Hi, ladies!

It's Heather from the design team. I hope everyone is enjoying the start of fall. I've been enjoying some time at home with my new baby girl, Ella Grace, these past few weeks!  And I've missed chatting with you.

I'm happy to be here today to chat with you about our great new TSV today.  The whole team is so excited!  They are one of my favorites: jeans!  A girl can never have too many pairs of jeans!

Today's jeans are a great go-to 5 pocket basic in a great stretch denim. They are available in classic denim shades and some great fall colors.   What draws you to a pair of jeans?  The styling, fabric, fit, color, or details?  The whole team would love to hear from you.

If you have any questions or comments or just want to chat, I'll be checking in through out the day today.  Talk to you soon!

It’s Craft Time! How-to Make a DIY Framed Menu & Natural Room Scents

$

This just might be the most exciting week ever! Okay—I might be getting a little carried away, but instead of one episode of You’re Home with Jill, we’ve got two shows this week! The first airs Wednesday at 7pm as usual; the other airs on Thursday at 3pm ET. So that means you get double the recipes and double the  DIY projects…both of which you can make this weekend, if you’ve got some time to hone your craft. :)

First, let’s make the DIY Framed Menu.

DIY Framed Menu

This idea comes courtesy of Jessica and Mandy of Little Birdie Secrets! (Thank you, girls!) These clever crafters are from the Pacific Northwest and blog about everything from quilting to crocheting to silhouette projects (that is, things you can do with a digital cutting machine.) Now, I haven’t gotten into lettering too much, but I saw their idea for this menu board and had to make one of my own.

Here’s what you need:
•    12” x 12” picture frame (with a glass front)
•    Decorative scrapbook paper (sized to fit)
•    Dry-erase marker

And here’s how you put it together:
•    Remove the back of the frame (or whatever you need to do to insert the paper).
•    Place the scrapbook paper inside and reassemble the frame.
•    If you know how to make vinyl lettering, do so for each day of the week. If not, just write out the days on the board (like I did!)
•    Then, fill in your recipes. That’s it!

I made a special spot in my kitchen for this frame and I try to get everyone’s requests every Sunday (when I plan and write things out). On nights when I’m working or it’s just not possible to all be together, I’ll write “free” or “leftovers.” Do whatever works for you and your family. For us, it's not just about the food. Seeing the recipes in writing reminds us that family time is guaranteed at the end of a long day. And, that's the greatest gift of all.

Since our theme on YHJ this week is “company’s coming,” might I also suggest you use this menu for your guests’ benefit. If you’re making breakfast, lunch, and dinner, give them the daily menu in detail. Or, if you’re just making dinner, list the appetizer, entrée, drinks, and dessert. Get creative! Have fun! A damp paper towel gives you a clean slate.

Now that you’ve given dinner some thought, how about the rest of the house. Wouldn’t it be nice to fill your home with a clean, citrusy aroma?

If you haven’t found out about The Yummy Life yet, you’ve now just found your favorite blog. Monica (the blogger) has the definition of “yummy” down to a science, because every recipe she posts is just downright mouthwatering. BUT—recently, Monica posted a blog with recipes for natural room scents and I made two citrusy combinations...one with oranges and fall spices; the other with oranges and fresh ginger!

Here’s what you’ll need to make these (add more or less of each ingredient, as desired):

First jar:
•    2 oranges, sliced
•    2-3 cinnamon sticks
•    Handful of whole cloves
•    4-5 pieces of star anise
•    2-3 cup mason jar

Second jar:
•    2 oranges, sliced
•    7-8 slices fresh ginger
•    Pinch of almond extract
•    2-3 cup mason jar

To assemble the jars…
•    Fill your mason jars with the fruit, spices, and water.
•    Pour the ingredients out of the jar and into a sauce pan.
•    Bring the mixture to a boil and reduce the heat to a simmer. (By now your house will start to smell wonderful!)
•    Simmer for a few minutes, replenishing water as needed, and then pour the mixture back into the jar.
•    Move the jar to the room of your choice and leave it uncovered. As long as it’s warm, it will continue to release a mild fragrance.
•    To get a more intense fragrance, heat the mixture again (either on the stove or in the microwave) and place the jar on a candle or mug warmer.

There are lots of ways to heat these scents in order to extract the delicious fragrance. And, there are three other fragrance combinations in Monica's blog you must try. Happy fragrancing!

There you have it! You are SO ready to entertain guests for the weekend. What’s on your menu? What citrusy scents might you try? I’d love to hear your thoughts! I’ll see you for YHJ on Wednesday at 7pm ET and then on Thursday at 3pm ET. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

From my home to yours,
—Jill

Time for Fall Cooking

I spent last week up in Canada, which is always ahead of the curve when it comes to the arrival of autumn. I spend a lot of my time in Kingston, Ontario where spring usually appears a month later, and fall arrives a month sooner than in Philadelphia, my other home. Last week, I arrived in Kingston wearing capri pants and sandals but didn’t put them back on the entire visit! I was back to blue jeans (of course), socks and heavy sweatshirts. So, having had a week of cooler weather up in Canada, I’m really in the mood to start fall cooking again; making chilies, braises, roasts and simultaneously making the house smell fantastic and welcoming!

I’ve been doing a lot of entertaining lately, and I plan to do a lot more in the coming months with the year’s biggest food holidays just ahead. Just last Thursday, I had friends over in Canada and made a sticky toffee pudding for them that had them ooh-ing and ahh-ing. What I didn’t tell them was how easy it was to make! I did the whole thing in the Technique hard anodized 4-quart sauté pan and the 1½-quart saucepan! I won’t keep it a secret from you, however! You can find the recipe here.

Sticky Toffee Pudding

The other beautiful thing about this dessert was that it was also super easy to clean up afterwards. Even that sticky toffee sauce came out of the saucepan without any trouble!

I don’t usually use a 4-quart sauté pan for dessert making, however. I normally use it for sautéing or braising. My friend, Jill Bauer, showed me a new recipe where she did both in the 4-quart to make a delicious chicken dish. She started by sautéing some vegetables in the pan, searing the chicken, topping the chicken with the veggies and then braising it a little with some chicken stock. She finished it with goat cheese and pepper jelly on top and it worked perfectly! You can see her making this delicious chicken in her show, You’re Home with Jill. It was so tasty and it’s a recipe I’ll keep and make again and again.  I love getting new recipes from friends, and I LOVE it when people cook for me!

Tune in all day on Wednesday, September 25th to see what I’ll be cooking in the 11-piece set of Technique Colorsmart Hard Anodized Cookware. I’ll promise you a look at the easiest mac-and-cheese recipe ever, a 12-inch chocolate chip cookie and some sticky toffee pudding!  All these recipes and more can be found here. And make sure you don’t miss the full hour of Technique at 10am ET. I’m zooming in on comfort foods and time-saving tips all hour long!

See you then,

Mom Monday: 5 Fall Beauty Products for Moms

$

Happy Mom Monday!  I’m Jessica, editor of Love For Lacquer and mom to my sweet 3-year-old boy Rylan.  Summer has officially come to an end and it's time to switch up your makeup routine! Whether you're a mom on the go, stay at home mom like myself or even if you're not a mom, these are some of my top beauty picks for fall that are easy to use when you don't have much time and are always running around.

tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation with Brush - If I want a full coverage foundation, this is usually the one I turn to. It gives me flawless coverage especially when I use the airbrush finish foundation brush that you get along with it. It works for all skin types whether you're dry, oily or combo. I actually own two of these brushes just because they are that amazing!

tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Concealer On the days when Rylan wakes me up at the crack of dawn, this is what I turn to to erase those dark circles under my eyes. I LOVE the fact that this also comes with a double ended concealer brush as well. One side is perfect for applying and the other side blends it out evenly. It covers amazingly and leaves my under eyes hydrated. Definitely a must have!

It Cosmetics Vitality Cheek Blush in Matte Sweet Apple -  It Cosmetics has become one of my new obsessions lately and their blushes are to die for. I only own one for now but you better believe I will be snagging the rest of the colors they offer! They are so soft and creamy and highly pigmented.

bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow Quads - I think it's important that you can create an entire look using one eyeshadow palette. When you're on the go or running late, you don't have time to look through 4 or 5 palettes and come up with an entire look. And that's exactly what I love about the bareMinerals Ready Quads. All of the shadows in the quad go together making it incredibly easy to work with. I chose “The Truth” quad because it is perfect for 'easy eyes' - you can sweep on two or three colors (Or heck even just one!) and be out the door in no time.

tarte LipSurgence Lip Stain -  This is hands down one of the BEST products from tarte. If you're a fan of any of the jumbo balm stains, you will love these! I have tons and cannot get enough. They come in so many different colors & finishes and soften and moisturize your lips. I chose the color 'perky' for my top pick because I felt like anyone could wear it and it's such an easy everyday color.

I hope you enjoyed my five fall beauty picks for mom's or anyone on the go! One more thing I wanted to mention was that ALL of these products are Customer Choice Beauty Award Nominees so if you have any of these products I’d love to hear your thoughts!  Leave a comment sharing your must-have beauty product for fall.

Raisin-Filled Cookies this Sunday! What Do You Love Most About Christmas?

Hello, foodies…

What do you love most about Christmas? Is it the energy of the season? Is it the interactions you have with friends and loved ones? Is it the festive food and drink? Maybe the Christmas carols? For me, it’s everything. And, for all of those reasons, I look forward to Christmas all year long. That’s why I’m excited for In the Kitchen with David this Sunday.

Believe it or not, we’re just three months away from the biggest holiday of the year, foodies. And, once again, QVC is helping you get ready with a 24-hour Joy of Christmas event. It all starts at Midnight on Sunday. Join me Noon ET for the best part of your holiday planning…the food and entertaining! Even my recipe this weekend is sure to bring you a little early comfort and joy.

Raisin Filled Cookies

Raisin-Filled Cookies

This recipe is prepared with the Cook's Essentials® 5-Speed Hand Mixer  (K35593).

Go to David's Recipe Item Page for the full list of items that David has used in his recipes.

Ingredients:

Raisin Filling:

  • 1-1/4 cup dark raisins
  • 1/3 cup walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1-1/2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/3 cup apple jelly

Cookie Dough:

  • 2-1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 oz unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1-1/2 Tbsp milk

Directions:

1. To prepare the filling, add the filling ingredients to a medium-size bowl and mix with a spatula until evenly incorporated. Place the mixture into an airtight container and refrigerate for 8 hours, or overnight.

2. To prepare the cookie dough, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. With a stand or hand mixer, cream the butter, cream cheese, and both sugars. Add the egg and vanilla and mix until incorporated. Add the flour mixture in two batches, alternating with the milk.

3. Remove the dough from mixing bowl and form it into a disc. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 6 hours, or overnight.

4. To bake the cookies, preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the now-chilled dough until it's 1/8" thick. Lightly flour two round cookie cutters, one 2-1/2" and one 3". Press them into the dough to shape your cookies.

6. Place the 2-1/2" cut circles onto the prepared cookie sheets. Spoon one heaping Tbsp of the filling and place it in the middle of each circle. With a little bit of water, lightly wet the edges of the cookie with your fingers. Top each with a 3" round cutout. Seal the edges together, pressing with your fingers and cut a small slit right over the filling of each cookie.

7. Bake for 14–16 minutes, or until lightly browned. Move the cookies to cooling racks.

And now, Raisin Filled Cookies in step-by-step photos. (I suggest you get a snack!)

Make the filling first. So, add the dark raisins, walnuts, cinnamon, sugar, and apple jelly in a medium-size bowl.

Mix well and refrigerate for eight hours, or overnight. (Similar raisin-filled cookie recipes require you to cook the filling, in order to achieve a jelly-like consistency. But, we decided to skip the cooking step altogether. Thanks to magic ingredients in the apple jelly, the granulated sugar will liquefy in the fridge, giving your filling the perfect consistency.)

Right after you make the filling, prepare the dough, as it too, should rest for about 6 hours, or overnight, because it’s so buttery and soft. You’ll never be able to roll the dough out unless it rests in the fridge. (Trust me!) So, start by combining the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Cream the butter, cream cheese, and both sugars.

That’s the consistency you want!

Add the egg and vanilla and mix until incorporated.

Add the flour mixture in two batches, alternating with the milk.

Remove the dough from mixing bowl and form it into a disc. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 6 hours, or overnight.

When you’re ready to bake the cookies, preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper and set aside. Then, on a lightly floured surface as pictured, roll out the now-chilled dough until it's 1/8" thick.

Lightly flour two round cookie cutters, one 2-1/2" and one 3". Press them into the dough to shape your cookies.

Place the 2-1/2" cut circles onto the prepared cookie sheets.

Spoon one heaping Tbsp of the filling and place it in the middle of each circle.

With a little bit of water, lightly wet the edges of the cookie with your fingers. (You can also use a pastry brush, as brushes hold more water.)

Top each with a 3" round cutout. Seal the edges together, pressing with your fingers and cut a small slit right over the filling of each cookie.

Bake for 14–16 minutes, or until lightly browned. Move the cookies to cooling racks. (While it's difficult to let them cool, you must. That filling is piping hot and you'll burn your tongue. Yep--I know from experience.)

Raisin-Filled Cookies

These are sure to be a hit at any holiday party. But, I expect you’ll want to do a practice run, right? Raisins are a delicious fall food. Halloween is next month, then comes Thanksgiving…happy baking!

I’ll see you on Sunday at Noon ET, foodies. Don’t forget to answer my blog Christmas question...it was the first thing you read, remember?

Keep it flavorful!
—David

P.S. Guess what!? I’m going to be on Bethenny this Tuesday! Check your local listings to see when the show airs…here in the Philly area, it’s on Fox 29 at 11am. I hope you’ll tune in!

Fun with Sarah Potempa at New York Fashion Week!

Hi! It’s Naomi back with more exciting backstage fun from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week! In case you missed my first blog I was lucky enough to travel to Fashion Week in New York and hang with some of QVC’s most amazing beauty vendors last week and had to share some of the excitement with you!

My first day in the city was a whirlwind, and as soon as I got out of the cab at Lincoln Center I ran to meet up with my friend Sarah PotempaShe invited me to join her at the Richard Chai fashion show at Lincoln Center and I couldn’t have been more excited for my first show of the week.

Of course I arrived with beachy waves thanks to my BEACHWAVER.  These were done around 6am that morning and I love how they still look pretty good even after hours of travel!

One of the highlights of the show was bumping into Eva Chen, the newly-minted Editor-in-Chief of Lucky, one of our favorite magazines!

Ironically, Eva came up to me as we were taking photos of the Jonas Brothers, who were sitting from row at the show.  She wanted to make sure she knew what all the excitement was about! They were surrounded by photographers! She also recognized Sarah, who had done her hair for a photo shoot recently.

On Friday night, Sarah swung by our live remote broadcast in Bryant Park and joined Courtney Cason on air for more fun. Hope you were able to tune in!

Hi girls!

On Saturday night, I met up with Sarah’s team again backstage at Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show!  Sarah’s team styled the models with beachy waves for the show, and theme of the event was “empowering women inspiring change.” It was so fun to be backstage and chat with the ladies in the show, especially because most of them were not professional models and they were all so genuinely excited and couldn’t stop raving about their hair!  All of the moms loved the BEACHWAVER so much!  As someone who personally uses it at least a few times a week, I was so happy to walk around and share how it has literally changed my life. It’s hands down one of the best beauty products I’ve ever discovered at the Q!

On my last day at Fashion Week, Courtney and I joined Sarah and her teammate Marisa at the Dennis Basso show!

Sarah & Marisa came to my hotel before the Dennis Basso show and I was lucky enough to have Sarah create this incredible fishtail in my hair. I loved it so much I didn’t want to take it out!

Here we are after the show. Seeing Dennis in all his glory was amazing and his designs were so colorful and fun!

I’m so thankful to Sarah & her team for allowing us to join her all week at these different events.  She’s so incredibly talented and such a hard-working mom—I’m so inspired by how she balances her family and her incredible career and hope you enjoyed taking a peek at our time together in New York!

Backstage at New York Fashion Week with stila cosmetics!

So we’ve gone backstage with Mally and spent some time with Sarah Potempa, and now it’s time to go backstage again, this time with the incredible team from stila cosmetics!  We were beyond lucky to be invited backstage at the Rebecca Minkoff show to watch the stila team in action.  Rebecca Minkoff also happens to be one of my favorite designers, so needless to say I was just a little excited to be backstage before her show!

It was also such a thrill to watch Sarah Lucero, Pro Artist for stila—and one of the most talented and in-demand makeup artists in the industry!—creating these gorgeous looks for Rebecca’s show.

The look for the show had a distinct Mexican vibe, with braided hairstyles inspired by Frida Kahlo. There were tons of textures and patterns and florals, too. I especially loved the adorable manicures the models were sporting, which were girlie orange-pink with a “Day of the Dead” skull design on one of their nails as an accent.  Sarah also shared with us that one of the keys to the beauty look was “brows that wow!”  One of the tips she shared during the show? Hold your eyebrow pencil by the very end.  This will give you a light touch and create a wispy look when you apply. So smart!

I even snuck away to get a sneak peek at some of the fun pieces she designed and I feel in love with her colorful print heels!  I felt like a kid in a candy store!

Here’s a peek at the full look Sarah & her team created just for the show.  Another one of the great tips Sarah shared backstage was to apply concealer at the end of your makeup routine so it finishes the look and is the last touch in covering everything up after you’ve applied eyeshadow, etc.  I love this tip!

Sarah also took the time to show me stila’s new CC Color Correcting Cream and I was blown away!  It is available in 6 shades but comes out of the tube in a light green color and then adjusts to your skin tone. She used it on all of the models to even out their skin tone and it gave them all such a pretty glow. I actually just received my tube from QVC today and although I haven’t tried it yet (I’m going to finish up the tube of stila BB cream I’m using now) I can’t wait to use this product that feels straight off the runway!

Immediately after the show (literally—they were planning the travel up to the last minute while we were backstage!), Sarah & her team hopped in a car to head to QVC Studio Park to debut this CC Cream with Lisa on Friday Night Beauty!  I’m still not sure how they managed to finish everything up that afternoon, drive all the way to suburban Philadelphia, debut a product live on TV, and then head all the way back to New York for an early-morning call-time for another designer’s runway show—all without skipping a beat.  Beauty never sleeps I guess!

After the makeup, hair & nails were done on each of the models, it was time for them to put on the gorgeous clothing, so we headed out to our seats at the show. One of the most exciting treats was watching Janelle Monáe perform live during the runway show. So cool!

We’ve got more from stila planned for you including a beauty how-to we shot just before the show coming so hold tight! Here’s our team working with Sarah as she created a look on one of the models.  We can’t wait to share it with you soon!

I hope you enjoyed coming along to Fashion Week with us!  It was such an amazing experience to be able to witness our incredible QVC beauty vendors at work. I’m already looking forward to Fashion Week in February and plotting ways to share even more tips, tricks & backstage peeks with you so stay tuned!

Mary Beth’s Menu – Who Likes Lasagna?

$

Since earlier this week we recognized National Adoption Day, I thought it was befitting to let our daughter choose which recipe I would share with you.

Elizabeth loves pasta and one of her favorites is also one of my mine, “Mary Beth’s Favorite Lasagna”. This is a great recipe to experiment with and customize to fit your taste buds perfectly …… you can change the type of meat you use, add more or less garlic, use fresh parsley or jarred …. whatever you like.

Mary Beth’s Favorite Lasagna

  • One pound ground beef
  • 32 ounces of your favorite spaghetti sauce
  • Four cups small curd, cottage cheese
  • Four cups shredded mozzarella
  • ¼ Cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 4 Large eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • ¼ Teaspoon pepper
  • Garlic to taste

Brown the ground beef in a skillet until no longer pink and drain well. Add the sauce, salt, pepper and garlic. Set aside. Cook lasagna noodles per directions on the package and set aside. Mix together the remaining ingredients, using only half of the mozzarella (set the other half aside -2 cups). Lightly grease a 9” x 13” baking pan. Place 4 noodles along the bottom of the greased pan, cover with 1/3 of the meat sauce, then ½ of the cheese mixture, then repeat two times, making three layers. Top with the remaining two cups of mozzarella cheese. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and bake for one hour.  Remove from oven and let sit for approximately ten minutes before cutting. Serve with your favorite garlic bread and salad!

Enjoy!

Counting our blessings,
Mary Beth

Runway Beauty Trends & Fall Makeup Changeups

 Mally
I was lucky enough to attend several runway shows during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week earlier this month. Each season, our dear friend Mally Roncal does the makeup for the Tracy Reese runway show. Before the show, I got to go backstage to check out the look Mally created.  I always like to see what makeup trends emerge on the runway. At this show, it was interesting to see that the cat eye is still very much with us. Nails also continue to be a strong statement. The trend that caught my attention the most was body art. I'm not really a fan of tattoos, but I thought this temporary body art was beautiful and really complemented the clothes. What do you think? Would you wear a temporary tattoo? It also got me thinking about how women change their makeup routines with the seasons. For me, the biggest change I make is wearing darker colors on my lips and nails. What's your seasonal changeup when it comes to your makeup?

Coconut-Pumpkin Soup! What Soup or Stew Says "Fall" to You?

Hello, foodies…

Have you seen all the pumpkins at your local market? And how about at those “pick-your-own” apple and pumpkin farms? The local orchard near me looks like a portrait in a painting…the pumpkins are perfectly spaced in the fields, the branches of the apples are bending under the weight of their ripe fruit, and there are countless little hands bending and reaching for the fall harvest.

Foodies, it’s FALL! And, I can think about is comforting fall recipes! Now that the season’s officially started, we’re making an autumnal soup this Wednesday night on In the Kitchen with David that’ll warm you body and soul: my Coconut-Pumpkin Soup.

Coconut-Pumpkin Soup

This recipe is prepared with the Technique® 11-Piece Hard Anodized Dishwasher Safe Cookware Set (K39776).

Go to David's Recipe Item Page for the full list of items that David has used in his recipes.

Ingredients:

1 Tbsp olive oil
1 clove of garlic, minced
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
1 (15-oz) can pumpkin puree
1 cup chicken stock
1 (14-oz) can coconut milk
1 Tbsp curry powder
2 Tbsp dark brown sugar
1/4 cup cream
1-1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/4 tsp ground black pepper

Directions:

Heat the olive oil on medium heat in a medium-size pot. Add the garlic and the onion and sauté until the onion is translucent.

Add the pumpkin puree, chicken stock, coconut milk, curry powder, and dark brown sugar. Stir until fully combined.

Bring the mixture to a simmer and continue to cook for 15–20 minutes. Finish the soup with the cream, salt, and pepper.

Here’s a step-by-step tutorial of how to make this recipe. It’s incredibly easy!

One of our chefs here at QVC actually taught me the “proper” way to chop an onion a few years ago. Halve the onion, make 3-4 horizontal cuts, then cut down vertically. You’ll need to hold the onion together, because the pieces will try to slide and separate.

While they were at it, our chefs also taught me the best way to mince garlic. Always smash the garlic first, use the surface of the blade to really press it into a paste (to release the natural flavor in the cloves) and then mince it with the knife edge.
When the olive oil is hot, add the onions and garlic and sauté until the onion is translucent. Keep the heat at medium, otherwise the garlic will burn.

Add the pumpkin puree, stock, coconut milk, curry, and brown sugar.

Stir to combine and keep stirring to dissolve that sugar. When the mixture simmers, continue to cook for 15–20 minutes.

Finish the soup with a little heavy cream, salt, and pepper.

And, as a garnish, add a few pumpkin seeds. You can also add a tiny bit more cream, give it one stir, and serve. It’ll look so professional!

Let’s talk soup for your blog question today. What soup or stew says “fall” to you? Chili? Butternut Squash Soup? Beef Stew? I think Chicken & Dumplings is just my all-around favorite stew and now that it’s turning colder, I want it! In case I’m preaching to the choir, here’s the recipe. I’ll see you Wednesday at 8pm ET.

Keep it flavorful!
—David

P.S. Don’t forget—I’m appearing on bethenny tomorrow! Here in the Philadelphia area, the show’s on at 11am ET on Fox 29. Check your local listings to see when the show airs in your area. You can also check my brandshop for more information about the show and Ms. Bethenny Frankel herself!

6:15am

I get up bright and early to squeeze in a 30-minute workout before the boys wake up. I shower and get dressed.

I changed my shoes three times before I settled on these electric blue Manolos.

6:45am

The boys are up and the day begins. I make them a healthy, balanced breakfast and check their homework before school.

My breakfast: A chai soy tea misto and oatmeal from Starbucks.

8:00am

My husbandScott and I put the kids on the bus before our long drive into the office. It’s amazing to have an hour alone with him every day. I use this time to check emails, read Women’s Wear Daily and the New York Times, or catch up on sleep!

9:15am

I arrive at the office and check in with my team. I like to be involved in every aspect of the design process, so the day is packed with meetings and conference calls.

10:30am

A review of next season’s launches leaves me buzzing with anticipation. There are some amazing things in the pipeline that I can’t wait to share with our tartelettes!

I carry seven shades of Amazonian butter lipstick in my bag at all times.

1:00pm

I have a lunch meeting with Candace, AVP of Marketing. It’s nice out so we eat salads and sip green juice in Bryant Park. I don’t drink coffee, so juice is my staple for natural energy.

3:00pm

Daniel, tarte’s creative director, and I make a trip to Mood in search of fabric inspiration. I’m really into tribal prints and floral patterns right now.

35,000 Instagram followers. I snap a photo of these gorgeous flowers on the way back to the office. My favorite Instagram filter is Valencia. What’s yours?

5:00pm

Scott and I leave the office at five on the dot. I pack as much into the work day as possible so I can make it home for dinner with the boys. We always eat as a family and love trying foods from other cultures.

6:15pm

It’s off to whatever practice we have that night. Both of the boys play little league and take music lessons. Our evenings are energetic and full of laughter.

9:00pm

The boys go to bed and Scott and I have some time to relax. Sometimes we watch TV or I’ll read and check emails again.

Bedtime

I take a hot shower or, if I have time, a bubble bath. It’s a ritual to use this time to pamper myself, clear my head, and find balance before another busy day.

I collect different soaps from my various travels.

The LCNY static is BACK tomorrow & Happy Birthday to my babies!!!

Hello my LCNY fashionistas......how are You?  Guess what?  MBR and I are back for several more Wednesday mornings until the holiday crush starting on Wednesday, 9/25 at 9 AM.  We are so excited to see you and enjoy our much needed girl time.  I had a whole different direction to go with my blog today, which I will save for another time. I spent the weekend with my lovely daughters celebrating their 26th birthday and wedding dress shopping for MEGHAN.  First of all let it be known as only a mom can say I am the luckiest mom in the world to have my two darlings.  They are the wind in my sails and the beat in my heart.  When Meghan came out in the first dress, honestly I could not even see her. All I saw was the adorable little blonde in her dress and tappy shoes dancing around my house at 3 years old.  Stunningly beautiful, and ever soooooo happy.  After several hours of shopping and a couple of maybes......the birthday dinner was upon us.  We dissected each dress as only sisters and a mom can do.  From how it made her hips look, to color, pictures and what Matt would think.   But the over riding statement that continued to come up from the two of them was......how will it look in the pictures 10 years from now?  P.S. that never even crossed my mind 31 years ago. She wants to look sophisticated and classic.  Who doesn't!!   Isn't that the over riding statement we all make.  Forget the pictures ten years from now, we all want to look that way today. Just in case you forgot..... LCNY is sophisticated, classic, trends that will be your friends long after you still want them, and figure flattering.  I say bring it on......join MBR and yours truly on Wednesday...we will bring the styles and you bring the coffee ( an apple cider donut would be awesome). The picture is of my 26 year old babies, where did the time go.

Fashion Week was quite exciting for me this year! I had the great pleasure of filming a web cast at Bryant Park in New York with the beautiful and very talented Courtney Cason

Before filming we reached out to my Facebook friends for questions they wanted me to answer. Click "play" to watch this fantastic video and hear the questions and answers. One may be yours!

I took Courtney for a walk down memory lane where my career in the fashion industry began. First we met at 1407 Broadway, New York in the heart of the garment district. This is where I landed my first job in the fashion industry over 35 years ago. I had the great opportunity of meeting various merchandisers from every major department and specialty store throughout the country.

Next, we took a walk around the corner to 1411 Broadway where I opened my own company designing and manufacturing. Not long after, QVC literally walked into my showroom where both myself and my mother-in-law Audrey Graver designed my collection and placed a test order... The rest is history for both me and Audrey!

Susan and Audrey wearing the Susan Graver Liquid Knit Tunic w/ 3/4 Sleeves & Jacquard Wrap.

The designing continues... Watch this Thursday, 9-11 AM ET and Sunday,

10 PM ET.

See you then!

xoxo,

Susan
