Maria McCool Shares Her Tips to Get My "Do!"

$

Hello my friends!

Well, it’s been almost a year since I first got my new, shorter “do” and I’ve been so flattered to see how many of you have loved it! I get so many questions about how to explain the cut to your stylist so that you can get the same one, so I decided to enlist the help of my friend and AMAZING stylist, Maria McCool of Calista Tools!! I did a mini “interview” with her to share all of the details about how to get the cut. I hope it’s helpful for you!! And thank you for all of the support and sweet comments you’ve shared with me about my hair! AND, if you do take this to your stylist, PLEASE share pictures with me on my Facebook page!! :)

Carolyn: If someone were to ask for my haircut what would they tell their stylist? Is there a name of the cut?

Maria:Well,I call it the “Carolyn!” It’s a shorter style with a very, very long top, so it doesn’t give it that traditional short look. The most important thing to tell your stylist to get a similar cut is that the top layers are actually the longest ones! By leaving the length longer on top, it doesn’t give a short “crop” cut. Normally when people layer hair, the top is the shortest part, but in this cut the layers on top should be 3 times the length of the layers anywhere else in the cut. For example, if the layers in the back of your hair are 1 inch, then the layers on top should be 3 inches! That will TOTALLY change the look of your cut!

For the Color, we do a multi-color. I use foils with lightener and 10 volume peroxide (that’s on the very low end) to keep your hair shiny and soft. Most people use really high volume, which can be damaging. In between, I use hair color to lighten the base color two shades lighter than your natural color. So the end result is a very light honey-brown base with bright golden-blonde highlights.

Carolyn: Is there a particular type of person this style would look best on?

Maria: Well, this style works well for you because you have very thick and straight hair. But I have to say, you don’t need to shy away from this cut if you have fine or thin hair. It will work for you too because they layers will give you extra volume.

I would tell someone, if you have really thick hair you can ask your stylist to texturize the top of your hair with a razor or shears. I do that a little bit on you, Carolyn.

Carolyn: What products do you use on when you do my hair?

Maria: I shampoo with Amplify and Refine Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner. I spray on Embellish EXPAND Thickening Styling Cream while wet. And if I want a lot of “voom voom” I put in the Root Lift Volumizing Mousse Sprayjust at the roots, also while wet. Then I blow dry and perfect with the 1-inch Perfecter. Then to finish, I use the Embellish Volume Finishing Spray.

Carolyn: Can you give any at-home styling tips specific to this hairstyle?

One of the biggest things you can do to make this style pop is to over direct when using the Perfecter, which means your pulling away from the roots. Also, if you always style your hair to left, pull it to the right and then flip it over, it will give you more volume. Styling the hair in the opposite direction from where you usually have it lay will always give more lift!

Carolyn: Any advice for taking care of color treated hair?

You should always use professional-quality shampoo and conditioner that doesn’t strip your color. You also have to be careful with how much styling heat you use on color-treated hair; another reason why the Perfecter is great. The fusion technology uses non-metal heat, so there’s no singing, burning or depleting your hair’s natural oil like curling and flat irons can do.

As far as maintenance for your color and cut, we re-do it every 6 weeks to keep it looking fresh!

Carolyn: Any tips for someone who is thinking about a big change for their hair?

I do have an important tip about choosing a stylist: the absolute best thing you can do is when you’re out and about and you see a woman whose haircut you love, don’t be shy!! Stop and ask them where they go. Do this every time you see a cut or color you like so you can find out who is out there giving great cuts! So many women have a lot of anxiety over “breaking up” with their hairdresser (that’s really what it feels like isn’t it?!) But you have to remember that it’s about you, and making yourself happy. If you decide you want to try a new stylist but aren’t sure how to make the move without offending your current stylist, try this: pick up a nice card and say, “I’ve decided to go in a different direction with my hair and got a recommendation from a great friend. I’ve always enjoyed working with you and thank you for everything!” It’s that simple.

A HUGE thank you to Maria McCool, a true hair genius!!! Be sure to check out Calista Tools on Facebook to get lots of fun tips too! Happy hair-cutting my friends!

XO,

Carolyn

Hattitude!

I belong to an organization of women who volunteer their time and talents for charitable efforts. Each year we hold an annual luncheon to raise scholarship funds for deserving college-bound students.

The event is called “Hattitude for Education”. It’s an afternoon of fun culminating with an exciting auction of incredible hats. As the “auctioneer”, I like to wear a really big colorful hat along the lines of the Kentucky Derby.

This year’s “Hattitude” was great fun, and we raised a lot of money for deserving kids. I say, “Hat’s Off To That!”. :-)

I hope you enjoy the photos below. You might even see a few familiar faces.

My new hat for the occasion

Getting the banquet room ready for the luncheon

Models Michelle and Alisha looking great in their hats

Some of the ladies from our organization with bid paddles in hand

Nancy, Jayne and Albany were there to support me.

Our club members do a great job modeling the hats during bidding.

Audience members have to raise their paddles to bid on the hat they want.

Albany made the winning bid for her hat.

Jayne Brown’s daughters and sister also joined in the fun!

I really appreciated how many of my QVC friends came out to support me and a worthy cause. I love them all!

Be sure to join me tomorrow morning for three hours of AM Style beginning at 7am.

How to Make a Whimsical Easter Centerpiece

Hi, everyone!

I love making my own centerpieces for the holidays, but I don't like biting off more than I can chew. I love quick, easy, fun centerpieces that make a big impact. And today, I’m going to show you how to make something charming for your Easter table.

If you’re looking for that apothecary jar, it’s the 12” jar with lid by Valerie on QVC.com. You can also get the Bethlehem Lights battery-operated strands and glittery Luminara candle I used in the centerpiece on QVC.com, too.

I’ll blog with you again on Tuesday…I hope you have a terrific weekend.

From my home to yours,
—Jill

P.S. Wondering how to make those adorable bunny napkins you see on the table? Check out my video from last week!

The Eggs-periment

It seems logical that if you can boil a pot of water, you can make hard-boiled eggs. But for me, hard boiling eggs is, well, hard. Sometimes my eggs look like a hen peeled them with her beak. Other times the yolk is raw. So I researched what makes a good egg.

Online chefs advised me to add a half teaspoon of salt; or, a teaspoon of vinegar to the pot of water to make the eggs easier to peel.

Vinegar, salt, and eggs

This eggs-periment was a wild chicken chase. My advice: don’t bother with the (insert eggs-pletive here) salt or vinegar. Just go with plain water.

Eggs cooked in vinegar, salt, and plain water

Then I played with cooking time while using the same cooking method:

Put eggs in a pot, cover eggs by one inch with cold water, place on burner over high heat until just boiling.

Remove pot from burner and put on lid. Then immerse eggs in ice water.

Eggs in ice

I cooked the eggs in 9, 12, 15, and 18-minute increments. The 18-minute cooking time yielded an opaque yolk. And look! It’s as glossy as Liberace’s ivory piano keys.

Egg on fancy stand

I eggs-pressed my elation by making an egg-ceptional deviled egg.

Deviled egg

The rest of the eggs are for my children moody teenagers who will be forced to dye eggs for the sake of family tradition. Then I’ll make egg salad that’s pastel since the dye seeped through again. After all, everyone loves egg salad for breakfast, lunch, and dinner this time of year.

Enjoy!

Hello, foodies..

I’m back in my old stomping ground! Yesterday, our ITKWD team member Wes and I flew to South Carolina and then drove to the QVC’s Florence Distribution Center where we met with employees. Then last night, we drove up to Raleigh for a book signing for our ITKWD fans. Here are a few pics from the trip!

 Book Signing - Raleigh, NC

Now today we’re headed to Rocky Mount, NC to meet with employees and sign a few more copies of my cookbook. I’m sitting in a café now so I could blog with you before heading over. It feels AWESOME to be back "home" again.

This Sunday is our last Spring and Easter Favorite recipe because April starts next week! Of course we saved the cutest recipe for last…Bunny Bum Cupcakes.

Bunny Bum Cupcakes

Bunny Bum Cupcakes
Makes 12 Cupcakes

This recipe is prepared with the Mrs. Fields Cool Bake All-in-One Baking Sheet (K39695).

Go to David's Recipe Item Page for the full list of items that David has used in his recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (15.25-oz) box white cake mix, baked into 12 cupcakes according to package directions
  • 1/2 (16-oz) jar chocolate frosting
  • 1/3 cup chocolate cookie crumbs
  • 1 (16-oz) bag white candy melts
  • Red gel food coloring
  • 12 plain donut holes
  • 12 mini marshmallows
  • 1-1/3 cups sweetened fine shredded coconut

Preparation:

  1. When the cupcakes are completely cool, spread a flat, even layer of chocolate frosting on top. Dip each cupcake into the chocolate cookie crumbs and completely cover the icing. Set aside. Line 2 baking cookie sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Place 1/3 of the white candy melts into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave, in 30- second intervals, until completely melted. Pour the mixture into a piping bag, fitted with a small plain tip (tip size #2), and pipe the candy onto a prepared cookie sheet, creating small bunny feet (1"L x 1/2"W). You'll need 24 feet total, 2 per cupcake. Let the feet cool completely.
  3. Place about 3–4 tablespoons of the melted candy back into the microwave-safe bowl and reheat until completely melted. Add the red food coloring, a little bit at a time, until it forms a pale pink color. Place the colored mixture into a different piping bag, fitted with a small plain tip (tip size #2), and pipe toes and pads on each bunny foot. Let them cool completely.
  4. Meanwhile, cut a small sliver off each donut hole, so they rest flat on top of each cupcake. Place the shredded coconut into a small bowl. Set aside.
  5. Microwave the remainder of the candy melts, in 30-second intervals, until completely melted. Dip each donut hole and mini marshmallow into the melted candy and then into the shredded coconut. Use your fingers to adhere the coconut and set them on the other prepared cookie sheet to cool completely.
  6. To assemble the cupcakes, re-melt the leftover candy (if necessary), and dip just a little of a coated mini marshmallow in it. Place it on the rounded part of the coated donut hole, lightly pressing it. Then, dip just a little of the flat part of the donut hole in the candy and place it on top the cupcake, lightly pressing it. Repeat.
  7. Use the remainder of the melted candy to attach the feet to the body of the bunny. Let the cupcakes set for a few minutes before serving.

A big shout out to our pastry chef and ITKWD member, Andrea, for perfecting this recipe. I think it’s one of the cutest Easter dishes we’ve ever made and you can really make these part of your Easter decorations, foodies. Food this cute should be appreciated and displayed for everyone to see. We tried to make the directions as easy-to-follow as possible. But you’ll still want to give yourself plenty of time to make these. You’ll need to let each piece set before assembling the pieces, so start this on Saturday and finish them Easter morning.

If you happen to have a few more extra minutes, maybe you’d like to give your Bunnies some company. Here are my Deviled Egg Chicks and Salted Caramel Chocolate Nests!

Deviled Egg Chicks

Salted Caramel Chocolate Nests

Foodies, I know this isn’t the only cute Easter recipe you’ve seen…what else has caught your eye on Pinterest, Instagram, or Facebook? Easter basket cakes? Bunny rolls? Chocolate-coated Peeps? Get out there and get inspired and tell me what you’d like to see next Easter. I’ll see you Sunday at Noon ET.

#FastBeauty Review: LumaRX

$

My friend Kaitlin raises her phone up to take a photo of me. She asks:

“Am I really taking a picture of you raising your arms to show your armpits??”

Me: “Yep! They gotta see this!”

No, I hadn’t lost my mind (at least not that day). It was right before I was presenting an item called the LumaRX and I was so blown away by how effective it was at hair reduction I had to prove it on Facebook with photographic proof. I even started my on-air presentation of it by showing everyone my raised arm and declaring: “I haven’t shaved in over a week!”

TMI? Maybe. But as a gal who believes in fast beauty (this is 2015, people! Who has time to wait?), I knew I’d found a winner.

I’ve been posting weekly 15-second videos every Tuesday on my social pages with the hashtag #FastBeautyto illustrate that quick solutions to beauty problems are often just minutes away with products you may already have on hand. This blog runs along that same theme…only here it’s about throwing out what you’ve got on hand in favor of something much easier! Up until recently the only solutions we had for hair reduction were razors (expensive over time/time consuming), waxing and tweezing (same, and OUCH), laser appointments ($$$), and the like. Home treatments abound now, but the Luma really astounded me for a few reasons:

-It’s FDA-cleared for PERMANENT hair reduction in unwanted body and facial hair. (Permanent hair reduction is defined as the long-term stable reduction in the number of hairs re-growing when measured at 6, 9, and 12 months after completion of a treatment regimen.)

-That treatment regimen? Just 3 treatments in just 1 month. That’s it!! And a treatment on the underarms, for example, takes about two minutes. Talk about fast beauty!

-It’s for both body and facial hair. Buh-bye, ‘stache!

-It’s much gentler than I expected…that’s because a longer pulse profile helps deliver heat more gently to the skin. LumaRx has a long, 110 ms pulse. And with the fast results, I’m actually looking forward to sleeveless tops, skirts, and not waxing my upper lip this summer (ha!). Yes, it’s for face too. Hooray!

One note: it IS an investment. But when I added up how much I’d been spending over time on other hair reduction remedies that weren’t as easy or effective, it made sense. If it’s in your budget and you’re on a time budget too like me, it’s definitely worth considering!

I’ll be posting more “Fast Beauty” reviews here, and you can find all of my 15-second-solution videos in my Fast Beauty Collection here. And of course, lots of bonuses on my Facebook and Instagram too! Join me there…and give me your quick beauty tips below!

Easter Celebration at Alberti's House

Easter has such a special place in my heart.  It has a religious meaning for me, and is also metaphorically a symbol of new life and new opportunities!  Bunnies, chicks, eggs, and blossoms are the ways we see new life in nature this time of year, and it just so happens that they bring smiles to the faces of children and adults!  So this year, when I decided to decorate my home for the Easter holiday, I was on a mission to incorporate all of the things that make me happy!!  I took lots of photos and below are some of my tips on how to elevate your Easter table to a whole new level.  :)

table setting

For me, it's all about the way you feel when you enter the room!  I wanted it to feel light and airy; so I used a linen cloth as my base on the table.

place setting on a table

The rest of my inspiration began with the place settings and napkins.  The light green embroidery really spoke to me, and I came up with the theme of an “Indoor Garden Party.”

flowers

To anchor the table, I called my favorite flower shop, Matlack Florist, and asked them to create a garden arrangement with white, yellow and fresh greens.  I LOVE the olive branches they incorporated, because it also brought in spiritual meaning for me.

bunny figurine on a table

There can’t be Easter without the Easter Bunny!  This one came with his brothers and sisters!! I placed four of these cute ceramic figurines around my arrangement to add some fun and whimsy to the table.

aerial shot of the table setting

I also included Valerie Parr Hill’s mercury glass birds with glass eggs on the table.  These fun vignettes add to the lightheartedness I want to create in my holiday gathering.

glass bird on table setting

For the “drama” I used two sets of her Mercury Glass Pedestals.  Their varying heights brought a whole new level of depth and dimension to the table.

candles on the table

I offset them to “fill the space” and make a more grand gesture!

a full view of the table setting

I hope you like the final look!!

For my sideboard, I laid out the pedestal servers from Valerie, so I know where I’ll be placing the desserts!

serving platter on a side table

Did you notice those lemons in the flower arrangement? They sure do add color to that arrangement!

flower arrangement with lemon decorations

And it wouldn’t be an Easter celebration without colored eggs! These look so real, and I didn’t have to decorate them!

Decorative jar with decorative colored eggs

Now that my table is set, all I have to do is worry about the menu!! I’d love to hear your suggestions!! Go to my Facebook Page and let me know what you think I should serve my guests this Easter :)

God Bless,

Alberti :)

Remembering the Summers with Sunshine Grace

I LOVE smells…for the most part!  I love the smell of apples and cinnamon, a campfire, and vanilla.  On the other hand I am completely opposed to stinky socks, mildew & day-old fish smells. They say our sense of smell can bring back the strongest memories. But, beautiful or nasty scents/smells don’t typically bring back memories for me. However, when I sprayed a little “Sunshine Grace” from Philosophy in the air, I was immediately transported to Spring Break as a kid.

For years, my mom and her friend, Shirley, packed their 9 kids in our “orange tank” and took the 2 day drive from Indianapolis to Sanibel Island, FL.  We stayed at the Island Beach Club, which, at the time, were these little “houses” with wooden slat floors.  (Now it’s a huge fancy resort.)  They were awesome - perfect for a bunch of kids who were slathered in suntan lotion (probably Coppertone) tracking pails of sand in and out of the house. Since we were right on the beach, we’d spend all day there looking for shells, swimming in the ocean and soaking up the sunshine!  (Side story:  our first year in Florida, I met Melanie Rada.  We were kind of naughty.  We spent a little too much time looking for an alligator that lived in a nearby pond.  I’m happy to report, we survived!  Melanie & I became pen pals that Spring and were able to see each other a few more years before losing touch.)  Ah…fun memories!!!

Because Sunshine Grace sent me back 42 years, it got me thinking about other smells/scents that are strongly connected to memories, and two others came rushing back:

Fahrenheit by Christian Dior.  A boyfriend of mine used to wear it.  I loved it so much I wanted my next boyfriend to wear it, and the boyfriend after that.  (I know, totally dumb!!)  It never did smell the same on anyone else, so I stopped the madness.  But, whenever I get a whiff of Fahrenheit, I’m reminded of Doug. Ah...interesting memories!!!

Shalimar by Guerlain.  This was my mom’s perfume. I always knew when it was date night for my parents when I smelled Shalimar.  I used to love to watch her get ready as she put on her make-up, her jewelry and a spritz of perfume.  I’m not sure when she stopped wearing it, but Shalimar will forever remind me of my mom.  Ah…warm memories!!!

What is your strongest “scent” memory?

Lots of Love…Nancy

The Reuben Wrap - What's Your Go-To Wrap? Chicken Caesar? Buffalo Chicken?

$

Hello, foodies…

It’s funny…I’ve been talking about the upcoming holiday for a little while now—I’ve shared breakfast, lunch, dinner recipes...even post-Easter ideas. And one would think that all of that sharing means I’m ready for Easter. Um…just this morning I realized I haven’t made one grocery list. Thank goodness we’ve made lots of great dishes on ITKWDmy menu is covered. But I need to get busy on the rest!

It also just dawned on me that Wednesday’s show falls April 1. Another month in 2015 has already passed us by, but I’m not so sad to see March go. Those springtime flowers are starting to peek out from the ground and we’ve got a whole lot of green ahead. So, happy April and happy sandwich month! We’re reinventing classic sandwiches on In the Kitchen with David throughout April and we’re starting things off with a real must-try: a Reuben Wrap.

Reuben Wrap
Makes 6

This recipe is prepared with the Anchor Hocking 3-Piece No-Slip Mix/Serve Glass Bowl Set with True Seal Lid (K40038).

Go to David's Recipe Item Page for the full list of items that David has used in his recipes.

Ingredients:

Spread:

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup chili sauce
  • 2 Tbsp dill pickle relish
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp minced onion
  • 1 hard boiled egg, minced
  • 1 Tbsp capers, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp hot sauce

Sandwich:

  • 24 slices Swiss cheese, about 3/4 lb
  • 48 slices corned beef brisket, about 1-1/4 lbs
  • 1 (14.4-oz) can sauerkraut, drained and squeezed
  • 6 (10") flour tortillas

Preparation:

  1. To make the spread, combine all of the spread ingredients in a small bowl. Refrigerate until you assemble the wraps.
  2. To prepare the wraps, preheat the oven to 350°F. Lay out the flour tortillas on a clean, flat surface. Lay 4 slices of Swiss cheese, 8 slices of corned beef, about 1/4 cup of spread, and 1/4 cup of sauerkraut on the surface of each tortilla, leaving about a 1/2" border.
  3. Fold in both sides of the tortilla, and while holding the sides, begin to roll up from the bottom, tucking the sides in as you roll. Place the rolled tortilla, seam side down, on a baking sheet. Repeat with remaining tortillas.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes. Let the wraps cool for 5–10 minutes. Slice in half widthwise and serve.

Reuben Wrap

I love a great Reuben…but it’s a commitment kind of sandwich. Do not attempt if you’re wearing a white shirt. Must have napkins AND wet naps accessible while eating. So I thought, what if we made the Reuben a little less messy. And the answer was, yes, we can...just put it in a wrap. Granted, you will have some Thousand Island drips on your plate. But you won’t have a mess of corned beef, sauerkraut, and dressing all over your plate, your hands, and you. On another note, do take the time to make that homemade dressing…you can’t imagine how different fresh tastes from the bottled sauces.

Foodies, your blog question today is what’s your go-to wrap? Do you love a chicken Caesar? Buffalo chicken? Hummus and grilled vegetables? I’ll see you on Wednesday night at 8pm ET for In the Kitchen with David.

A Very ‘Special’ ‘DreamLook’ with Patrick’s Pick(s) Of The Month – April 2015!

It is so good to be back with my new ‘Patrick’s Pick Of the Month!  And this one is extra special because it’s our first Today’s Special Value DreamLook!!!!

What Is A ‘DreamLook’?!

DreamLook is our exciting new concept in ensemble fashion design.  We’ve created gorgeous coordinated tops and bottoms that work together—or separately - to create a variety of looks that YOU choose! It’s a fabulous way to boost your wardrobe for Spring & Summer!  Say goodbye to trying to decide what goes with what in your wardrobe – and say HELLO to some complete Quack-Tastic head-to-toe looks!

What Do You Get When You Cross A Skirt With A Short!?

Ladies, drumroll please!!!  This month’s Patrick’s Pick is the most amazing, feminine and comfortable item you will EVER put on your body!!  It’s the latest DreamJeannes creation from our design team –and it’s Today’s Special Value, click here --> DreamJeannes Smile & Style Skort!  Here’s a picture of Angel and Kerin in it – don’t they look ready for spring and summer?!

Palm Beach Chic!

As we all know, Jeanne Bice LOVED the whole ‘Palm Beach Chic’ look!  She loved helping you bring out your inner ‘preppy’ and she loved helping you not only look FABULOUS when you put on Quacker Factory – but she loved helping you feel COMFORTABLE as well.  So I have NO doubt that she is smiling from heaven with my Patrick’s Pick, and our new DreamLook, this month!

Why Will You Love This Skort So Much?!

Let me count the ways, Ladies!  First of all, you are going to love, love, love that this one is in our DreamJeannes fabric.  That’s going to give you the comfort Jeanne wanted you to have – and it’s going to give you the option to get casual – or to get dressy.  You’re also going to love that this one has a fully elasticated pull-on waist – and two scoop pockets in the front.  And since this one will fall just above your knee, you’ll be wearing this all spring and summer - probably more than your shorts!  And wait until you see the pretty eyelet cutouts and sprinkling of rhinestones around the scalloped hem – after all, Jeanne always knew how much you love to sparkle and shine!  This scalloped skort has a style that will make you smile!  And with 7 color options, you really are spoiled for choice!  Here’s Angel in the Royal Blue option – how Quack-A-Beautiful does she look?!

But Wait – That’s Not All!

It wouldn’t be a DreamLook if there weren't some coordinating pieces to go with the Skort – and this DreamLook has THREE matching items!  The first one is the DreamJeannes Smile ‘n Style Scalloped Eyelet Jacket .  Like the Skort, it comes in 7 colors:  Black, Bleached Denim, Dark Indigo, Lipstick Red, Royal Blue, Ultra Pink – and everyone’s favorite – White.  Here’s our beautiful Quack-Ette model Kerin in the Dark Indigo – I love the pretty scallop detail around the wrists – and you’re going to love the rhinestone collar and on-seam pockets!

Beauty Is In The ‘Eyes’ Of The Beholder!

All eyes will be on you when you wear the next coordinating piece with Today’s Special Value and this months DreamLook - the Eyelet Scallop T-Shirt .  This beauty comes in 7 colors as well – including my favorite, Lime Green.  You’ll love the versatility of this one regardless of what color or colors you order, because EVERY single one goes with EVERY one of the skorts – how Quack-Tabulous is that?!  Here’s Kerin in the Black option – just look at the detail, and the love, our wonderful design team put into this one!

Icing On The Cake!

Jeanne loved embroidery  - so to complete this new DreamLook, we just had to include a top with  some incredible embroidery work in it to make Jeanne happy!  And not only did we do just one – but we went all out and came up with FOUR different options for you – after all, you deserve the very best!!!  Here are the Quack-Tastic options for the Pretty Embroidered Eyelet T-Shirt:

-Black has the most adorable shell and seahorse

-Lime Green has the most comfy beach chair anyone could ever wish for

-Turquoise has the prettiest butterfly you’ve ever seen, and

-White will be having you flying your true colors with its American theme!

The first picture is of Kerin ‘pretty in pink’ wearing the black option – and the second picture has Angel in the Turquoise with the butterfly, and Kerin in the White, ready for summer and the 4th of July!

I hope you love Today’s Special Value – and our latest DreamLook collection - as much as we loved creating this for you!!

Make sure to join me today, Wednesday April 1st over on Angel’s Facebook page where I’ll be chatting with you at 10am for two-hours – and then again at 6pm for another two hours.  All you have to do is go to Angel’s Quacker Factory Facebook page and ‘like’ it.  Here’s the link:  http://bit.ly/A_Facebook

Philosophy TSV set

Here is what the Philosophy experts Dara, Mari Lyn and Heidi want to share with you about this super-sized Today’s Special Value.

Mari Lyn

Mari Lyn Meier:  This Today’s Special Value is one of my favorites because it has everything you need to extend the life of your fragrance all day long.  Philosophy fragrances challenge the notion that fragrance needs to be overwhelming to be noticed.  Our grace and love stories invite people to get closer and share the scent.  They are sheer, light, and full of emotion.   The choice is easy because there is not a bad egg in the basket.

I’ll make it easier for you…

If you like soft florals and want to boost your confidence and feel pretty – choose Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace Philosophy Set

If you like soap and water clean scents and the idea of something uncomplicated, but fresh – choose Pure Grace

Pure Grace Philosophy Set

If you like romantic blends of fruit and vanilla and the feeling of falling in love – choose Falling in Love

Falling in Love philosophy set

If you like something a little more spirited, but well-rounded with berries, florals and cashmere and you feel flirty and soulful – choose Unconditional Love.

 Unconditional Love philosophy set

Head to toe, day to night – this Today’s Special Value will not disappoint you.  We deliver our most beautiful fragrances and sneak in the advanced skincare.  Imagine feeling proud to show off that spring skin because you are clean, exfoliated, hydrated and scented….all day long.

Heidi Guest:

I always love offering our signature bath and body experience to Philosophy fans, new and old.  For all of us, bathing is a practical ritual in our day.  To take this from a necessity to a luxurious experience is something that I am always delighted to bring to others.  To infuse the day with a little more joy, a little more pampering, while providing best in class care for your body skin and hair, is a wonderful lifestyle option to offer others.

Each fragrance we are featuring in this collection evokes a mood.  We always say “change your mood; change your fragrance.”   We are offering a complete fragrance wardrobe to choose from.  Often I select a Philosophy fragrance to match my mood or, perhaps, to evoke an emotion that i want to feel.  Most days, I am an Amazing Grace girl.  I love the clean scent mixed with a light hint of floral. Immediately, I feel feminine and classically beautiful, no matter what I am wearing.  On especially busy or complicated days, I reach for Pure Grace.  I love the soap and water clean and how it makes me feel active, refreshed, and crisp. Fragrance has a powerful effect on our well-being and I love that each product not only offers a prestige body treatment experience but also that each is infused with fragrances that whisper and don’t shout: scents that draw people closer to you.

I love this particular TSV collection because it features the products our QVC customers ask for most.  I know they will be excited to see every item because each, on its own, is a favorite.  When they are placed together, it is pure heaven.  I also like that we are providing a complete layering experience and that each person can decide when and how they want to use their four piece collection.  For example, I rely on the 3-in-1 shampoo, shower gel and bubble bath every day, always as my morning wake up call, and, as often as I can, as a luxurious, relaxing bath of bubbles at night.   This is the philosophy product I cannot do without.

I adore using it with the satin body puff included in the collection because it does a beautiful job of creating pampering suds in the shower.  I even use the shower gel on my fine washables.  The scents are so clean and the formulas are so gentle.  People are always saying, “You smell so good.”  It’s the best compliment ever.  About 4x a week, I use the olive oil body scrub for a more thorough exfoliation treatment.  Skin emerges from the shower or the bath smooth and super soft, like I’ve been to a spa and had a salt scrub.  I am beyond in love with the whipped body crème and find myself putting this on directly after the shower every morning. I also keep a tub on my nightstand as part of my nighttime relaxation ritual.  My skin looks so healthy and glowing that there is no way that I would skip a day.  And the eau de parfum scent tops it all off.  I personally love eau de parfums because they provide the most long-lasting fragrance. When they are layered over clean, hydrated skin, you get the truest scent too.

You are simply going to love our supersize 4 piece layering experience.   The hardest choice is to decide which scent to choose!  The truth is that you cannot go wrong with any of them.  For most of us at Philosophy, we use at least one or two.  These scents mix incredibly well.  I frequently mix Amazing and Pure Grace products to create my own custom scent.

Headshot of Dara

Dara Lynn:  I want to share my personal story on fragrance.  I love fragrance; I have always loved fragrance since I was a little girl.  I love to look at the bottles. I loved having a tray of fragrances to select from.  I would select based on my mood or outfit.  I was very heavy handed with fragrance in my younger years and look back now with a bit of embarrassment on how much fragrance I wore and must have been one of those people who left a fragrance calling card.  Funnily enough I never could smell it on myself.

Fast forward years later to when I started working for Philosophy.  Our fragrances are designed to be clean, soft, and easy to be around.  It was a totally different approach to fragrance.  They were whispers not shouts.  When I started using the fragrances, I liked them because I think I always admired fragrance and I believe in Philosophy and wanted to represent all things Philosophy. As time with the company went on, I grew to love the fragrances in a different way than I ever had in the past.  Typically, before Philosophy, I would pick up the latest and most popular fragrance and use a bottle of it and move on to another and then another.  I rarely repurchased any of the same fragrance.  It was the opposite with the fragrances at Philosophy.  I would see my shower gel getting low and I would immediately reorder. If I was on a trip and forgot my fragrance I did not feel the same.

So when I look back now as Philosophy turns 19, I have been using our fragrances for 18 of the years that I have been here.  I truly rely on these fragrances to make my skin look beautiful and scent myself with lovely clean easy to be around fragrances.  It is a rare thing with products especially in beauty that you can say you have loved and have relied on the same fragrances for almost two decades.  Now the fragrances are a part of me.  I do mix them and change them up, and have my favorites of course.  However, one thing is for sure: I am never without them.  These fragrances always get it right.  On my most important days or my most casual days I reach for them to complete how I feel.  They make me feel beautiful, they smell clean and they never impose on another person.  When I need calming they are there for me, when I need a burst of energy they are there for me, when I am looking forward to an occasion, they are there for me.  They have become a part of my life in a way I never imagined.  They are as much a beauty tool for me as my makeup brushes or my purity made simple or hope in a jar.  I use them to enhance my life and when I choose a fragrance, I want to know the others around me enjoy it too.  Even after all of these years when someone stops me and says "you smell so good," I still feel the same way I did when I heard it for the first time all those years ago when I fell in love with Philosophy fragrance.

One of my favorite topics about Philosophy is fragrance and mood and how it makes you feel.  Fragrance by Philosophy is the first stepping stone to connecting with feeling beautiful.  Very often when we give a consultation to introduce someone to Philosophy we always include fragrance in the conversation as a starting point. How you scent your skin is key to how you feel.  We talk about our fragrances being worn very close to the skin. What that translates to is fragrance that is very easy to be around.  People might not even detect it as fragrance, but they do know that you smell so good. In a hectic world with so much going on, wearing a clean, easy to be around fragrance is very grounding.  These products give you fabulous looking skin and fabulously scented skin.  You start the layering process in the tub or shower with mounds of cleansing bubbles from the gel.  You can polish and scent your skin with the olive oil body scrub, a totally unique item to Philosophy.  Dive into a tub of whipped body crème that is rich in texture and melts into the skin quickly and absorbs, hydrates and scents you in the fragrance of your choice. Final step, spray on the EDP spray in your choice.  Our highest concentration of fragrance carries you through your days and evenings.  Why not have the best looking and the best fragranced skin around?

Here are some of my favorite tips and tricks for full body scenting…

  • In a hurry? Mix a pump of your shower gel and a pump of your olive oil body scrub together to combine your bubbles and olive oil in one speedy quick-spa!
  • Need a deep body polish?  Use your olive oil body scrub on dry skin before you step into the tub or shower, a deeper polish used this way.
  • Overnight mani and pedi? Use your whipped body crème on your hands and feet and sleep in socks and a pair of cotton gloves.  You can even do this trick while watching TV or reading a book. It works wonders to deeply moisturizer your dry feet and cuticle beds.  I do this trick in between shows on QVC so my hands and feet stay super hydrated and deeply moisturized.
  • Reverse scenting? What is that? I have often used my spray fragrances or body spritzes first before I layer on the whipped body crème.  I get a different "lock" on the fragrance and I love the staying power I get by using it this way.  After the tub or shower, I spray on a generous amount of the fragrance and then top off to "lock" my fragrance on to the skin with the whipped body crème.  It is not the traditional way of finishing with fragrance but it works for me and I love how it lasts on my skin!
  • Did you say easy sachet for home and away?  I love to take a cotton ball and spray it with fragrance and then tuck the cotton ball into my pajama drawer.  Every night when I reach for my p.j's they are scented and smell so clean and fresh.  I also tuck the spritzed cotton balls in my suitcases when I travel, makes me feel like I am at home.

With grace, love and gratitude,

Philosophy
