What's Your Best "Company's Coming" Sandwich? Reubens? Meatball Sandwiches?

Hello, foodies…

Oh when the saints…go marchin’ in…oh when the saints go marchin’ innnnnnnn….

Are you singing too? I’m excited. This Wednesday night we’re “going” to New Orleans for our In the Kitchen with David Road Trip. So many delicious foods hail from New Orleans. But, don’t just take my word for it. Our very own Jennifer Coffey is born-and-raised “Saint.” And, I asked her to give you a little taste of this tasty city.

Did somebody say Road Trip?? Yes!!

David Venable’s taking us all over the country and enjoying the very best cuisine that our nation has to offer…so I just knew he had my native city on his agenda! I’m New Orleans born and raised, so I’m excited about letting the good times roll at the Q!

Whether you’re a longtime resident of Louisiana’s river city or a first-time Mardi-Gras reveler, you’ll agree this city has a mystique like none other.  We boast some of the best jazz, the best Creole cuisine, one of America’s biggest parties, and in MY humble opinion the best football team (Geaux Saints)!

Even when you’re not joining the massive, nightly party on Bourbon Street, you can stroll through the French Quarter and snap photos of the elaborate ironwork and architecture, tour the fascinating above-ground cemetaries which are architectural marvels on their own, find a hole-in-the-wall jazz venue (those are often the best), or shop the fresh selections at the French Market…over 200 years old!

But ultimately, it’s all about the food, right? My favorites that you can find all over the Vieux Carre are seafood gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, a good-n-sloppy roast beef po’-boy, and bread pudding with rum sauce for dessert! My daughter is partial to my homemade red beans and rice, and our Sunday-morning breakfast of beignets. Yum!

Here are a few pics from my latest return home. I spent my first 25 years there, leaving not long before Hurricane Katrina. Every time I return, I’m so proud of my city’s recovery and their continual triumph over adversity. Good food, good music and good vibes always prevail!

Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler!

In my humble opinion, the World's Best Gumbo from The Gumbo Shop in the French Quarter!

Cloudy-day skyline from a hotel rooftop. There's the St. Louis Cathedral and in the distance, the Mississippi River Bridge!

You could spend the whole day just photographing pretty scrollwork that adorns the French Quarter residences...

The historic French Market...hundreds of vendors bring fresh fruits, veggies, spices, and arts and crafts and have been doing so for over 200 years!

I spent a whole morning just taking pics of pretty Quarter doors. I keep meaning to print them out and frame them!

On clear days, spaces like this are usually filled with Tarot card readers and caricature artists. Local flavor abounds!

Are y’all as hungry as I am after reading that? Thought so. Let’s make a muffuletta sandwich.

What makes a muffuletta different than your average Italian sandwich is the robust olive spread.

Put your olives, onions, Pepperoncini, capers, cauliflower, celery, carrots, oil & vinegar, and the spices into a food processor. (Hello, KitchenAid!)

Pulse until  just chopped (as shown); don’t over-do it. The texture of the pieces makes this really tasty.

I like to use a round Italian loaf for my Muffuletta, but these sandwiches come in many shapes and sizes. You needn’t even use Italian bread, if you like something like Ciabatta more. If you opt for a round loaf, as pictured, slice it in half (like a bagel.)

Then, scoop out some of that fleshy middle. This is SO important. If you don’t scoop, you won’t get the sandwich in your mouth. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Generously dollop the spread on both halves of the loaf.

And, unwrap and separate all your fillings.

Evenly layer the ham, salami, Provolone, capicola, mortadella, and Mozzarella, in that order, on the bottom of the sandwich.

Then, carefully place the top half of the bread, olive-spread-side down, onto the layered meats and cheeses.

Wrap the entire sandwich in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least for 1 hour. To save time the day-of your party, you can make this ahead and keep it refrigerated for up to 24 hours.

Slice the sandwich into 12–14 wedges and serve.

Time for your blog question, foodies…what’s your best “company’s coming” sandwich? Do you make reubens? Meatball sandwiches? Or do you offer a spread of fillings and have guests make-their-own? I’ve been making a lot of sliders for get-togethers…who doesn’t love a slider!? Especially if they’re stuffed with pulled pork and topped with slaw! See you Wednesday at 8pm ET. It'll be a delicious show...all part of QVC's summer food feast!

As Jen would say… Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler!

Vote For Your Favorite! It's Denim & Co.'s DESIGNER VS DIVA...ROUND 3!!!

0
0

Greetings, Denim Divas!!

Now that you've voted on your new official Denim & Co. nickname (Denim Divas! Nice!!), it's time to cast your all-important vote in our latest Denim & Co. viewer poll, "Designer vs. Diva - Round Three"!

If this is your first time participating, I'll give you the skinny....

Denim & Co. Lead Designer, Gary, and your resident Denin & Co. Diva (that would be me!) have each chosen a brand new Denim & Co. style that we personally LOVE. A photo of each item and why it was chosen are presented in this blog, followed by a poll in which YOU pick which one is your favorite! The tricky part is...you won't know which one is Gary's favorite and which one is MY favorite until we reveal the one that received the MOST viewer votes after the poll closes!! So far, Gary's pick won the most votes the first time, and my pick won the most votes the second time. So now it's time for round three!!

This time around, we've each chosen a new Denim & Co. DRESS. Look over the following photos and descriptions carefully, and then VOTE for YOUR favorite!! Both dresses are terrific, so there's no "wrong" answer...but like you, there are some things we each like better about one or the other!

So, on with the voting!!

Denim & Co. Short Sleeve Knit Dress with Pleating Detail

This dress was chosen because it's a cute, fresh style for the summer season with the addition of subtle smocking detail. It's a classic, basic summer-y dress that becomes a chic summer staple. It has short sleeves and a removable tie belt, and it is made from a 95% cotton/5% spandex fabric blend. It's semi-fitted and has a length ranging from 39 inches in the XXS to 43-1/4 inches in the 3X. It's easy care to care for - you can machine wash and tumble dry! There is nothing better than the versatility of a dress, especially for the warm summer months. Every girl needs a new dress or two for the season! The feminine details of this dress are perfect for dressing up OR for casual, weekend wear! The best part is that this dress features the perfect figure-flattering silhouette that just skims the body for ease of movement. Let's face it...we all love our t-shirts, and this dress is just as easy to wear but with a lot more pizazz and fashion-ality!!

Denim & Co. V-neck Tiered Gauze Dress with Tie Belt

This dress was chosen because it brings sensational summer styling to your wardrobe in a beautifully tiered gauze style. It's an easy, cool way to look instantly pulled together. It features tiered layering detail and a tie around the waist. It is made of a 55% cotton/45% polyester fabric blend. It's lined, semi-fitted, and has a length ranging from 41-1/2 inches in the XXS to 45-3/4 inches in the 3X.

This dress says 'I'm on vacation' even when it's simply sipping a cool drink on the backyard patio. It's flirty, feminine, and very figure-flattering. Gauze and summertime go hand in hand. The fabric is cool and breezy, and the style can be worn super casually or dressed up for dinner or a special occasion. Just add a stack of bangles and a colorful sandal! Waiter, I'll take another umbrella drink, please! Smile

Remember, we really LOVE getting your feedback, and it will help us choose future Denim & Co. items to offer you on the Q!! You'll have one week to vote and leave your comments! Voting ends on Tuesday, June 18th at 1:00 PM ET! We will announce which dress got the most votes and which one of us picked it during our Denim & Co. 11 AM ET show on Tuesday, June 25th!! After we announce the winner, you'll be able to purchase one or both dresses, if you so desire, or you can shop them now to make sure you get the size and color you want!

Happy voting!

XOXO,

Carolyn

Best Doctor's Office Trip Ever!

0

Hello my fellow LCNY fashionistas.  I was going to write about my daughters upcoming nuptials but true to form I am going to share another life moment.  I was sitting in the doctor's office last week and met two other women.  Our discussions were lively and then we landed on the topic of dating.  Let me set the stage on our ages, yours truly 54 and widowed, lovely Jen 26 broken up with her college sweetheart, Meg 35 is a divorced Mom of two.  Yes I was the dinosaur! Questions about, match.com, eharmony and the countless other web sites got lots of giggles.  I responded that back in my day love just happened there was no money back guarantee if you did not find love in 90 days! But then we got down to the real meat and potatoes: how does one meet a guy and date in 2013.  In this electronic age, texting, emails, Instagram... it is hard to meet someone out and about.  All of us had been on the proverbial blind date, the fix up from your best friend, and the ever well intention of your mother's friend's friend who knows this wonderful man... ugh!!!  Maybe I am the undying romantic but I told them if your heart is open and you are ready it will happen. Positive energy in the universe and being approachable may make the difference.  Loud groan from both of them. I told them about Larry and my story and how our first kiss made my knees weak and 27 years later our last kiss was like our first.  That we bumped into each other at a college mixer and the rest was history.  Yes Jen did ask what a college mixer was and needed to use her smart phone calculator to determine how long ago I went to college. Now I am totally feeling ancient...

Here is where the tide turned.  I was dressed in LCNY jeans, 2x2 rib tank and my favorite citrus cardigan, oh and my new Dooney orange patent satchel.

A230520A3950

Jen had a pony tail and was in scrubs, Meg workout clothes.  I am just saying if first impressions last 30 seconds why not put your best foot forward.  They commented on my outfit I told them what I did for a living and my show on Wednesday mornings with MBR. I explained our new concept in the show THE NEW YOU and we talked about my mantra adjusting your sails. Change is always good.  It gets us out of the rut and brings in new life.  Jen decided to start styling her hair in the morning and change out of the scrubs before meeting her friends after work.  Meg chose to try one of our new maxi skirts with a tank top just as easy as work out clothes.

A232265

Change is in the air... I know your burning question is what change did I make?  Well... they gave me the inside scoop that all the handsome men my age get coffee at Starbucks in the morning... who knew?  Yes you can teach an old dog new tricks :) Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday at 9am ET.  As for my two new friends... thank you for the best doctor's office visit ever.

Re-Introducing Marilyn Torres!!!

I am so happy to re-introduce to you, Marilyn Torres!!!

About 7 years ago, I was on the search for someone to assist me both on air and behind the scenes. After reviewing tape after tape of candidates, I came across someone I was particularly intrigued with, Marilyn Torres. With a sweet smile and a kind face, what interested me most was her creativity. Instead of the typical "hard sell", she was very relaxed and spoke about her passion for her favorite shoe! Yes, a woman after my heart!  With her fashionable yet relaxed sense of style and sweet personality, Marilyn was the person I felt most confident in to represent both me and my brand.

Marilyn has been with me for many years now and you may have caught her on QVC in the wee hours of the morning. Whenever I cannot make a show, Marilyn is there to come to the rescue!

Over the years, not only has my line evolved, so has Marilyn's role. As my Image Director, she is behind the scenes of every Susan Graver show working with the QVC stylist to ensure that every bracelet, scarf, and earring is in place and embodies my vision of the Susan Graver brand.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, this Pennsylvania beauty has a classic with a modern twist style and she believes, (just like me) that you can never have too many shoes! When she's not at the Q she loves more than anything spending time with her husband Don and their 3 1/2 year old daughter, Gabriella.

We have so much fun together and I am so happy to re-introduce Marilyn Torres to you!

Have you seen Marilyn on air? How would you describe your personal style? Please share!

I hope you can join me - Thursday, June 13th at 9am ET - Friday, June 14th at 10am ET - and Sunday, June 16th at 7am ET and 10pm ET - for fabulous summer fashion!!!

xoxo,

Susan

Like Father, Like Daughter

Last week was my oldest daughter, Cara’s, end of year performance. Dancers prep their pointe shoes to be perfect on performance day and they can run through them like hotcakes.  One professional ballerina danced in over 2500 pairs of shoes in a season! So, the day before the show her perfectly prepped shoes ripped, and a new pair was nowhere to be found, backordered till the end of June.  I thought of what my Dad, my “Rudy”, would do. Since his father was a shoemaker, my Dad repaired our shoes and when I started dancing he even worked on those! And it was something I hadn’t thought of in years, running down the basement to his desk, (he had a man cave in the 1970’s!) and handing him pointe shoes that needed to be fixed.  In fact, my Dad was the one who looked for a professional ballet school for me when I was nine, and he was the one who spent countless hours to pick me up in the city at night to drive back home. I danced six days a week in Philadelphia and lived in the suburbs, so seeing him in the car every night at 8 or 9 was my welcome home each day. Now, as I am waiting for the girls to be finished a class or performance, I feel like he’s sitting by my side.

So back to Cara’s shoes!  We have ripped shoes, a performance looming and no new shoes available. So I thought, Rudy would sew them and glue them and they would look like new. So I took a deep breath and got out my sewing kit and started carefully sewing her shoes. Off Cara went to dress rehearsal and then a flawless performance! After a big hug I asked her how were the shoes? Perfect!

They say you marry your Dad. So the other day I told Sean, as once again he was off to pick up one of our dancers (Little sis dances too!) that he reminded me of my Dad; patiently waiting for ballet class or auditions to be over, helping a little girl’s dream come true!

Happy Father’s Day.

Wear it Well Wednesday…Ask Margaux! Up This Week: Dressing for Travel

0

Where are you headed this summer? Is it a family vacation? Beach vacation? Somewhere adventurous? How are you traveling? By car, plane, or train? Whatever the case, you want to be looking good and comfortable, right?

I am traveling up to New York City today to meet with the Bob Mackie Design Team. I do this every other month to see what is happening in the design studio for the upcoming season. It's always very exciting because I get to see what Bob's newest creations are. It's like going to an art opening!

My journey requires comfort, flexibility, and looking good. That is what inspired my blog to you today. So often in the past, I have not thought those requirements out carefully and found myself regretting what I decided to wear. Today I chose wisely: a nice comfortable capri pant, a knit top, and a cute pair of sandals. The day is sunny, but not too blistering hot, so it's a nice day to walk.

I find the best clothes for travel are knits. They don't wrinkle very easily, and they move with you. If you are sitting anywhere for a long period of time, a knit pant won't irritate you. And here's a tip: when you pack, roll your items instead of folding. They will arrive with much less creasing.

Here are some great choices from Bob Mackie's line for dressing comfortably and chic. My pick for the top is a no-brainer! Just imagine how eye-catching this will be for you. It practically shouts 'vacation'…

Especially in this color of green. It also comes in charcoal, red and blue. It's Bob Mackie's 3/4 Sleeve Boca Raton Printed Top with Tie Hem. It's a vibrant print with a banded hem and a side-tie detail, which make this one a true vacation from our typical wardrobe basics. No one can speak better than the other ladies wearing it…it's Customer Top Rated! Check out the reviews on QVC.com.

Now, for the bottom...well, it depends on your mood, the time of day, and where you're headed, right? Any of these knit bottom silhouettes will be dynamite. They are all from Bob’s collection:

These are Bob’s best-selling wide-leg knit pants, which are similar to palazzo pants. Love these! They are offered in petite and regularlengths in an array of colors.

If you are feeling a little more sassy, slip into Bob's Ponte Knit Pull-On Slim Leg Pants, which are also offered in petite and regular lengths. These pants are too cute for words, and, with a little sandal, you'll be set for the boardwalk!

This is the style I have on today: Bob's Ponte Knit Elastic Waist Crop Pant with Button Accent. I love to show off a little leg, especially once I have some tan to my skin. This is a bottom that can be dressed up with the right top or worn more casually with a tee shirt.

No matter the case, you're all set with a ready-to-go set for any travel ensemble. Let me know where your travels are taking you this summer...we love to live vicariously through our Mackinistas!!!

Best,

Margaux

What's Your Favorite Fish to Grill?

0
0

With two recent downpours and the humidity rising, summer feels like it is in full swing here in Pennsylvania. That means we're all getting outside to grill (when it's not raining, that is). You may have seen me on the air recently selling fresh fish from Anderson Seafoods, and I have to say that fish is one of my favorite things to grill.

The beauty of grilling is that it is quick and easy, and there is no pot or pan to clean up at the end (unless you use a grilling tool like a basket). The great thing about grilling fish is that the quick cooking helps prevent drying out the fish, keeping it moist and delicious. The true secret to delicious fish meals is simple: get the best quality fish you can and do as little to it as possible. That's where the fish from Anderson Seafoods comes in. Their fish is as fresh as you can buy AND it comes right to your door. You can't get much better than that unless there is a dock or pier in your neighborhood and you're friends with some fishermen! When I say that Anderson Seafoods is fresh fish, I mean that it has never once been frozen. It is caught especially for you, cut into portions especially for you and shipped right to you. Sure, you can freeze it when you get it home if you're not quite ready for the fabulous fish meal, and the quality will be just as good because you will be the first to freeze it and it arrives in vacuum-sealed portioned packages.

I just love Anderson Seafoods' fish, from their Scottish salmon, to their wild caught Pacific Rockfish, to the perfect-grilling Albacore Tuna. Whenever I cook it, I can't believe how lucky I am to be enjoying fish this fresh. Next up on our menu is the Pacific Canadian Chinook Salmon and I can't wait to share it with you. Of course, being Canadian myself, I'm very partial to this salmon. The fish is delicious and I've been enjoying it every way possible - raw in a ceviche dish (yes, it's that fresh), oven roasted with a lemon cream sauce, off the grill with an orange mint salsa.  It's not just the delicious flavor and texture of the fish that I love; I actually love the name too. Chinook Salmon is the largest of the Pacific salmon species and is also known as King Salmon. I prefer "Chinook" however, because the word "Chinook" means a lot to me. Growing up in Calgary, Alberta, the nearest shopping center to my house was called "Chinook Center".  When we got an unusually warm spell of weather in the middle of winter, it was because of a "Chinook Wind", which could melt a foot of snow in a day before the temperatures plummeted again. Chinook may sound strange to you, but it's part of a 6-year old vocabulary where I come from.

I'm looking into getting a new backyard grill - a charcoal grill for the best flavor - and guess what will be one of the first things I grill.  You got it... Chinook Salmon.  In the meantime, let's put an end to all this rain!

What type of fish is your favorite to grill?  Shoot me your best fish grilling recipe ideas!

Sweet Relief

Getting out of an uncomfortable bra at the end of a long day is sweet relief for many of us. That’s part of the reason Stella Riches created the Genie Bra. She just knew there had to be something more comfortable. She also wanted to create a bra that gave seamless support and a flattering shape.

I don’t mind sharing that I’m a 38DD and my “girls” need support. There are definitely times when I want the structure of an underwire, but when I want comfort and soft support, the Genie Bra is great.

Since its debut, over four million Genie Bras have been ordered from QVC. That’s a lot of bras -- that’s a lot of comfort!

Summer is when everything is a little more laid-back and easy and your summer bra can be easy too. Whether you’re in a casual t-shirt, a crisp button down, or a simple summer dress, you’ll hardly know you’re wearing a bra, but you will look and feel great.

So, if the first thing you do at the end of a long day is get out of your uncomfortable bra, you might just love the Genie. Tonight at midnight we’ll have our best value set yet!

"See" you then!

Leah

The Wrinkle Fighters TSV

Hi, QVC fans, Dr. Gross here. I was sitting in my office between patients recently, thinking about all of you and my time on QVC. I wanted to come up with a special way to thank you for letting me into your lives and believing in my products. I wish that time allowed for me to treat all of you personally in my medical practice in Manhattan–but until that happens, I created something for you that each one of my patients take home.

To help fight aging skin, there are three things you can do: exfoliate and remove dead skin cells, use a powerful serum with the best skincare technology to address aging, and apply an eye product that tackles the entire eye area, including the eyelid. That's why I prescribe all of my patients the Alpha Beta Peel, Ferulic Acid + Retinol Brightening Solution, and Ferulic + Retinol Triple Correction Eye Serum. I wanted you to receive these same three products, so I put together a QVC kit, The Wrinkle Fighters, for my TSV(R).

The Wrinkle Fighters

In a consumer-use study after 14 days, participants saw:

  • 90.6% younger-looking skin with Ferulic Acid + Retinol Brightening Solution.
  • 92.9% improvement in texture around the eye area with Ferulic + Retinol Triple Correction Eye Serum.
  • 100% agreed the Alpha Beta Peel was gentle on their skin and easily fit into their regular beauty routine.

This set is an easy addition to any skin-care routine, and I hope you'll enjoy the results as much as I enjoy sharing it with you. Tell me: what bothers you most about the aging process?

Vicenza This Weekend! Get a Sneak-Peek of Lisa's Fair Favorites

Ciao! I’m back in Italy for Vicenza this weekend. (I love my job!) Join me Friday night at 11pm ET and then tune in Saturday for a full day of some of the most beautiful jewelry you’ve ever seen. Here are a few more “behind-the-scenes” pictures of our meetings at the fair. See anything you like?

It takes a village to choose the exact pieces that are going to be "Fresh from the Fair." Our team works with our Italian partners to find the right pieces.

Typical questions for a piece of jewelry:

  • "What is the weight on this?"
  • "What is the labor?"
  • "How many colors does the factory do in this?"
  • "What metals does this factory work in?"
  • "What is the "Lead Time" on this item?"
  • "Can we change the clasp?"

What a shock, I’m looking at watches again!

Looking at a few options for "Argento Nuovo". The new silver line debuting in the remote.

Here's the man of the hour: David Markstein. I love working with this guy. He's so passionate about the business. He also treats me as a partner in the business, which is something I value greatly.

You can also shop some of the pieces early! And, you may recognize some from my Facebook and blog pictures. See you Friday at 11pm ET.

We’re about a week into our month-long trip to QVC promoting gallons of WEN Cleansing Conditioner, and it’s been a whirlwind of hair prep, color, and shows. Luckily, Hunter, Spencer, and Ella are here to help keep us company and everyone’s energy up.

With all the attention on gallons, we wanted to point out a couple of really exciting new products that we're also in the process of launching: our new WEN Six Thirteen Ultra-Nourishing Mousse and Styling Creme. The styling creme is available now at Featured Price, and the mousse launches on QVC June 13 and is sure to be a hit. Ever since we created the WEN Six Thirteen Ultra-Nourishing Daily Cleansing Treatment, you've been asking us to add some great styling products to the line, and we heard you loud and clear.

Both new styling products took more than a year to develop and test because we wanted to make sure they were as amazing as the cleanser. The mousse and styling creme contain the amino-acid complex WEN Six Thirteen is famous for, so you know they'll help nourish and strengthen hair while providing frizz control and styling performance. We’ve got a lot more planned for the line, but these two products will give you the foundation you need to cleanse and style with WEN Six Thirteen.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more shows and especially more blogs. Next week, Team WEN leaves on a mini vacation, so keep an eye on our Facebook page at facebook.com/wenbychazdean. We’ll try to post some shots of Chaz and the team having a little fun before they head back to QVC.

Happy Friday! I'm back for round two of TQIF and I have to say, I've become somewhat of a smoothie connoisseur. I made this for breakfast this week and while the color wasn't the prettiest, it was quite delicious!

I love my Vitamix and trying to concoctions, especially smoothies!

Here's the recipe:

3/4 cup water

1 apple (any kind)

1 banana

1 cup frozen blueberries

1cup frozen strawberries ( I put 6 in here) 2tbs chia seeds

2 handfuls of chopped kale

A few cubes of ice

Now that the weather is getting warmer, it's even more fun to make drinks in my Vitamix. Do you have an favorite frozen drinks? Don't forget, all drink makers are on EZ Pay Friday - Sunday this summer. It's our way of saying ThankQ :)

This week I posted pics of my new love...my Aimee Kestenberg bag!

She goes with me everywhere. And I won't lie; this one piece makes me feel like a fashionista no matter what I wear! Here's me and my Gabbers hanging out at the mall with her. No Gabby, I don't plan on bequeathing her to you for quite a while!!

Showing my purse-onality at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas at the JCK show! She didn't mind me sneaking a selfie in the background too...

Gabby, Kim and I had a blast in the mall photo booth...note the bag we're fighting over in the upper right??

She literally goes with me everywhere..I keep all my show cards in this bag, so she's with me while I study too!

Lunch, notebook, phone, lipgloss. Check! My Kestenberg bag has everything I need for a day full of meetings at the Q..

My Kestenberg bag + watermelon sorbet= sweet summery goodness!

This purse makes me feel so stylish when I carry it. I love to take it to work becauseit fits my planner, cell phone, and dozen lipglosses that I can't live without! It looks best with all my casual outfits because it instantly elevates the look. Overall, this purse fits into my fashion-conscious life because it does all the work for me!

"My Father" by his Twinkie

Every year that Father's Day comes up - it's a bittersweet time.  Now that I'm married - we celebrate my husband being a father.  Our daughter Theresa has her daddy wrapped around her little  finger - but she only uses her "power" when she wants a Popsicle or a small stuffed animal!

This year will be the 2nd Father's Day without my dear Father In Law - Jim ... and the 19th year without my father - Jack.

I called my father Papa - he called me Twinkie.  Yes, I was daddy's little girl.  The youngest of his 7 children.

He was a doctor in Albuquerque - the old fashioned type that still made house calls.  He also would provide medical services for those who couldn't afford care or didn't have insurance - and he would often receive gifts of thanks like quilts or home made food.  When I was little I loved making "rounds" with him at the hospitals and nursing homes.  The patients and the nurses would light up when they saw "Dr. Jack" coming to visit!  My fathers nickname was Motormouth Sr. and I'm Motormouth Jr. - so there was no shortage of conversation from either of us!

His office was my favorite place for adventure!  While he'd catch up on paperwork - I'd restock the tongue depressors, cotton swabs and band-aids.  I loved it!  Of course I knew where my dad had the best stuff hidden in his office - in the refrigerator!  That's where he kept the supply of the classic loop handle Saf-T lollipops he gave to his patients who were children.  What great memories!

During his years as a doctor my father delivered over 3,000 babies into this world.  Yes - over 3,000!!!  He even had a few families where he delivered 3 generations!

One of the biggest impacts my father made on me and many others was about Skin Cancer.  My father founded the New Mexico Skin Cancer Project in 1977.  My mother and I became accustomed to my father walking up to strangers - and asking them if they had a suspicious spot on their body examined by a doctor recently.  He would pull out what he called his "Spy Glass" (magnifying lens) and give them a quick examination.  He'd then reach into his shirt pocket for the paper and pen he called his "Brains" to write down their information if they wanted my father to follow up with their doctor.  My dad taught me at an early age the importance of sunscreen and staying of the sun.  He also taught me how to take his skill of walking up to strangers with a suspicious looking spot - and encourage them to have their doctor check it out.  It's funny, but when I see someone that I knew my dad would walk up to - I have this overwhelming urge to go up to them!  It's like my father is sending me a message from Heaven - saying "Well, what are you waiting for - go talk to them!".  He taught me to tell people to always have their skin examined by their doctor or dermatologist every year.  AND - always check for any mole or freckle that: 1. Changes size 2. Changes color 3. Changes shape 4. Changes texture or 5. Grows a new mole/freckle.  (Ok - go check yourself after this blog - do you promise?)

My dad was also a huge fan of "The Wheel Of Fortune" - so huge that he auditioned and became a contestant in 1985.  In fact the date was Friday the 13th - September 13, 1985.  How do I remember the exact date?  He called from Los Angeles that night and said to me "Don't ever go on a game show on a Friday the 13th .......... or you'll win a car!!!" I screamed and twirled around in our enormous kitchen telephone cord with excitement!

My dad was my hero - and he still is.  I wish more than ever he could have met my husband - and my heart aches wishing that he could have been here with his grand daughter.

But the one thing I that does put a smile on my face - knowing that in Heaven - my poppa and my father-in-law have probably not stopped talking to each other!  They both loved silly, corny jokes - and with them both being Irish - they're probably enjoying a Pint together!  It actually makes me laugh because the two of them were such characters!

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers and men who have impacted our lives.

Happy Father's Day to my husband - you are an amazing father!!!  We love you!

Happy Father's Day to my Father-In-Law Jim in Heaven who we miss dearly.

And Happy Father's Day Papa - who I miss with all my heart just as much today just as much as I did when we lost you in 1994.  I love you and I hope that I'm making you proud.

Love,

Twinkie

I Love Summertime!!!

My flower garden and perennial herb gardens are thriving.  The hummingbirds are loving the honeysuckle, the brook is raging, and the lake is calm.  What more can a Summer bring?

I just bought myself a birthday present of a water trampoline for our lake retreat where the family enjoys spending time together.  It was sort of a bribe to encourage my grandkids to learn how to swim, and it worked!

Going to our cottage (only about one half hour from home) gives me the tranquility and peace to calmly design and be surrounded by water (no surprise there considering that water is one of my main influences).  Summer is short in Vermont, so we try to take advantage of every nice day.

I am looking forward to my various appearances on QVC on June 19th and 20th.  Taxco Traditions by Dominique Dinouart will be on June 20th from 6 - 8PM EST.  Once again I am thrilled to be appearing with the incomparable Antonella!  I will also make appearances on the Global Artisan-Crafted Silver Jewelry shows on June 19th, from 1 - 3AM EST and 11PM - 12AM EST, as well as June 20th from 8 - 9PM EST.  I hope you can join me for all of those shows!

I am bringing you new designs incorporating some of your favorite stone choices.

For you lovers of the turquoise vine pieces, please see my new collar!

I just can’t stay away from the marvelous Taxco hammering!  I think these earrings incorporate that very well, and of course, incorporate my water theme.

And this dramatic contemporary cuff is available in both average and large sizes.

I am very excited about these shows which will highlight many new designs as well as some of your old favorites.  For example, J31081 in pink opal is back in stock!!

Peace,

Dominique

First Father's Day

Wow!  Time sure does fly!  It’s been five months since I gave birth to my daughter Jericho yet it feels like just yesterday we brought her home from the hospital for the first time.  Speaking of firsts, this weekend will be my husband’s first Father’s Day.  Judson has always wanted children and there was no question he would be a great dad.

Before Jericho was even born my husband was so excited to put together her crib and paint her nursery.  He was also very patient and attentive to me while I was pregnant (although I could have used a lot more foot rubs!).  I give him props for putting up with me during my pregnancy.  I could go from hot to cold in an instant and he would just roll with the punches. There are still some days when I am so tired and sleep deprived I am not very pleasant to be around but lucky girl that I am my husband still loves me enough to put up with my moody episodes.

Judson is very hands on with the baby.  He changes diapers, gives baths, dresses her, combs her hair, feeds her and showers her with affection.  Judson often acts as both mom and dad on days when I am working or sleeping in.  That is probably why Jericho is already such a daddy’s girl.  When Juddy walks into the room she will smile the biggest smile ever.  She is so crazy about her daddy that she’s even cried when he’s left the room (she’s never cried over me!) At the same time Coco already has her father wrapped around her little teeny, tiny baby finger. She enjoys music and loves when her daddy sings to her.  She even seems to like when I sing to her and I can’t hold a tune!  She also loves to touch her daddy’s face and grab his nose.   Almost every day my husband will stop and say “Can you believe it? We have a daughter, yo!”

Having a child has changed our lives forever.  We both now see the world through Jericho’s eyes.  We often find ourselves saying “Jericho will love this” or “I can’t wait to bring Jericho here.”  Even something as simple as tasting food for the first time has us giddy with anticipation.  I love when Judson says he wants to take Jericho to an Orioles baseball game or teach her how to play golf when she gets older.  I can’t wait to take her to Disneyworld or to see the circus.  There are so many things we want to share with her but right now we are more than happy to share our love with her.   This Father’s Day there is nothing I could buy or give my husband that would make him any happier than his daughter.  (Okay maybe a Ferrari but that ain’t happening!)

So to my husband, my own father (I love you pop!) and all the dad’s this Sunday, I say Happy Father’s Day!
