Weekend Recap

Hello PM Stylers! We are just getting home from what seems like the official kick off to our summer travel season and boy is it off to a good start!

Last Thursday, Aaron, myself, and LR went to Long Island to celebrate the wedding of our dear friend Aimee Kestenberg. To date, Aimee and Sean's wedding was the most fun wedding Aaron and I had been to. Have you ever heard of Oheka Castle? It's a fairytale like setting that was fit only for an amazing couple like those two. Knowing Aimee as well as I do, one of the most important things to her is family. Not only was this a family affair (her family traveling in from Melbourne) but you felt like being family for being there. There was so much love and happiness, I can only hope for a fraction of that on my big day. Cheers to Aimee and Sean!

Smoothie of the Week

Don’t forget to join me on ToGather each week for a yummy Summer Smoothie.  This week was called the Body Balancer, and it kind of reminds me of Chi Tea.  It’s warm (cinnamon), soothing, and a little bit indulgent.

Click here… that will take you to the recipe my friends!

Beauty Obsession: Tahitian Glow Liquid Bronzing Gel, A240555

If I say this and only this, this product is a “Three-stop-Shop.” The idea of summer is to glow, to beam radiance more so than any other time of year.  What Laura brought you in a bottle is the opportunity to add warmth, radiance, and the look of vitality to the skin (the three-stop-shop :) ).

It’s a lightweight gel that’s going to pick up on all of your skins tones, uneven color, and help it to look balanced with a soft warming color.  The radiant pigments inside the formula are built in evenly, so there’s no worrying that the pigments will be settling on top of your skin. What I love most about this bronzing gel is the look of vitality you get from applying.  This formula isn’t a shimmer, it’s a soft-focus, highlighter that brings out the look of lightly bronzed, healthy skin.  What I like so much about this product, you don’t have to be a self-tanner-junkie like myself to get some color.  You can get a touch a natural looking radiance that will help you shine even more than you already do.

The soft-focus  formula is brilliant when applying to your arms and legs.   The way the light hits the formula on your body allows your skin to take on the benefits of a slimming by appearing more toned because of the highlighting effect drawing the eye down.  It’s basically your sexiest skin in a bottle, if I’m honest :)

PS.  Added bonus… dab a little bit of this above the cheek bone for a summer, sultry, highlighted look.  Even better bonus…apply over tined moisturizer and contour with a little bit of bronzer… WOWzers!

What are your thoughts on this idea for Summer Beauty?!

Beauty Is Only Skin Deep…

I am often asked what my skin care regimen is.  I consider it a great compliment, especially if I am not wearing makeup.   I have to thank my mom, grandmother, great grandmother… and on and on and on.  Genetics has a lot to do with it, but I do try to take good care of my skin.  And working at QVC, with the incredible un-ending assortment of skin care and cosmetic brands, I really get the chance to try everything.

In general, my routine is simple.  Cleanse, treat, & moisturize.  I also pay close attention to what my skin needs.  Seasons, temperature, changes in my body, exposure to the sun etc., all effect the combination of products that I use on any given day.  Right now I am using Tatcha Cleansing Oil & Rice Powder Enzyme.  I follow with Peter Thomas Roth Resurfacing Serum, and Hope in a Jar Moisturizer.  Like I said, this is what I am doing now, but if my skin gets really dry, I add Jose Maran’s 100% Argan Oil.

So, that’s my simple skin care routine.  I hope this information was helpful for you.  One of the great things about trying skin care from QVC is there is no risk.  Really, we mean it, try it! If you are not happy, you have a 30-day money back guarantee.

It takes trial and error to find the combo that will work for your unique skin.  Try it, try us.  QVC beauty rocks!!!

Have a Beauty-ful summer!

Summertime pleasures: sun on your skin, sand in your toes, and fresh, beautiful berries as far as the eye can see! For your fourth of July event, make the most of these delicious fruits in season and make cool treats that your guests will love.

 parfait

Red, White & Blue Parfait

Whip up an easy themed treat with your favorite low fat yogurt. Collect blueberries and strawberries and gently layer with yogurt in a tall glass. Don’t forget a dollop of granola on top for good measure!

 kebabs

Fruit Kebabs

Many BBQ’s feature meat & veggie kebabs, but these easy-to-make fruit kebabs are so cute and fun. Use a star shaped cookie cutter to make star-shaped watermelon pieces, then skewer on blueberries and top with a melon star! Making these with the kids is a great activity to get them pumped to play and eat yummy and healthy fruit!

punch

Lightly Flavored Water

This is almost as beautiful to look at as it is delicious! The perfect refresher, just add blueberries, strawberries and again, star-shaped cutouts of pineapple (or feel free to use watermelon if you have leftovers) to water. Let it sit for a while to soak up the flavors, then put it on ice in a clear pitcher for maximum effect.

Editor’s Note: As lovely and tasty as these treats are, blueberries and strawberries are packed with lots of antioxidants, too! Double yum.

What are your favorite ways to use berries this season?

Rangemate Cooking Final Day -- Steak Salad

I thawed a package of Kansas City Steak Tenderloin Tips and made a marinade of worcestershire sauce, bbq sauce and white balsamic italian salad dressing. After letting the meat marinate, I cooked it in the Rangemate pan for about 7 minutes. I sliced the steak tips into bite-sized pieces and tossed them over a salad of mixed greens and tomatoes.

Steak Salad

1 lb steak tips

1/4 cup bbq sauce

1/4 worcestershire sauce

1/4 cup Italian salad dressing

Mix sauces  and salad dressing in a bowl and pour over steak tips and cover. Marinate in the refrigerator until seasoned. Drizzle Rangemate pan with olive oil, place steak in pan and cover with lid. Microwave for 3-4 minutes. Turn steak tips over and microwave for another 3 minutes. Remove steak tips and let them rest before slicing into bite size pieces. Make salad of mixed greens and tomatoes, add sliced steak on top, and dress with remaining Italian salad dressing.

I’ve used the Rangemate pan every day for the last week and it’s been great. I’ve grilled, steamed, poached, and the food tasted great. If you have a microwave, I think you’ll love having this pan. Join me at midnight for our next Today's Special Value.

Enjoy!

How-to Chill Your Summer Drinks & Throw a Festive Party!

$

Hi, everyone!

How much entertaining have you done this summer? I know, I know…it’s only been “summer” for a few days, but I’ve been making the most of the gorgeous weather. And, surely you’ll be doing some entertaining when July 4 rolls around….NEXT WEEK! Where does the time go? Anyway…I’ve got some fun, functional, entertaining ideas that you can try at your next get-together and there’s really nothing to it. You might even have most of the supplies on hand.

First thing’s first: drinks. In the summertime, the colder the better. Why not trade your cooler for something a little more fun?

Okay, you’ve got the drinks chilled. (If you're loving the blue trunk organizer you can find it on QVC.com!) Now let’s talk about the tabletop. How do you really incorporate the look and feel of summer onto your table? Answer: beach buckets…complete with the shovel!

Summer Table Setting

Sand Bucket Salads

The easiest way to decorate is to use things that remind you of the season. Blow up beach balls and scatter them around the yard. Drape brightly colored beach towels on your yard chairs. Scatter seashells—and maybe a fishing net across the center of the table. You can also take paper plates—the foundation of every summer picnic and fold them into bowls just like you see in the photo. I made those for our Pool Party episode on You’re Home with Jillthat you can still watch on QVC.com. You can watch EVERY episode from the season, too!

I’ll blog with you again next Tuesday—then every Tuesday throughout the summer. In the meantime, you should start thinking about your July 4 party menu…check out my recipes on QVC.com!

From my home to yours,
—Jill

MBR and LJD together again!

Hello my LCNY fashionistas!

I am so excited for our show on Wednesday! It has been several weeks since MBR and LJD have been together.

This spring was crazy busy for both of us from both of our sons graduating high school to helping them choose colleges to my daughter's wedding (which Mary Beth and Mark attended), to the LCNY TSV which was an awesome day with a great dress.

Vacations snuck in there for both of us and now I am excited to say we are back.  We are like peanut butter and jelly, pancakes and syrup, eggs and bacon.....the combination just makes sense. Wednesdays with Mary Beth puts a smile on my face and I hope it does the same for you. So join us at 9am tomorrow morning......bring your cup of joe, maybe a donut to share....but most of all, bring your friendship, because that is what we are bringing.

I thought you might enjoy a couple pics of the two of us.:)

Buddies!! Need I say more?!?!

Heath Bars

  • Saltines (soda crackers)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 6 oz. chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with sides with wax (parchment paper). Grease the paper with butter and line with crackers from end to end. In a sauce pan on low to medium heat, stir together the brown sugar and butter until the butter is completely melted. Pour the mixture over the crackers and bake for 5 minutes. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over entire pan. Let stand until the chocolate chips melt and then spread like you would frosting. Sprinkle with chopped nuts, if desired.

Elizabeth took these to share with her classmates on the last day of school. She said they were a big hit and I, of course, love them!

I'm sorry I only have pictures to share of the finished product and not step-by-step. They do say the memory is the first to go! : )

I cut them into squares with a pizza cutter.

Cinderella for a Day: Oheka Castle & Aimee Kestenberg's Wedding!

Oheka Castle in Huntington New York, was built about 100 years ago by Otto Hermann Kahn. He spent $11 million to build this summer home, which is the equivalent of $110 million in today's money. This 127-room castle is the second largest residence ever built and was the location of many a lavish party. Throughout the years, it fell into disrepair. It was abandoned for a period of time when vandals damaged the property and even set a number of fires. The castle was purchased in 1984 by a developer who undertook the daunting task of restoring this beautiful property. With the help of historians, artists,  architects and different groups, Oheka castle has undergone a $30 million restoration. (This is the largest restoration in American history.) This beautiful landmark, which has been used for movies like "Citizen Kane" and the TV series  "Royal Pains" is once again open for business. The grand estate and Gardens are host to beautiful weddings, corporate retreats, overnight guests and daily tours. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is once again, the national treasure it deserves to be. I cannot believe I did not know that this castle existed! I was thrilled to be able to attend Aimee Kestenberg and Sean Elan's wedding there. I also thought it would be nice to share pictures of both the wedding and the castle. After all, how many times in your life do you get to go to a wedding in a real castle?!

Finding Beauty in the Past

Have you ever read a book that changed the course of your life? I have.

Book

Years ago, I was welcomed into the inner world of the geisha and learned of their rituals. I also heard whispers of a book, written centuries ago, to detail the beauty secrets of Japan’s Edo Period. Handwritten in delicate calligraphy, the book detailed the style, grooming, and rituals of the time. It is considered the oldest beauty book written in Japan, possibly the oldest in existence.

The journey to find this book took months—some thought no surviving copies existed, while others had never even heard of it. I searched in museums, auction houses, and antique bookstores in Kyoto.

After months, I uncovered an original version of the precious text hidden in the dusty back room of a bookstore. When I held it in my hands, I could barely breathe from excitement and awe. The whisper-thin pages recorded centuries of secrets stunningly relevant in today’s beauty world.

Within the three delicate, thread-bound volumes, seven chapters instructed on beauty and elegance in both appearance and spirit. The first chapter lists many ingredients native to Japan, but three appeared throughout the book: green tea, rice bran, and red algae. These ingredients are also the foundation of the Japanese diet—as the geisha explained to me, skin is simply the body’s largest organ.

Working with scientists, I learned that each ingredient is prized by modern technology for its skin benefits. Light plant oils, including camellia and rice bran oil, are beloved oils in Japan for their skin-loving benefits; red algae and rice bran extract help with moisturization; and green tea extract is an antioxidant that helps fight free radical attack.

I was amazed to hear that these humble ingredients, beloved for centuries in Japan, have become so prized by the scientific community. Using unique extraction techniques, we blended green tea, Japanese rice bran, and Okinawa red algae into our signature blend, called the HADASEI-3 Bioactive Complex. The name, hadasei, refers to the quality of skin renewed and reborn.

The HADASEI-3 Bioactive Complex lies at the heart of every TATCHA formula, a reminder that science can only illuminate what nature showed us long ago.

It has been an exciting couple of months at our house with the new addition to our family, Jace. He is such a great baby in all aspects... terribly cute and also a great sleeper! Jericho is adjusting well into her roll as as a big sister. She loves being around him and is always trying to help Mommy and Daddy out. Unfortunately she just isn't big enough to really step in during the moments when we could really use an extra set of hands!!

I wanted to share some photos we had taken after Jace was born. Warning: They are dangerously cute and you may find yourself tearing up.... Or maybe that was just me and my husband!!

Special thanks to Beth Erisman for the beautiful photos. We will cherish these forever. To see more of Beth's work you can visit her page. {http://betherisman.com/#!/HOME}

Everything Glitters in Vegas!

Vegas baby! Earlier this month I attended JCK, the leading jewelry event in North America. Our jewelry team attends each year to see what’s hot, what’s new, and what’s next (and to place orders for our QVC selection). I spent time with each buyer to learn about jewelry, and how we procure our amazing assortment. Fun, right?

These are some of my fearless leaders-- Natalie, Peyton, David, and Jennifer.

Each of our jewelry buyers meets with a variety of vendors. In each meeting our buyers select pieces and make design adjustments. On day one, Natalie and I combed through tray after tray of gold. What struck me immediately is that all gold does not look alike! At QVC we select gold with a certain “recipe,” one that has that lovely golden hue. Natalie was selecting pieces for our Klondike Gold Rush.

We saw diamonds in unlimited designs and carat weights. Of course I particularly like the kitty cat designs :)

In our diamond meeting I learned how to use a loupe. There is a lot the naked eye doesn’t see! I’m particularly proud of the QVC quality assurance process, and the fact that our stated carat weights are the minimum weights you can expect to receive. Bet you didn’t know that you could actually have more diamond content than you thought :)

Natalie also buys for Steel by Design. I always select a Steel by Design bracelet for my Wednesday Wrist Wrap posts on Facebook, so I particularly liked this sleeve of bracelets…

I saw this model in our Diamonique meeting. You can see the steps the material goes through to get from “rough” to a finished Diamonique stone.

I spent the next day with Jennifer. She was selecting pieces for our Sleeping Beauty turquoise assortment, our January Gem Day (amethyst and garnets), and colored gemstones overall. Heads up- the opal is hot and getting hotter!

I had fun trying on beautiful pieces like this $418k rare Paraiba tourmaline necklace.

And these $100k Champagne diamond earrings Halle Berry wore for a red carpet appearance.

We were in Vegas after all, so some of the team hit the nightclub in Mandalay Bay --Natalie, Jennifer, Allison, and David.

David and I selected gold pieces, and saw some of the hot new trends. These earpieces only require one ear piercing to get these great looks. And bracelets continue to be hot, especially multi-row and big and bold bracelets.

This necklace and earring set feature a technique where the metal is folded back to create beautiful texture and shine. This earring looks like it’s filled with diamonds, but it’s actually a glitter material that flickers and shines similar to the real thing.

JCK closed with a gala dinner. This is part of the QVC team whose years of experience and expertise result in our amazing sparkly assortment at QVC ---David, Peyton, Jennifer, Michele, Bill Pollack, Diane, Carolyn Pollack, Allison, Natalie.

What did I learn? That there are thousands of pieces of jewelry out there, and that our team does an amazing job of procuring superb pieces for every budget. What would you love to add to your wardrobe?

Susie Q Sailing!

In preparation for my nautical show, Richie and I decided to go sailing! I wore my new nautical tops and Pebbles her cute new life jacket... It was a beautiful day! We first stopped at a local deli in town and picked up sandwiches chips and cookies for the sail. After arriving at the boat, we settled in, Richie raised the sails and we were off into the Long Island Sound! We had lots of wind. The boat heeled over to one side and back again as we cut through the waves. I laid out on the deck while Richie did most of the work. I try and help when I can :). The sun was shining, wind was blowing and other boaters were out enjoying the day. Couldn't ask for a better day!

Susan

Travel Tales -- A Recap From Our QVC Sprouts Trip

$

If you aren't familiar with QVC Sprouts, I will give you a little background about what it is. Have you ever seen Shark Tank? You know, the show where aspiring entrepreneurs present ideas, inventions, etc. to a panel of experts in hopes of launching their ideas with some sturdy investors behind them.

QVC Sprouts is a lot like Shark Tank except in this case, YOU are part of this "panel of experts." A team from QVC attends a convention called the INPEX where inventors and entrepenurs display their products and ideas. I am part of this team and absolutely love to witness all of the creative magic! What we do at the INPEX convention is evaluate each entrepreneur and his/her presentation and decide what to bring back for YOU to vote on. I know, how very Lori Greiner of us!

I'm sharing my QVC Sprouts Adventure with you from start to finish. From my packing technique all the way to the amazing and surprising inventors we met that day. I can't tell you too much because remember this is all coming soon!

Leading up to Our Trip:

Of course I waited until the very last minute to pack for the trip, but as a working Mother of 3 with a far-from-normal schedule, do you expect anything less?

Despite my packing tardiness, I'd like to think I have mastered the art of packing, no thanks to some of my favorite QVC products coming in clutch travel sizes! Not sure why I've always loved travel size beauty items, but I do, and QVC certainly tailors to this passion of mine.

Exhibit A: The Discovery Kit. Have you seen these kits yet? They come with some of QVC's best products all in small sizes making it easy to take my beauty luxuries on the road, oh and here is the best part.. for $19!

Here are some of the other travel-size items that make up my travel toiletry bag. Do you see anything here that you would never leave for vaca without?

(Vita Liberata Faux Tan, Mally Lipstick, It Cosmetics Brow Power, WEN travel packets.)

Since we are still on the topic of beauty, here's a look at my beauty travel bag. I like to stay on the light when it comes to packing my beauty products because isn't vacation all about relaxing? It doesn't hurt to go a little au natural every once and a while right? Here are some of the items I can't live without, including the new Laura Geller Spring Into Baked Collection I'm loving for Summer. ;-)

(Mally BB Brightening and Beyond Collection, Peter Thomas Roth Mascara, Laura Geller Spring Into Baked Collection )

Now I know how precious luggage space is when it comes to packing for vacation, but I also consider my hairdo a number one priority no matter where I am! I don't trust any old hotel hair dryer, so I always bring along my T3 for the trip. It takes up as much room as a pair of shoes, so I leave a pair behind just to ensure a good hair day!

Now that my Heys luggage was packed I filled my carry on with all the plane necessities. Meet my new found love and traveling companion, the G.I.L.I. Lizard Hobo. This thing is so spacious. I'm not kidding. I'm literally able to put everything that was in my Heys overnight bag into my tote. Imagine going on a trip and being able to bring souvenirs and extra purchases home without breaking a sweat! Plus looking so chic and stylish at the same time. Yeah baby, that's what I'm talking about.

 Airport Life:

One of my all-time favorite things to do is people watch! And what better place to people watch than the airport... Especially when your flight is delayed! Of course when I saw this gorgeous scrolled red handbag I had to walk right up to the perfect stranger and ask where she got it. I was a bit disaapointed to find out she spotted it at a craft show, but I had to give it to her... She's got some great taste! :-)

With all the wonky weather and flight delays I needed a bit of fast fuel. My co-workers were all laughing hysterically when they realized I was going to eat all of this myself. A woman with this much energy just doesn't run on coffee people!

As we were loading (a process that no human in this world actually enjoys) I couldn't help but notice another great bag. If I'm not mistaken, this was a QVC exclusive from Dooney & Bourke. Yep you guessed it, I ran into another Q Queen Bee and I couldn't help myself... I walked right over and started chatting.

WE MADE IT!:

Once we finally made it into Pittsburgh, the team met up for an amazing Italian meal at the Lydia Bastianich restaurant. I was completely taken back by this amazing light fixture. It was kind of mesmerizing.

Of course the food was out of this world. And yes, we did splurge on dessert. :-)

Let's Meet The Inventors:
Once we got down to work, it was a whirlwind of wonderful people and amazing ideas. We have been partnering with the INPEX for several years now and some of our best QVC Sprouts winners were born right on this stage.

I'm giving you a quick sneak peek at a really cool kitchen item that I bet David Venable would just love to get his hands on! Maybe you will get a closer look at this product on QVC soon! ;)

We even saw an inventor as young as 11!!! Just goes to show that great ideas have no age limit :-)

If you would like to see some of the amazing things that are born from QVC Sprouts and to vote on what is to come, click here >> QVC Sprouts

Voting takes place every two weeks. The winning product will have an opportunity to be purchased online.

So all in all it was another sucessful QVC Sprouts trip. Hope you enjoyed my travel tales and tips!! Do you have any ideas that could put you on the map for the QVC Sprouts??

10 years ago today it was raining all morning - and as we drove to the church the sky cleared and the sun came out.  It was our wedding day - June 26, 2004.

Jim and I met at QVC and were very good friends.  He kept causally asking me out, but as a newer host my schedule was tricky.  Finally when we went out on our first date - it was great. When we got engaged everyone was thrilled - and not surprised!

My mother was unable to travel at the time to attend the wedding - so I was privileged to have my brother Paul walk me down the aisle.

Our wedding party was: My Maid Of Honor - one of my best friends Laura, her daughter Korreena was the flower girl, former QVC Host Patti Reilly and yes, QVC Host Lisa Robertson!  For the guys, it was my Stepson Jimi as the Best Man, Jim's best friends Mike, Joe and QVC Host Dan Hughes.

Can you name all the past and present QVC hosts???

When picking the bridesmaids dresses - I went with black and options for each one of them to dress to their style!  Whew!

At the reception - my Stepson Jimi caught the garter ---- and we made sure that Lisa Robertson caught the bouquet!!!  He was so happy to take a picture with her!  He was 12 years old at that time!

10 years later - we have our beautiful daughter Theresa to add even more happiness to our lives!  And now our doggie Gracie!

Kiss the bride!

(Can you tell who the person behind me is by her gorgeous smile???)

Married!

What advice do you have or have received for a happy marriage?

I'm excited to see how our marriage evolves in our next 10 years together!

Happy Anniversary Jim - I love you!

In Training for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk in September

Many of you know I'm training for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk in September.  I've wanted to the walk for the last couple of years, but it just wasn't the right time.  This year seems to the year...I'll be 5 years cancer-free in Oct & I turned 50 in June!  So, why not do something BIG!  :)  My friend, Carolyn Pollack (who has walked it 8 times) is walking with me.  It should be a wildly fun 3 days!

Anyhoo, for motivation & shameless advertising, I decided to make a few t-shirts to wear while I'm walking & wanted to share my "works of art" with you.  (I'm NOT crafty, so don't judge! LOL!)

I went to Michael's to pick up the supplies I needed.  My first attempt was a bit disastrous.  I chose to use stencils & fabric spray paint.  Boy was that messy! Plus, I didn't have all the numbers and letters I needed; so I improvised.

After the paint dried, I put a breast cancer ribbon on the front of the shirt.  (Not sure if the placement was fabu.)

In the end, my first attempt, wasn't so disastrous.  In all honesty, I don't care what it looks like, it's fun to wear!  :)

My 2nd attempt was much easier.

My friend, Kristen, suggested I use a bleach pen & just write the info on the back of the shirt.  SHE'S SO SMART! This picture was taken before the bleach had the time to set in; but it worked great!

Of course, I ironed a breast cancer ribbon on the front on this tee as well.

Many of you have asked how you can support my walk and training.  I would love if you would send me a picture when you see a "spot of support" like the waste can I spotted a while ago.

It will be like your training with me, which will bring me great joy!  Can't wait to see what you find!!

Lots of Love...Nancy
