Today's Clarks Bendables Arbor Opal Bot Shoe TSV!

The Clarks Arbor Opal is not your typical boat shoe! As many of you know, I am a history buff, so I decided to look up the origin of the boat shoe and was surprised to discover it was inspired by a dog’s paw! Yep, in the 1930s a man noticed his dog’s uncanny ability to grip the ice so he replicated that traction for the soles of his shoes and thus, the topsider was born. But cut to 2014 and you’ll see how Clarks has transformed this traditionally masculine looking slip-on into a fun, feminine and fresh style. With its vibrant suede color palate, breathable perforated upper, and lightweight EVA outsole, the Arbor Opal is sure to become your go-to summer boat shoe. Wear them to the shore with Capri pants and a striped top or your favorite summer sundress and you’ll be sure to make a splash!

Stay Stylish, Amy.

Hello, foodies…

I’m back for In the Kitchen with David this Sunday! I’m so glad you enjoyed my Chocolate Chip Lava Cookies.Mary QVC said you were all over those cookies in the chat on Wednesday and it looks like lots of you shared them like MAD on Facebook—thank you! Hopefully you’ll be just as excited about Sunday’s muffin pan creation, my Vanilla Cupcakes with Whipped Strawberry Frosting!

Vanilla Cupcakes with Whipped Strawberry Frosting

Vanilla Cupcakes with Whipped Strawberry Frosting
Makes 34–36 Mini Cupcakes

Ingredients:
Cupcakes:

  • 3/4 cup + 2 Tbsp cake flour
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk

Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 3 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp seedless strawberry jam
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh strawberries

Directions:

  1. To prepare the cupcakes, preheat the oven to 350°F. Line 2 (24-cup) mini muffin pans with mini cupcake liners. Whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium-size bowl. Set aside.
  2. Whip the eggs and sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the wire whip attachment, on medium speed, until they’re light, creamy and pale yellow. Reduce the speed to medium-low and add the vanilla and oil, mixing until combined. Slowly add the flour mixture, alternating with the buttermilk in 3 batches, and mix until just combined and smooth, scraping down the sides of the bowl if necessary.
  3. Pour the cupcake batter into the lined muffin pans, filling each cup 3/4 full. Bake on the bottom rack of the oven for 16–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cupcake comes out clean. Remove the cupcakes from the oven and let them cool completely.
  4. To prepare the frosting, whip the heavy cream in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a wire whip attachment, until medium-size peaks form. Place the whipped cream into a small bowl and refrigerate.
  5. Place the cream cheese into your mixing bowl and mix with the paddle attachment until creamy. Add the confectioners’ sugar, vanilla, and strawberry jam and mix until evenly combined and no lumps exist. Fold in the fresh chopped strawberries so that they're evenly distributed. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture, being careful not to overwork the cream.
  6. Place the frosting into a piping bag fitted with a plain tip, and pipe the frosting on top of each cupcake. If desired, garnish each cupcake with a quartered strawberry.

This recipe is prepared using the Temp-tations® Old World 24-Cup Mini Muffin Pan with Wire Rack (K37849).

Beauty Before Breakfast

In early 2013, I was approached by our behind-the-scenes team with an idea for a “Beauty Show” as a lead in forAM Style. The thinking was, since Saturday mornings were already a popular time for fashion fun, why not add beauty to the mix? It sounded great, except for one thing -- I was already getting up before 5:00 a.m. in preparation for AM Style. AM Beauty meant I’d be getting up before 4:00 a.m. I’m a morning person, but come on...

My Bose alarm goes off at 3:45 a.m. on Saturdays

But I ultimately decided it would be great fun to host an early morning beauty show and this week marks our 50th AM Beauty! We've definitely had lots of fun!

Video from the very first AM Beauty show

I hope AM Beauty has also provided helpful information and products that are beneficial for your beauty routine. It’s great to be able to hear from experts in all things beauty, even if you’re still in your pajamas. That’s what AM Beauty is all about -- helping us all face the day feeling beautiful.

use two of my favorite beauty products TOGETHER almost daily. I have a little vanity area in my bathroom where I use my Emjoi micro-pedi to remove callus from my feet, and then I apply a generous amount of Ultra Repair Cream. I put on socks when I'm done, and the routine works. I may not have the prettiest feet, but they are soft! Did you know the first product I ever offered on AM Beauty was the Emjoi?

Emjoi and Ultra Repair Cream

I’d love to hear what you would like to see in future AM Beauty shows. Fifty AM Beautys and counting. I’m looking forward to many more -- I hope you are too!

See you Saturday!

Working Out With Fashion Friends -- Pilates With Susan Graver!

Not only do we share a passion for fashion, Susan Graver and I also are avid pilates people! While we try and balance work and family, we both find health and fitness to be very important. What better way to get your fitness on than with some good friends!

Last week Susan and I met up for an early morning Pilates class. Of course we started the work out with some fashion talk, and she gave me some extra styling tips. It always comes in handy to have fashion friends ;-). I promise we got to work after fifteen minutes of modeling haha! We broke a sweat, had some laughs, and then treated ourselves to a very well deserved lunch afterwards!

Here are some fun pictures from our work out!

A Return To My Youth

What’s a dramatic change that only takes a second? A wig.  In the next four weeks I’ll be “Wiggin’ Out.” I’ll wear four different wigs in four weeks, and share the story each week.

Years ago, wearing a wig meant you had something to hide (loss of hair or an illness), and keeping the wig a secret was crucial.

These days, wearing a wig is like putting on false eyelashes, fake nails, or getting your hair colored. You could just as easily be wearing a wig for fun and adventure (hello my Las Vegas friends), as for actual coverage.

Regardless of why you’re wearing a wig you don’t want it to scream “WIG!!!!,” and thankfully wigs these days are SOOOOOO good looking.

This week I wanted to go as far away from my natural state as possible, and for me that meant long hair. For the first 25 years of my life I had long hair. I changed my hairstyle every day in high school, and it was my crown in college (they called me “bows” because of my headbands with bows).

I think I first cut my hair in 1990, and I haven’t gone long since. Until now ->(Long Layers Wig)

I instantly feel it on my neck, and it’s heavy (and a bit hot after a while).  I hear Willow Smith in my head (“I whip my hair back and forth”)

And it’s shocking. Courtney says “I feel like I’m cheating on my friend Rachel while talking to you.”

Shawn gives me a new name … “Ra-CHello.” And I stop Rick in his tracks when he says hello to my back, and I turn around and he sees me (he thought I was Sandra Bennett).

Meanwhile, I’m comfortable as a cat back to my old ways. I remember studying and twirling my hair around my finger when I was younger.

I did hear that this hairstyle makes me look younger. It definitely  smoothes out my short, edgy, sassy, vibe, but I’m not sure it takes the years off.  I didn’t get any weird looks from strangers. In my mind they accepted me as I presented myself (as a long haired woman). I went to the library, to the store, and to one of my favorite spots.

I will say that the long hair made me feel different inside. I felt more girly, a bit more feminine, flirty even.  And honestly my usual style felt too tomboyish for this hair.

But that’s what’s awesome about a good wig. You really can have as many looks as you want. You can play dress up and wear this outfit with one wig, and another outfit with another wig.  I hadn’t really considered adding a wig to my repertoire of fun changes, but I’m thinking about it now.

How about you? Would you, or do you wear wigs for fun? If so do you have a story? I would love to hear…. And remember come back next week because I’ll have a different wig to show.

If you’re looking for adventure here’s the wig I’m wearing (Long Layers Wig) and you can shop our selection here (Shop For Wigs).

Happy Birthday, my Kaylee-Bear!

A couple of days ago, it was my daughter's 7th birthday.  I can't believe how much my life has changed in the last seven years.  From sleepless nights and colic, to first steps and first days of school.   Now she is reading books about Laura Ingalls Wilder and Martin Luther King Jr.

I can't imagine what is going to happen next!  She wanted to have a party at Build-A-Bear this year, and I was a little apprehensive.  We had never had a birthday party for the kids outside of our own house before, and I had no idea what to expect.  Luckily, everything went well, and all of the kids just loved it (even the boys)!

It means the world to me to see her happy.  I only hope she knows that I see how hard she tries at everything.  Every time I look at her, I am just so proud.

Happy Birthday, my Kaylee-Bear!

Bacon & Egg Cups! What's Your Ultimate Breakfast?

0
0

Hello, foodies…

The recipe development meetings I have with the In the Kitchen with David team are some of my favorite meetings. We talk about food, more food, and oh yes, food! So when we landed on our “Do You Know the Muffin Pan” theme and were noodling over a breakfast recipe, muffins, naturally came to mind. We will have a muffin recipe later for you this month. But we were dreaming big. What if we took the ultimate breakfast—bacon and eggs—and put it in a muffin cup. Would it hold? Was a muffin pan big enough for such a big breakfast? Yes. And yes. Here’s my Bacon and Egg Cups recipe, start to finish.

Bacon and Egg Cups
Serves 6

Ingredients:

  • 6 slices bacon, sliced 1/4" thick, widthwise
  • 1 (20-oz) bag refrigerated shredded hash brown potatoes
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 12 large eggs
  • Additional salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 400°F.

In a small skillet, cook the bacon in a small skillet over medium heat until crisp.

While the bacon is cooking, toss together the hash browns, oil, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp pepper. Set aside. Remove the cooked bacon from its rendered fat, drain on a paper towel, and set aside.

Using a teaspoon, divide the rendered bacon fat among the 12 cups of a regular-size muffin pan. Spray the sides of each cup with cooking spray. Divide the potato mixture among the 12 cups and press slightly into the cups.

Bake the cups for 45 minutes, or until the bottoms of the hash browns are a dark golden brown, then remove from the oven.

Crumble the bacon pieces and divide evenly among the 12 potato cups. Divide 1/2 cup of the Swiss cheese evenly in each cup over the bacon.

Carefully crack an egg over each cup, being careful not to break the yolk, and top each egg with the remaining cheese.

Season each egg with additional salt and pepper.

Bake the cups for another 15 minutes, or until desired egg doneness. (If you like soft-cooked (runny) eggs, don’t exceed 15 minutes. If you like firmer, hard-cooked eggs, bake them longer.) When they’re finished baking, remove each egg cup by running a knife around the edge.

This recipe is prepared using the Cook’s Essentials® 12-Piece Cookware Set with Color Smart Nonstick (K37508).

Go to David's Recipe Item Page for the full list of items that David has used in his recipes.

If you’re trying to tackle portion control, one cup would be plenty—you can have all the breakfast favorites you love without going overboard. But, if you're looking for a hearty breakfast—perhaps for Easter Sunday—I suggest serving two cups per person. Note that we didn’t specify a specific bacon type because you can’t go wrong here. If you like hickory-smoked, apple wood, or country bacon, use it. You could even use a blend of bacon (if you have a few open packages) to add to its deliciousness.

For today’s blog question, tell me what you consider an “ultimate” breakfast. Is it bacon and eggs? Is it pancakes and sausage? Stuffed French toast? A savory breakfast casserole? My ultimate breakfast is eggs and bacon—all mixed up in a bowl of grits! YUM!I’ll see you Wednesday for In the kitchen with David at 8pm ET.

Keep it flavorful!

Weekend Wedding, The Perfect Scrub + Global Style

Weekend Recap:

Hello PM Stylers! Long time no talk :)  Sorry to have missed you last week, as I was in North Carolina for Aaron’s best friend’s wedding.  The venue was a place called Old Edwards Inn Farmhouse and it was just stunning… rustic and beautiful.  I’m pretty sure Aaron and I spent the entire night out on the dance floor with all of our friends… which leads me to think, I need to make sure I can break it down in my wedding dress! It was a wonderful weekend to spend time with our close friends and such a nice getaway! Here are some picutres from the Big day… aren’t the table settings GORGEOUS?!  She gave succulents as their wedding favor and we thought that was such a cute idea!

BTW… we finally got out into the garden this weekend to clear out the winter yuckiness.  Have you headed into the garden yet?   Thank goodness for our gardening experts on the Q… with the weather as bad as it was, some of our plants didn’t make it through the season… so it’s time to start over again! Bring on the Lil’s and Roses!

#Dinnerfor2

On the agenda for this week are two dinners inspired from Shape Magazine and FoodNetwork.com.  Citrus chicken seemed like a nice refreshing way to welcome in the spring season and the crab salad makes me feel like I’m on vacay… which isn’t happening anytime soon :)   Here are the recipes and make sure to follow me on my Facebook page to see how they turned out!

Ingredients for Crab Salad
  • Kosher salt
  • 1/2 pound haricots verts or green beans, halved
  • 2/3 cup low-fat plain yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons low-fat mayonnaise
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh chives
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 3 anchovy fillets, chopped
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • 1/2 pound lump or claw crabmeat
  • 1 Hass avocado, halved, pitted and diced
  • 3 romaine hearts, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups whole-wheat croutons
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes, halved
Directions

Bring a saucepan of salted water to a boil. Add the haricots verts and cook until crisp-tender, 3 to 5 minutes. Drain and run under cold water to stop the cooking.

Puree the yogurt, mayonnaise, lemon juice, chives, basil and anchovies in a blender until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.

Toss the crabmeat, half of the avocado and about 1 tablespoon of the yogurt dressing in a small bowl. Toss the romaine, croutons, haricots verts and the remaining avocado with the remaining dressing in a large bowl.

Divide the romaine salad among plates, top with the tomatoes and place some of the crab mixture in the center.

Beauty Obsession: Josie Maran’s Argan Oil Sugar Balm Body Scrub (A226111) and Argan Illuminizing Body Butter (A253539)

It’s time to Spring Clean the Beauty Routine, Girls!  This week I chose to focus on the body to help us feel like our skin is coming back to life.  It’s not enough to just put on some lotion after our showers; we really need to rework the idea of renewing our skin on a constant basis. This week I chose two of Josie Maran’s beauty go-to’s to help us resurface, renew, hydrate, and shine.

True Story: I have used a lot of scrubs in my day.  Don’t get me wrong… they serve a big purpose… getting rid of excess/dead skin so that we look and feel renewed.  What I’m about to show and tell you may have a profound effect in the way you view a scrub.  Josie really knocked it out of the park on this one.

First, open the jar to a light refreshing lemon citrus scent that awakens your senses.  From the moment you scoop the sugar scrub out of the glass jar on to your hand, it is thick and creamy. The sugar spreads across your skin liberally without feeling like you had to use too much.  The biggest treat about this is that while massaging the sugar into your skin it’s like you can almost feel like hydration going in.  While the sugar is hard at work removing those dead skin cells it feels like an argan barrier has been added to your skin… to better explain myself; your skin feels baby soft when you go to wash it off.  It’s miraculous really.  I’ve never had a scrub make my skin feel this hydrated and moisturized… and think about it… it’s just one step!

To finish off this incredible experience I decided to top it off with Josie’s Illumizing Body Butter.  I love a good self-tanner as we all know, but sometimes I forget to reapply or I simply don’t have time to do it.  I love the fact that what’s inside this jar is not only liquid gold argan oil whipped to perfection, it’s that it can make your skin look like liquid gold.  It gives subtle illuminating color which to me, looks like the person wearing it is radiating from the inside out.  Think of this body butter as sealing in all the hydration the scrub gave you and leaving you with glowing natural beauty.  Oh! It just doesn’t get any better :)  Trust me, you won’t recognize the texture, the look, or feel of your skin.  Cheers to spring time and showing off your gorgeous skin!

PM Style:

Inspiration for this week’s PM Style: Global.  My beauty obsession had to do with drawing light and renewing so I thought, why not make my outfit look like I had been somewhere.  I am taking Lori’s Hot Pick (A252319) in the show in nectar and pairing it with a new olive pant and my staple brown sandals.  Pairing this look with accessories like bangles will tie in the embellishments of the top and keep the focus there while the pants and shoes serve as a good neutral base.  See you on the runway!!

A Sentimental Family - Hosts At Home With Jacque

When we sat down to think about the things in our home that make it so special to us --- it's the sentimental things that mean so much.

My husband Jim and I both have a strong connection to items that bring back memories.  This photo from my parents on their honeymoon is one of my priceless possessions --- and my husband Jim has the United States military burial flag for his father that he cherishes.  Theresa loves her stuffed "Puppy".

We love watching movies together.  Theresa loves to draw and play with our doggie Grace.  Grace has boundless energy and is all about giving love!  When we adopted her last June - she was 11 pounds --- now she's close to 50 pounds!  After chewing through EVERY chew toy she's ever had - finding a comfy place to sleep is next on the list!  Can you believe that MyPillow now has DOG BEDS?!?!  Yes!!!  Small, Medium & Large sizes!  We got a Large  one for Grace!  So...Jim and I tried to take pictures of her on it.  Not so easy!

She didn't like it in front of the door...

She sort-of liked it in the corner of the family room...

...finally she LOVED it ON TOP of the love seat!!!  Really Grace?!?!  Silly puppy!

I've been collecting pieces from Jim Shore for years!  I adore him!  My favorite pieces are his Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer Collection - and his Angels!  I love his beautiful Mother's Day Angel called "You're My Angel"!  Angels have always been very special to me - for those of you who already know that I always wear an angel wing next to my wedding ring set!  Angels are always with us - we're never alone! :)

We are a household filled with faith!  Last year when I saw the Home Reflections Rosebud Cross Flameless Candle with Timer - I knew I had found the perfect gift for our daughter!  Not only does she love to pray - she's named after St. Theresa (St. Therese) - The Little Flower - who's known for beautiful roses --- and my Patron Saint.  With Mother's Day, Confirmations and Easter coming up - what a wonderful item to add to your home or to give as a gift.  We move ours between the entry way table and the mantle in the family room.  The flicker from the flameless candle at night is beautiful - but you can really see the detail of the carved roses during the day.

Another favorite of mine - Butterflies!  I've always loved the story that when you see butterflies - it means that angels are among you!   Theresa and I had a great time a couple summers ago hatching Butterflies in an enclosed mesh tent!  Then we got to release them a few days after they hatched!  She wants us to do it again this year!  You can do it too with the Butterfly Garden by Insect Lore - and for some indoor butterflies I'm liking this rug I found from Royal Palace!

Now to my outdoor fun --- my garden!!!  My love for gardening came from my mother Connie.  We would spend hours outdoors together.  I loved planting flowers and growing radishes when I was little.  Now in my own garden I have items from Cottage Farms and Roberta's Gardens - to Plow & Hearth and Bethlehem Lights --- we make our outdoor area an extension of our indoor living area!  I can't wait to add in Valerie Parr Hill's Mercury Glass Spheres with Garden Stakes for some outdoor magic!  I'm getting a set of blue and a set of silver to mix in the garden!  AND I get to finally put out my new Plow & Hearth St. Francis Bird Feeder --- I just haven't picked the perfect spot YET!  We're also planning to add some outdoor entertainment lights around our deck with Bethlehem Lights NEW Frosted Globe lights --- I love their Patriotic color choice!

Can you believe these lilies in my yard from Cottage Farms?!?!  They get bigger every year!!!  This year I'm adding the Cottage Farms Jacque's Pick Colossal Daylily Collection around them!

You should see my  hydrangeas and calla lilies too - gorgeous!  I promise to take plenty of pictures of them this year when they bloom!

This spring and summer we're really focused on organizing!!!  We need places to store toys, dogs supplies, crafting items and odds and ends!  SOLUTION!!!  Valerie Parr Hill's Indoor/Outdoor Fold-Up Ottomans!  In Solid Colors and NEW Scroll Patterns.  I love that we can use them indoors and outdoors!  Valerie is an amazing woman!!!  Such a sweetheart!

Theresa wanted me to share with you the new sign she made for her room!  :)

If sleeping was a competitive sport - I'd be the World Champion!  I love to sleep!  Since I work different hours every week - I need to make sure I get quality sleep!  We love PedicSolutions - and we miss our beds when were away!  If you need a comfort and support makeover for your bed - give the PedicSolutions Gel Memory Foam Topper a try!

What are your favorite decorating and personal items that make your house so special inside and out???  What are your favorite QVC Home products that you love???  I'd love to hear your favorites!!!

You can always find me at my Facebook page - www.facebook.com/JacqueQVC

Best wishes and blessings,
Jacque :)

What makes this TSV® so special?

Heidi Guest
All of our scents are special because they tap into creating a state of well-being from the moment you use them. And when you layer the three products, you get the truest, most long-lasting fragrance. The eau de parfum is my favorite version of the scent; it has a higher concentration of the essential oils. Pure elegance!!!

Dara Lynn
If you crave the softest, silkiest, best-smelling skin, you must consider this trio! Start with the perfumed olive oil body scrub to cleanse, exfoliate, soften, and scent your skin. Once you try it, you will put it on the top of your favorites list.

Our tub of fragranced whipped body crème is beyond a lotion. It's decadence! You will feel indulged every day with multiple butters, antioxidants, and the fragrance of your choice. It's the perfect thing to take your skin from thirsty to smooth, hydrated, and scented.

The EDP spray fragrance is our luxury concentration of fragrance. Take the philosophy challenge, "change your fragrance, change your mood". When you chose a fragrance you not only choose for yourself but all those around you. When you wear philosophy not only do you feel good others around you do too!

Mari Lyn Meier
It's my favorite fragrance products, super-sized! There are no rules on how to use this TSV. Some days you may want to layer all three pieces, and other days, you may only have time for one. Either way, you'll be the best smelling person around!

What's your favorite thing about this TSV?

We all deserve a little luxury each day. Don't have time to go to a spa? (And even if you do, you can't go every day.) The body products (the perfumed olive oil body scrub and the whipped body cream) provide the same luxurious results you could expect to get from a exfoliating/hydrating treatment in a spa...and best of all, you can give yourself this luxury every day.

Also, for the baby grace fans out there who always want an offering of this fragrance, your day has come! If there was ever a collection that wrapped you in luxury and nurtured your spirit, this is the perfect expression for baby grace.

These three items represent the longest-lasting, most potent concentration of our fragrance that lasts. Full body scenting is the best way for your fragrance to carry you through the entire day. Start your layering story in the tub or shower with the olive oil body scrub, then layer on the whipped body cream for the smoothing benefits and fragrance that stays on the top layers of the skin, then mist on the EDP, our most concentrated fragrance spray. From the start to the end of your day, you and all those around you will notice how good you smell and tell you so!

This TSV represents the best of what philosophy does in the fragrance category. All three items have a specific purpose in giving you beautifully scented skin. It only takes one try to know how unique the body and fragrance products are. You not only look beautiful, you smell beautiful. Most importantly you feel beautiful.

I love this layering collection, especially this time of year. As we are moving from boots to flip flops, the olive oil scrub does everything you need it to do. It cleanses, exfoliates, and conditions skin, leaving it feeling super-soft and smooth. This is also my go-to product after a long run, or any exercise. Use it on dry skin before you get in the shower for a deeper exfoliation. It's also a great pre-self-tan product.

Moisturized skin is great looking, and why not add your favorite fragrance to it? This whipped body crème is my favorite way to moisturize! It's so light, and it intensely moisturizes. You might start using this because of a favorite fragrance, but you'll come back because your skin looks and feels better than it ever has. Use this before you apply your fragrance to let the scent linger longer.

This eau de parfum lasts all day on me! It's super-refined and contains the best of the essentials oils of the fragrance which means you, and those you invite close to you, will enjoy it. Spray liberally, and be sure to spray it on your pulse points. As your body warms up, the fragrance emits, drawing people closer.

Tasty Easter Appetizer: Newport Beach Clam Chowder

Hi, everyone!

I finished my spring decorating this morning and my house feels officially de-winterized. I would have loved to infuse a little more Easter into my décor, but I just don’t have enough room, time, or the ability to be so specific. (I bet you can identify!) So, I put out little spring touches here and there. Today I put a birdcage with candle inside on my counter. I also have a few little bunnies here and there. They’re not so cutesy that they look "Easter," but they definitely look like spring. I also changed out the throw pillows and found some that are lighter in tone…you know, all those softer colors. It’s nice having a neutral couch—you can change it with the seasons!

I hope you’ve gotten all the winter out of your home. And, if your thoughts are on Easter (and how could they NOT be after you’ve seen those glow-in-the-dark eggs), how about a recipe? Maybe an Easter appetizer? Here’s a recipe from my childhood--Newport Beach Clam Chowder. It’s named after the beach where I spent many a day. My friend’s parents liked to go clam digging and this was the reward after a long day in the sand.

Newport Beach Clam Chowder

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup celery, diced
  • 1 cup potatoes, diced and peeled
  • Water, to cover veggies
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 cans minced clams, juice reserved
  • Few cups milk
  • 1 (8-oz) can of corn, drained
  • 1 cup sour cream

Preparation:

  1. Put the onion, celery, and potatoes in a large saucepan. Cover with water and cook over medium heat until the potatoes are just tender. Drain the water and set aside.
  2. Melt the butter over low heat in a large stockpot. Add the flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir until the mixture starts to bubble. Pour the reserved clam juice into the pot and then add enough milk to make about 4 cups of liquid. Stir over low heat until thick.
  3. Add the cooked veggies to the pot as well as the clams and corn. Simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the sour cream. Let the soup sit for 5 minutes before serving.

It would be adorable to serve this chowder in little sourdough bread bowls at Easter. Make sure to save the tops for dipping—that’s the best part!

Mark your calendars—You’re Home with Jillis on next Saturday at 8pm ET. And, I’ll have TWO blogs next week…another terrific Easter recipe and a DIY centerpiece for your holiday table!

From my home to yours,
—Jill

Spring Clean Your Skin

Each week, I'm asking our beauty experts at QVC for a Spring Beauty Tip. I post them every Wednesday on my Facebook page (Sandra Bennett QVC) and some make it into a blog here on QVC.com. Here's this week's tip:

I'm a big believer in using the right skincare and get very excited to try new serums and creams. However, I never really thought a cleanser could make a big difference in my skin until I started using Tatcha. In fact, since using Tatcha Cleansing Oil and Polishing Enzyme Powder, many people at QVC have noticed my skin and asked me what I'm using. Needless to say, I'm now a huge fan! So, it only makes sense that I would ask Vickiy Tsai for a Spring Beauty Tip.

Vicky says: "My biggest tip is spring clean your skin! Get rid of all the debris and dead skin that the winter left. We have been dealing with dry air, thanks in part to heaters. If you want that glowing skin for spring, combine Tatcha's cleansers. We already have a great Cleansing Oil and Enzyme Powder, but nobody knows you can combine them. Typically, I suggest using the oil at night and the powder in the morning, but I also love using them both at the same time. First, cleanse your face with the oil on dry skin and get your eye makeup off. Then, before you rinse it off, add a few more pumps of the cleansing oil to your hands and sprinkle on the powder. Rub them together and it creates a gommage." (A gommage is an effective form of exfoliation used in facials and body treatments.) "Massage the combined oil and powder onto your skin, now avoiding the eyes. When you rinse it off, your skin will be super soft, moisturized, and exfoliated."

Of course, I went home and immediately tried this tip. She was right!! Thanks, Vicky!

Dress for Success Gala 2014: Something to Share

Last Thursday, Dress for Success held their fundraising gala called Something to Share. QVC had the distinction of being the corporate honoree.

Over the years QVC has donated over 5,000 items to the organization. While I haven’t donated that much Smile, I’ve donated to Dress for Success for years.

I am proud of my relationship with the organization, so when QVC tapped me to attend the gala, I was honored and ready. Rita Yarsinsky (my trusty Facebook partner) and I hopped on the bus and headed to NYC.

It was a formal affair, so before dinner we ate passed hors d’oeuvres and browsed the silent auction items (one of which was a QVC experience and tour with me)

Mary Anthony, mother of four, including New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony, was honored with a “Toast to our Mothers” dedication. She shared that she’s an avid QVC shopper {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Dress for Success Worldwide CEO Joi Gordon praised QVC’s support of the organization.

This Gala was an opportunity for Dress for Success to strut their stuff, and to share, in a big way, how the work is impacting people all across the country (and internationally too).  They lined the stage with Dress for Success Ambassadors: women whose lives reflect the success of the program.

Keynote speaker Karen Monroe spoke to pin-drop silence as she shared her journey from abuse, prostitution, addiction, and prison, to her partnership with Dress for Success. She was recently hired as a peer mentor and manager at an addiction and treatment center in Ohio.

This was a fundraiser, so when Dress for Success asked for money, QVC donated on the spot. Claire Watts’ (CEO QVC U.S.) table donated $10,000. QVC is now closing in on $450,000 in monetary donations to Dress for Success.

QVC supports the success and wellness of women through the power of relationships. I love this mission because it’s the relationships that we have with one another that inspire/compel us to lend a hand. How many times have you donated to an organization simply because a friend asked you to? See, we keep each other whole simply because we all have different interests and different relationships, and ultimately those interests connect us all.
