautiful undertones of green.

This is Chinese turquoise rough. The supplier has to stockpile enough for us to present to you. Wonder how long that will take?

Kingman Mine (AZ mine) turquoise rough. This will only yield a few stones.

Later in the day, we headed into JOGS...it's a totally different vibe than other shows! Lots of finished jewelry and tons of opaque stones.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about! Swarovski studded Luchese cowboy boots!

Buckets of rough gems!

Check out this huge Quartz. They polished the outside. And inside....amethyst!

Some of the finished jewelry. Look at the size of this squash blossom!

....and cross!

.....and concha belt!

Iz wanted me to get her a blue opaque stone...a lapis heart it was!

I love that even art is carved from big pieces of rough. In this case, turquoise.

Strands of pearls and shades of lapis!

Crazy that the vendors don't have to have GIA certification. You never know what's genuine material. That's why you have to have relationships with trusted vendors and then double check the stones by our Quality Assurance Department and certify them with the GIA!

Oops...I bought a jacket instead of a gem. Sweet Sheron from CO helped me hold it for a selfie! Thanks, Sheron!!

Our final stop of the day....Kingman Turquoise and Marty Colbaugh. Marty was the first gem miner I'd ever met 4 years ago when I was here. He took a ton of time with me to explain the turquoise market. So good to see him again!

We were all way too tired to walk another step....taking the shuttle!

I loved being at the Tucson Gem Show with Peyton and Jen (our buyer). We found some beautiful gems for you! But now it's time to go back home to see my girl and hubby!!

I'll "see" you soon!!

-Nancy

Memories of Joan with David Dangle

Hi there,

This month I’m turning my blog entry over to QVC Senior Copywriter Annie. As a senior copywriter, Annie both writes and edits product descriptions for our website.

Troy

QVCEditor

Hi, all!

Talking with David Dangle, CEO of Joan Rivers Worldwide, was much like talking with Joan. He’s funny, very sweet, and oh-so down-to-earth. And any nervousness I might have felt upon entering the QVC green room quickly faded as he let out a friendly greeting. When I asked him if Joan was as hilarious behind closed doors as she was in front of the cameras, David told me, “One of the things we enjoyed about each other is that we made the other laugh a lot. I mean, a lot. She was the funniest woman who ever lived. You often hear comedians aren’t that funny off stage, but I’ve never laughed so hard in my life—in this room! Laughter is what drove her.”

When talking about the Joan Rivers Classics Collection, I mentioned that so many brands focus on trends—but Joan’s brand seemed to always focus on timeless pieces. David commented, “I would go back to the name of the brand—the Joan Rivers Classics Collection. That name was picked very carefully. Joan’s style was never outrageous. It was never the crazy latest, like here comes the pirate shirt. It was always a taste level of timelessness. The designers who influenced her were Chanel, St. Laurent, Armani—designers whose looks never really change. They evolve, as all design does, but they’re rooted in classic silhouettes and clothes and jewelry that will look great year after year. We’re not a trend-driven brand. We’re a trend-influenced brand. Everyone wants to look current, but you want to look appropriate. You want to look like you’re wearing the latest, but it doesn’t wear you. And you can do this by taking what the designers are going nuts with and making it appropriate for you.”

This reminded me so much of my first interview with Joan and an answer she gave when I asked her how women can stay off the worst-dressed lists. She said, “Be simple and don’t follow the ‘fad.’ And be willing to try a new idea, but try it in an adult way. That’s what our line is about.” It became very evident to me why David and Joan were such good business partners—and friends.

I asked him if there was anything else he would like to share with the QVC customer. Smiling, he said, “The outpouring is extraordinary. And people care about me, which is really touching. In the scheme of things, I could see that not being something people would think about. I mean, Joan’s a big deal, but people are so nice that they care about me, too! And that’s so humbling, to be honest with you. It’s really blown me away.”

Here at QVC, we miss Joan’s larger-than-life presence roaming our halls. But we have many memories to hold onto. My memories come from our interviews, so I would like to share a few of my favorite quotes she gave me:

“One word to describe my clothing line? Wearable chic. But it has to be one word, so wearablechic. Make it like a German word.”

“What takes 10 years off your life, besides a plastic surgeon? Velvet. I mean, the Elephant Man’s sister would look good in velvet.”

“My grandson, Cooper, is great. He’s a good student and he’s got a sense of humor. Can you imagine if we had a sourpuss in the family? If you had to keep saying, ‘No, that’s a joke’? We don’t have to do that with Cooper, thank God!”

“My birthday wish is that next year is as good to my family as this year has been. It’s been a good year for all of us and I love my daughter, Melissa, because she knows it. God bless her, she knows when things are good and she appreciates them.”

In one of my recent blogs, Can We Talk? Remembering Joan Rivers, I asked you to share your memories of Joan. Some of you posted them to the blog, and some emailed them to me, which I’d like to share:

“I know that Joan is making everyone in heaven laugh every minute of every day. My funniest memories are of Joan and [former Program Host] Kathy Levine having ‘pajama parties.’ And they were on TV with their glasses of wine while they wore PJs!” –Doris

“I remember many years ago when Joan gave Kathy [Levin] a lamb for her birthday—a real lamb. Talk about a shock. Very funny. We all miss her funny presentations and her air kiss with Lisa [Robertson]. R.I.P., Joan.”  –Jeanne

“It has been like losing my own dear friend. We have grown old together. She supported me when my own mother died, and whenever I became sad she seemed to be there. She is not gone; she will be in our hearts forever. Love and hugs.” –Jan

“I remember when Joan used to bring her dog Spike with her on the set. Well, one time when Spike was getting older he decided to leave his ‘mark’ on the set and I thought Joan was going to lose it. I think she was on with Kathy Levine when Spike did his business. Those two used to do some late night shows when Joan would have a TSV® and be in bed together. I would laugh so hard. I sure miss those shows. Anytime I felt down or didn’t feel well and Joan would be on QVC, I would feel better just by listening to her funny stories or comments. I miss her so much, it’s like I’ve lost a relative or my best friend. I am so glad David Dangle is continuing her line of products and that he has shared some memories of her with us.” –Vickie

Thanks to all of you who posted and emailed me your thoughts about Joan.

Best wishes,

Although it's tough to balance work hours, family time, and personal time, my favorite hobby happens to benefit the whole family -- Cooking!

I've always had a passion for cooking whether it's trying out new recipes or tweaking old ones to perfection. I decided to share this passion of mine with you every week by posting a recipe!

So what's on the menu as I dish up my first ever recipe for you? How does Brown Buttered-Seared Scallops with Sunchokes and Root Vegetable Puree sound? Here's how you make it!

Ingredients

Serves 2

12 ounces scallops (bay or sea, I like the big ones for this recipe)

8 oz celery root

4 oz turnips

6 oz sunchokes (Jerusalem artichokes)

1 sprig sage

2 sprigs fresh thyme

1 cup chicken stock

4 TB butter (or ghee if you eat non-dairy like me)

1/4 c milk (I use coconut milk)

 Olive Oil

Kosher Salt

Black Pepper

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 F

Rinse Scallops and pat dry (make sure you get them real dry for the best sear) Peel celery root and turnip and cut into 1-inch pieces.  Pick sage leaves, discard stems Scrub and rinse sunchokes, if large, cut into 1-inch pieces

On a baking sheet toss sunchokes with 1TB olive oil, salt and pepper Arrange cut-side down in a single layer and roast until golden and tender, about 18 min

While sunchokes roast, place celery root and turnips in a medium pot, add chicken stock and salt and then cover with cold water  Bring to boil until vegetable are tender.. about 12 minutes.  Drain and transfer to bowl

While veggies cooke, Heat all but one tsp of ghee or butter in large pan (cast iron skillet is best) over medium-high heat.  When butter is foamy add scallops and cook without moving until browned on bottom about 4 minutes.  Flip and cook until opaque, another 2-3 minutes.

Remove scallops and set aside... reserving butter in pan.

Add 1/2 of milk and remaining butter to brown with veggies.  Use your Vitamix, blender or a potato masher to puree root veggies until smooth.

Taste and add salt and pepper as needed.  Use remaining milk if you need to make a thinner consistency to the puree.

Add Thyme sprigs and sage to pan with butter over medium heat.  Cook until butter is deep golden crown and smells nutty - about 3 minutes.

Season with salt.  Divide root vegetable puree evenly between 2 plates.

Top with Scallops and scatter around sunchokes.  Spoon over brown butter and serve.
