Dancing for Charity

Last Saturday I had the day off to participate in a charity dancing event called, "Dancing for Our Future Stars". It's similar to the real "Dancing With The Stars" but with local dancers and professional coaches.

I was lucky for the opportunity to be a "celeb" representing QVC and dance the Tango for nearly 1,000 people at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia, PA. We danced to gain votes which equaled donations. The money raised would then help support and benefit the children who attend the 15 Independence Mission Schools in the Philadelphia area. If you are interested, you can read more about it on their website: www.dancingforourfuturestars.com

My dance partner, Michael, and I practiced as often as we could, but it was tough with our busy work schedules. Most of the time we trained until very late at night. I have no professional dance experience, so to learn such detailed footwork that the tango requires, was pretty challenging for me! I definitely gained a huge amount of respect for professional dancers!

On the night of the event, we competed against 11 other couples, who did all sorts of fun routines! I was pretty nervous to take the floor, especially in front of so many strangers, but once I started, I felt more relaxed. We didn't win the coveted mirror ball trophy, but I was very proud of our tango and how well we performed! I think I did QVC proud! : )

The venue was gorgeous and I was honored to dance for such a worthy cause!
I had lots of fun and it's something to mark off of my bucket list!

My sisters, my mom and me after my dance

See you on Saturday for AM Style with Leah Williams

Laura & Lisa: Better Together

I have known Laura Geller for more than a decade. What a remarkable friend she has become!  So, it is not surprising that our friendship has extended past a host/guest relationship on QVC. Extended well past!!!

The more I got to know Laura over the years, the more I saw her absolute passion for helping others. Especially those dealing with cancer.  And, while Laura and I attended many New York City cancer fundraisers, nothing compared to one in particular!

You see, a national organization singled Laura out for their highest honor based on her generosity toward helping others.  So, you can imagine my joy when Laura asked me to write and present a speech to introduce her and recount her accomplishments!  What an event! And what an eye-opener for me.

Seeing first-hand the need for research and funding. I was so moved and hoped to someday get more involved.  However, nothing could have prepared me for what was coming,

Today, I have been personally touched with a devastating diagnosis of cancer. So, I dig into my memories of what I learned from Laura and other extraordinary generous people. Now, it's my time to STEP up!

And I will.

I now offer myself as a volunteer for the esophageal cancer awareness association. It is my honor to give all I can to help others!

We truly are "better together" in this world!!! Thank you Laura Geller and all other selfless, kindhearted souls for your examples! Thank you for letting us watch you! We watch so we can learn. We learn so we can help. We help so we can, someday, end cancer!

With love, keep smiling!

Lisa

Sunday Style: What's in My Bag?

$

I need to make a confession: my name is Tori and my Dooney bag is my BFF. It goes absolutely everywhere with me, holds all my essentials, and  even gives me a bit of a fashion boost when I’m running errands in my yoga pants and flip flops (it’s magical that way).

As an Associate Producer on QVC Plus, I am always on the go. When we’re not Live on the air, I’m working on upcoming shows and the QVC Plus Blog – so I need to have everything I could ever possibly need with me.  So this week on our QVC Plus blog, I thought it would be really fun to share with you guys what’s currently in my bag.

 Here it is:

Whats in the Bag

 And of course, the details:

1. Dooney & Bourke Pebble Leather Willa Satchel
Why I’m obsessed:  I mean just look at it. Look at everything it fits! And this doesn’t even include my George Constanza Wallet*. It has great pockets which help me attempt to stay organized, and that color? It’s perfect. This is my favorite bag.

[*Said wallet was not included in this picture because it is so gigantic and terrible looking. I am currently in the market for a new wallet if you guys have any suggestions! Really!]

A beautiful bag that fits it all:http://qvc.co/QPlusTorisBag

2. Mally’s Secret to Happy 7 Piece Collection with Bag
Why I’m Obsessed: It’s everything I need to be selfie ready whenever the occasion rises. My foundation, dark circle corrector (because we work late shifts on QVC Plus!), and eyeliner are all there ready to go. But! Hands down my favorite part of this kit is the bag. The bright pink color makes it easy to find in my purse, and it organizes everything perfectly.

 The Secret’s Out: http://qvc.co/QPlusMallyinthebag

3. Ipad
Why I’m Obsessed: Perfect for checking email, online shopping, and (obviously) watching QVC Plus on the go. (See what I did there?)

 Always Connected: http://qvc.co/QPlusBagIpad

 4. My Planner
Why I’m Obsessed: Nothing like a Friday night just jammin’ on my planner! Kidding, I save that for Monday mornings. But! if they ever make a Tori action figure – it would have to come with its own teeny tiny little planner.

5. Three  – Hole Punch
(Yes, I am the type of girl who carries a three hole punch around in my purse. )

6. My Keys

7.Fresh Crème Body Lotion with Spf 15
Why I’m Obsessed:  Everything is always better with Sun protection. Especially this amazing Fresh Crème body lotion. I find myself reaching for this lotion all the time, mostly for the awesome scent.

Sun Protection never smelled this good:http://qvc.co/QPlusBagPhilosophy

8. Aviator Sunglasses
Why I’m Obsessed: I’ll be honest - I just like wearing these because they make me feel like I’m in “Top Gun”. Unfortunately these aren’t from the Q, but there are a few pairs on QVC.com that are very similar!

Highway to the Fashion Zone: http://qvc.co/QPlusBagaviators

 9. Halo Charger
Why I’m Obsessed: I can drain a phone battery like nobody’s business, but luckily I always have my Halo with me to keep myself always connected. I love how compact my Halo is, and how easy it is just to throw in my bag.

I’ve Got the Power:http://qvc.co/QPlusBagHalo

10. tarte Super-Size Lights Camera Lashes Mascara
Why I’m Obsessed:  In addition to my Mally Kit, I also carry with me this mascara from Tarte. I have the world’s shortest lashes, and need absolutely all the help I can get. Luckily, This mascara is my saving grace. A few coats of Lights Camera Lashes and I am good to go!

 Ready for my Closeup:http://qvc.co/QPlusbagtarte

11.   Headsets
Why I’m Obsessed:  Sometimes during QVC Plus shows, I have to wear these headsets when I’m producing a show. Not only are they incredibly fashionable – but they’re helpful too. These headsets help me talk to the other producers, the studio coordinators, and the control room operators.  I need them constantly at work, so they are always in my bag.

And that’s it! (With the exception of that awful wallet of course). I hope you had fun taking a sneak peek into my bag! I invite you all to snap a quick picture of what’s in your purse and share it in the comments below – you might be surprised at all of the items that you carry around day to day!

[PS. Don't forget to Tune into Sunday Style this week on QVC Plus. The fun starts at 6:00 PM ET with 'What to Wear', then at 8:00 PM ET we have an hour of Dooney and Bourke followed by an hour of Quacker Factory. Finally at 11 PM ET we have an hour of 'Susan Graver Style' with exclusive styling tips from the designer herself!!]

Chocolate PB&B Sandwich - What Was Your Favorite Childhood Sandwich?

$

Hello, foodies…

I just left an In the Kitchen with David recipe development meeting for June! (I can hardly believe we’re talking about June recipes already!) But, we work ahead a bit on the show so we have time to create how-to videos, shoot really nice photos, and most importantly of all, develop the recipes themselves. It’s a lengthy process but a very important one, so we really put a lot of time and effort into making our dishes. Our “theme” in June is Road Trip month so we started combing through all your college town-restaurant entries today and WOW, DID YOU ALL SEND SOME GREAT PLACES! Thank you all for your stories, pictures, and suggestions—we hope to pick a winner very soon!

Now back to April and this springtime weather. It’s nearly 60 degrees here in the West Chester area today and our daffodils are opening up all over. Even my tulips out front are peeking out of the ground. I can’t wait until they bloom. I promise I’ll post a picture when they do!

Do  you remember our theme for April on ITKWD? We’re reinventing classic sandwiches and this Sunday we’ve got something for your sweet tooth. We’re making a spin on the good old PB&J…Chocolate PB&B Sandwiches.

Chocolate PB&B Sandwich

Chocolate PB&B Sandwich
Serves 5

This recipe is prepared with the Emeril Pro Series 2-Piece Raised Cullen E-Knife Set (K42273).

Go to David's Recipe Item Page for the full list of items that David has used in his recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (16-oz) frozen butter pound cake, thawed
  • 5 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 10 tsp creamy peanut butter
  • 1 large banana, sliced
  • 2 (1.55-oz) bars Hershey's milk chocolate

Preparation:

  1. Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 350°F.
  2. Trim the sides (about 1/4") of the pound cake to make a flat, even surface. Discard the edges. Cut the pound cake into 10 even slices.
  3. Spread 1 side of 5 pound cake slices with half of the softened butter and then place them, butter-side down, on a piece of parchment paper. Spread a teaspoon of peanut butter on the inside of all 10 slices. Arrange the bananas over the pound cake slices on the parchment paper. Place 4 squares of the Hershey's chocolate on top of the banana. Top with the other 5 slices of pound cake and spread all the outside tops with the rest of the butter. Press together gently.
  4. Preheat a large skillet over medium-low heat. Place the pound cake sandwiches into the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes, or until golden brown on one side. Gently flip the pound cake sandwiches and cook for another 3–4 minutes.
  5. Place in the skillet in the oven for 2–3 minutes, or until the chocolate has softened. Remove the pan from the oven, place onto a cooling rack, and let it cool for 5 minutes. Serve immediately.

I always preferred peanut butter and banana sandwiches to PB&Js, so when we created this recipe we decided my preferred combo would be the perfect start of a more complex dessert sandwich. The result is this recipe. This does serve 5 people…if said people possess self-control. But, these are ooey, gooey, and downright addictive. So if you’re hosting dessert lovers, maybe plan on buying some extra ingredients.

If you buy a bunch of bananas, maybe my sandwich isn’t the only dessert at your party. How about my Deep-Fried Banana with Chocolate and Peanut Butter?

Or, No-Bake Banana Pudding?

Your blog question today is what was your favorite childhood sandwich? Peanut butter and jelly? Bologna and cheese? A fluffer nutter? I’ll see you this Sunday at Noon ET, foodies.

Keep it flavorful!

How to Attract Butterflies to Your Garden - Day 1 of 12 Refresh & Renew Tips!

Hi, everyone!

Since so many of you loved the tips I shared in January for our 31 Days of Organization project, we wanted to give this kind of thing another go. Since it's already the middle of April, we're not doing 31. Instead, we’re doing 12 straight days of tips on how to refresh and renew your home for spring. And it starts….TODAY!

First thing’s first…the garden. The weather is FINALLY getting nicer here in Eastern PA and I’m SO excited to get outside for some garden therapy. And I can’t WAIT for the butterflies to return to my garden. I love butterflies…they have a special place in my heart because I really believe that old legend...butterflies are our loved ones who are no longer with us, but who come back to say hello. I find they soothe my soul and I work hard to create a butterfly-friendly garden. Here’s what you can do to create your own butterfly haven:

How to Attract Butterflies

A few more helpful tips. Don’t use insecticides. And, don’t release store-bought butterflies into the wild because they could spread disease and harm wild butterflies. Finally, just as hummingbirds are attracted to feeders, you might try attracting butterflies with pieces of fruit (like watermelon and cantaloupe). Place them around your garden or set out tiny dishes of fruit juice or sugar water.

We have two awesome butterfly bush assortments from Cottage Farms available online…this is the 6-Piece Classic Collection:

M46297

And this is the 3-Piece Garden Idols Collection...

M46546

If you don’t have butterfly bushes, I HIGHLY recommend them. They’re easy to grow, they’re winter hardy, and they grow quickly, ensuring sooner butterfly visits.

Did you see the pictures I posted of Trevor at the Butterfly Experience at the Philadelphia Flower Show this year?

Trevor and the Butterflies

Butterfly on Trevor's Head!

He STILL talks about how cool that was and I wholeheartedly agree. Be sure to check Facebook and what’s trending…that’s where you’ll find a new Refresh & Renew Tip for the next 11 days. I’ll see you soon.

From my home to yours,
—Jill

Caprese Panini - Tell Me How You Make the Ultimate Grilled Cheese...

$

Hello, foodies…

We couldn’t very well “reinvent classic sandwiches” without doing a grilled cheese! So Wednesday’s recipe is what I like to call a grown-up grilled cheese: a Caprese Panini.

VIDEO

Caprese Panini
Serves 4

This recipe is prepared with the DeLonghi Retro Panini Grill (K120956) and the Nutri Ninja 2-in-1 Food Processor and Blender (K41899).

Go to David's Recipe Item Page for the full list of items that David has used in his recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups lightly packed fresh basil leaves
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 2 oz fresh Parmesan cheese, cut into 1/2" pieces
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 8 slices Italian country-style bread, sliced 1/2" thick
  • 2 vine-ripened tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 12 oz fresh Mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • Oil cooking spray

Preparation:

  1. Place the basil, garlic, Parmesan pieces, salt, and pepper into a food processor and pulse 5–6 times. While the machine is running, slowly add the olive oil in a steady small stream until fully incorporated. If needed, occasionally stop to scrape down the sides of the container. Place the mixture into an airtight container and refrigerate until needed.
  2. To assemble the sandwiches, coat 1 side of each bread slice with cooking spray. Place the bread slices on a clean work surface, oiled-sides down. Spread the basil mixture on the inside of all 8 slices. Evenly distribute the tomatoes and Mozzarella cheese on 4 of the bread slices. Cover with the other 4 bread slices, oiled-sides up, and press together gently.
  3. To make the paninis, preheat a press or set a large grill pan over medium heat. Cook the sandwiches for 5–7 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted. If using a grill pan, be sure to flip the sandwich. Serve immediately.

Caprese Panini

Foodies, we hope you’re enjoying our recipe videos…we try to make them short and sweet, but informative. We've got quite a collection now on YouTube…and we've added also a "video" icon to my recipe page. Every recipe that has a how-to video has an icon next to it. If there’s anything you’d like to see us do in the future, don’t hesitate to let us know. We LOVE your feedback.

Instead of a blog “question” today, I’d like you to tell me instead how you make the ultimate grilled cheese. Do you like my Mac and Cheese Grilled Cheese? Maybe you use three or four kinds of cheese? Do you add a little ham or turkey? One of my favorite grilled cheese tips came from Laura Werlin, author of Grilled Cheese Please. She told me to put a mix a little shredded cheese in with the butter before spreading it on the bread. That gives you that delicious crispy, crunchy cheese that should be its own food group. I know you know what I mean! Laura also told me that she always uses shredded cheese on her sandwiches, instead of sliced, because it tends to melt more evenly. I can’t wait to hear your grilled cheese secrets! See you Wednesday for In the Kitchen with David at 8pm ET.

Keep it flavorful!

Does QVC “walk the talk”?

$

There are many things I appreciate about QVC.  But, at top of my list is their dedication & support of our viewers through FFANY Shoes on Sale (breast cancer), Super Saturday (ovarian cancer) and Beauty with Benefits (Cancer and Careers).  (FYI - “Cancer and Careers empowers, educates and provides essential tools to people with cancer so that they can thrive in the workplace.”)

But does QVC really “walk the talk”?  I’ll let you decide…

In the 2009 I was asked to join the QVC host team.  3 days before my job began; I was told I had invasive breast cancer.  After processing that “tiny tidbit” of information, I wondered if I would still have a job. The next day, I called my soon-to-be-boss, Jack, and told him the news.  I asked, “What would you like to do?”  His response, “What do you mean?  Are you asking if you still have a job?”  I said, “Yep, that’s what I’m asking.”  He said, “Of course you do.  We want you here.”  Then he said something I will never forget:  “How can I support you?”

Those were not idle words, either.  I began work that Monday and for the months that followed, they adjusted my schedule around doctor’s appointments, surgery, radiation treatments and more.  (Remember, I was new!  I hadn’t done a thing to contribute to my new employer or warrant such kindness.)  Bottom line: Knowing QVC had my back, gave me the ability to thrive at work and made battling breast cancer a whole lot easier.

So, what do you think?  Does Q really “walk the talk’?

Unfortunately, there are so many people who aren’t supported & don’t know where to turn when cancer hits.  On Wednesday, April 15th at 10pm, tune in for QVC & CEW presents “Beauty with Benefits”.  The beauty products you love, and more importantly buy, will benefit “Cancer & Careers”.  And every time you use that blush, that perfume, that skincare you purchased from the show, be reminded that you made a difference!

It's All Greek to Me: Adventures in Homemade Yogurt

$
0
0

I was skeptical at first. Yogurt making was not something I thought I could do in my kitchen. It seemed complicated.  Completely unfamiliar territory. What's even in yogurt? Isn't it just…yogurt?

As I've learned, there are a lot of great reasons to make your own yogurt. Not only can it save you some grocery money, it's delicious. It's easy, too—if you start a batch tonight you'll have homemade yogurt in the morning with enough left to enjoy all week.

Homeade yourt in a bowl

Here's what you need:

  • 5 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt. This acts as a starter for your homemade batch.

And that's it.

Since I'm an absolute yogurt beginner, I used a yogurt maker.  You can just as easily make yogurt without one, but yogurt makers ensure an even, consistent temperature while the yogurt sets, and I didn't want to fuss over mine too much.

Yogurt maker

You'll also need an instant-read thermometer, but more on that in a second. You can use whatever kind of milk you like—even soy milk—and your favorite yogurt. For my first try, I went with skim milk and splurged on a fancy Greek yogurt—since, after all, I only needed a very small amount of it.

When it comes to making yogurt, think slow cooking. A little prep in the beginning pays off big in the end, with a whole lot of nothing (in my case, going to bed) in the middle. Here's how you do it:

1. Heat your milk in a heavy saucepan or Dutch oven to just below boiling, about 185-200 degrees Fahrenheit. This is where that instant-read thermometer comes into play. You can also heat your milk in a microwave, whisking it in one-minute increments. Why heat it? Heating helps stabilize the yogurt when it sets.

Heat milk

2. Let your milk cool to about 100-110 degrees. Again with that thermometer.

Cool milk

3. Mix your starter yogurt into the milk using a whisk until it's smooth.

Whisk

4.  Pour the mixture into your yogurt maker

5. Set your timer. The length of time differs slightly depending on what kind of milk you use. But, if you're using skim milk, let it set for 9-10 hours. Always follow the instructions on your specific yogurt maker, as times may vary.

7. Now walk away. Go to work. Go for a run. Walk your dog. Catch up on your shows. It's totally up to you—the next 9-10 hours are all yours.

8. BOOM! You just made yogurt. There might be some liquid on the top—that’s whey and it's very nutritious. Just stir it back in.

OptionalStep: Turn your yogurt into Greek yogurt. Right now, your yogurt is excellent. It's delicious and ready to be enjoyed however you like. Personally, I can't resist an optional step. Especially when the result is incredibly thick Greek yogurt with very little extra work. Greek-style yogurt is simply strained yogurt, and I tend to prefer it over thinner yogurt.

9. Strain your yogurt in the refrigeratorfor about 2 hours. My yogurt maker came with a strainer attachment, but if you don't have one, you can line a regular kitchen strainer with two layers of cheesecloth, place it over a bowl, and then pour your yogurt into the cheesecloth-lined strainer.  When you’re done straining (the longer you strain, the thicker your yogurt will be), scoop your yogurt into a container and store it in the refrigerator.

10. Pat yourself on the back—you made delicious Greek yogurt at home.

At this point, I had a lot of yogurt—a lot of really good yogurt. What to do with it? If you love yogurt, then this will be no problem. You're only limited by your imagination and the contents of your pantry. Here's what I did.

I like to keep things as simple as possible when I cook—4 or 5 ingredients tops. The yogurt is so good, it doesn’t need much, anyway.

Stir in orange zest, candied ginger, and honey.

Add orange zest, candied ginger, and honey

Or, maple syrup and cinnamon.

Add maple syrup and cinnamon

Try it with your favorite berry preserves and cardamom.

Add berries and cardamom

I promise all three options are fantastic. But, the fun part is coming up with your own favorites. Experiment!

Still have more yogurt? I used my last serving to make creamyblueberry ice pops. (It’s time to think summer, after all.) Just blend together 1 cup Greek yogurt, 2 cups frozen blueberries, 3 tablespoons sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth. Spoon the mixture into paper cups, cover the top of the cups with plastic wrap, poke a stick in the center, and freeze for 4 hours or overnight. Easy!

Yogurt pops

I’m no longer a skeptic. I’m a full-fledged believer in homemade yogurt. It’s such a versatile, healthy ingredient to have on hand, and I think this is a great way to control exactly what goes into it. I hope you have a lot of fun creating your own.

Enjoy!

It's about time!

Hello my LCNY FASHIONISTAS...Welcome to April and spring cleaning. I have decided to take inventory of my house.... my personal house that is...I woke up this weekend and realized that time is flying by….and fast! Wasn’t it just the middle of January?! I made a MUST DO list and here it is:

1.  Get a hold of some very important friends that I have not seen in a while by actually CALLING each one individually and talking to them personally, not by text, and inviting them to my home for dinner to share food, memories and laughter. I have come to realize that a dinner in a restaurant is good, but too fast and not personal.

2.   I bought a box of note cards...you know the ones that are blank inside. I am going “old school” with hand-written notes to those that matter. There is nothing like going to your mailbox and getting a hand-written note that someone put the time and love to write.

3.  To reach out to each one of my kids and tell them what I want for Mother’s Day is “YOU”!!

I want to spend time with you. It does not have to be everyone together at the same time. Whatever works best for you and your schedule. Maybe lunch...a walk to the lake, yard work. Or just chatting...whatever you decide. I will take you any way I can get you for some time together! :)

So you ask, what got into Linda?  I was invited to my brother and sister-in-laws house for a Saturday night dinner. They told me to pack a bag just in case it got late.  By the way, we only live 40 minutes apart.

Sue made homemade lasagna for dinner....best I have had in a long time (or was it because she made it for me?).  We talked, laughed, shared memories and they convinced me to stay over.  We changed into our jams and watched a movie...snuggled in for the night. It felt so good.

When was the last time I spent this much time with my brother and Sue?  The night was priceless.  I drove home the next day thinking.....how do we keep time from getting away from us.  It was my “aha moment”.  Hence my MUST do list……starting THIS Saturday with my sister, Karen.  We are meeting half way for our fav coffee ...chatting in the car until the stores open...shopping until we drop...and then lunch. PERFECTION....

My sister, Karen, her husband and me

So my challenge to you, my friends...make YOUR “Must Do” list and let's share our stories.....that is what girlfriends do.  So grab your cup of joe (or tea) and let your fingers do the writing...to someone you have not reached out to in a while! Pick up the phone and have a long overdue chat with someone. Lastly, remember to join Nancy Hornback and yours truly on Wednesday morning at 9 am for Liz Claiborne New York, because YOU are on my “MUST DO” list.

Your friend,

Linda :)

P.S. Mary Beth has off this Wednesday, but she will be back with us soon!

Beauty With Benefits: How Love, Hugs and Lip Gloss Can Change Someone’s Life

I know what you’re thinking – “Lip Gloss can’t change your life!” – well stick around with me for the next minute or so and I’ll tell you just how impactful it can be!

About three years ago, I had the opportunity to participate in the first ever Beauty with Benefits event at QVC.  The event brought together vendors, products and that night we raised money for an organization called Cancer and Careers.  That night lip gloss….and a LOT of them…helped change the lives of women who were living and recovering from cancer.

QVC hosts at Beauty with Benefits event

Last year, we were able to do even more for this organization and for women who battle cancer and still want to participate in the workplace.  That night we heard so many impactful stories.  We cried, we hugged, and in the end we raised even more money for Cancer and Careers.

Since year one, we have received 5,700 product donations, 123,248 units and 836,500 Gift with Purchase sample donations from our amazingly generous beauty family.  We've even raised over $2.2M for Cancer and Careers!

Alberti at last year's beauty with benefits event

Something else happened that night.  We received a Tweet from a viewer named Ashley, who was watching the event, and shared her story with us.  Ashley is a single mom who also had a battle with cancer, and wanted to support Cancer and Careers for all of the help they provided her when she was getting back in the workforce.  Now it was our chance to do something extra special!

We organized a fun day of beauty for her and had Chaz Dean and Mally give her a complete makeover!!!

Watch the video!

Here are some of the photos from that day.  When you look at them, you really see how its not just about the makeup and the outside, but what happens for all of us on the inside!

It was great working with the team on this and I hope you’ll join us on Wednesday, April 15th at 10pm so that we can come together to support this wonderful organization.

An Inspiring Adventure in Israel

Hello All,

Just spent the most magical days in the beautiful northern region of Israel and I could not wait to share my adventures with you.

Starting with the spectacular region of the Jordan Valley that opens towards the Sea of Galilee now all in full bloom and filled with every color of green imaginable my new “50 Shades of Green”!

The fragrance pours from the Hyssop and Sage fills the air, from my childhood always my favorite aroma of the season.

Land in Israel

Historical sights, archeological treasures and ancient motifs have been found in this region. And, so special to be where many events from the Bible and New Testament took place.

Sitting beside the Sea of Galilee, near the ancient city of Tiberias, I was reminded of my latest Kalos pendant. The transparent colors of the sea from turquoise to the deep greens seem now to be suspended in my Kalos pendant. Looking forward to sharing with you during Jovella!

Designing my Kalos Collection with my dear friend Pearly is truly a beautiful collaboration that results in unexpected colors and  unique styles!

Now, for the most amazing part of my adventure …

A very special gift, I experienced for the first time this beautiful region on a private tour in a seaplane!

It was truly spectacular seeing from this viewpoint! My “50 Shades of Green” below and all for my 50th Birthday!

Safely back on the ground and HIGH with inspiration …

I see a new collection on the horizon!

What Comes First, the Outfit or the Shoe?

Our spring sandals are amazing so it got me thinking, what comes first, the outfit or the shoe?? Do you put the clothes together around the shoe or find a shoe to go with your clothing?? I turned to my friend of 20 years Ed the amazing stylist, and here's what he had to say:

"I have been working with Jane for many years now.  During this time I have not only gotten to know what kind of shoes she likes, but also to know her fashion style as well.

Shoes

A while ago when I was working on another show I came across this great skirt that I knew Jane would love.  Ever since then I have been waiting for an opportunity to use this skirt as part of one of her outfits for her shows.

A couple of weeks ago while chatting before a "Shoe Shopping with Jane" show, she said to me:  "Why don't you create an outfit inspired by one of our shoes and I will wear it for one of my blogs?"  I said:  "Sure!"  Little did she know I already had an outfit in mind but it was not inspired by a shoe, it was inspired by the skirt that I have been waiting to use so patiently.

As I started putting the pieces together of the outfit, I wanted to create a look that was not only fashion forward but also an outfit that represented another side of Jane that we might not get to see as often on-air.

As a fashion stylist my responsibility is not only to make my clients look good but also to make them FEEL good about how they look.  Last week when I showed Jane the outfit I put together for her, she said to me:  "When can I wear it?"  And I said:  "when we take the pictures for the blog."  To which she replied:  "No, I want to wear it on a show!"  That's when I knew that I did my job!  I hope you like it too" -- Ed

My family and I just returned from a fabulous trip to Aruba, where I grew a whole new appreciation for my Clarks Taline Pop slides. I brought five additional Clarks sandals with me, but I ended up ONLY wearing these cool and comfortable slip-ons.

On the first night, we enjoyed a family dinner at an Argentine steakhouse, so I paired my Taline Pop sandals with my elephant beaded little black dress for a casual-chic vibe.

{Feeling effortlessly chic in my Taline Pop sandals and LBD for a family photo}

The next morning, I threw on some shorts and a t-shirt to take my son Dylan for a walk along the beach, but instead of wearing sneakers, I just slipped into these breathable, yet durable slides right as we headed out the door.

{Forget the sneakers! These lightweight slides were perfect for our morning beach walk}

And of course, I wore them sunbathing with my tie dye cover-up. I also wore them indoors like slippers, attempting to windsurf and on the flight home. I just kept gravitating towards them because they are so versatile, easy, and unbelievably comfortable.

{The Taline Pop, a cute cover-up and a cocktail, equals one happy lady!}

So how and where do you plan on wearing your new warm weather slides?

See you soon!

xo Amy

Hello Denim Diva’s,

Maryanne (designer) and me with the Today’s Special Value Denim & Company Beach Cover-up and accessories.

Summer is almost here and have we got the most perfect item for all of your warm weather activities. The Today's Special Value is the DENIM & COMPANY BEACH zip front cover-up with patch pockets and hood. This is an easy to wear look that is both colorful and functional…..oh and did I say…..versatile!!!!!!

As your “go to” beach cover-up for “fun in the sun” activities, this works great over a swimsuit but don’t stop there! Wear this as a casual jacket over your shorts or capris by just adding a great top. You can even dress this up a little bit by adding some fun jewelry or a pretty Denim & Company scarf. The cover-up features a full zip front, generous patch pockets and a hood when the sun is just a little too much and we designed it so it lays away from your neck! Easy…..breezy!

These long active inspired jackets are so fun to wear right now...this is a MUST HAVE for your wardrobe. Shhhhhhh…and don’t tell anyone but this would also make a great summer weight robe that you can wear around the house. The possibilities are endless!

Remember diva’s…life’s a beach and we are all just playing in the sand!

Have a great summer and please check out my Facebook page: Gary Goben for QVC.
