Although the TATCHA collection was born from a centuries-old beauty book, sometimes inspiration can come from very modern places. I hear lots of ideas and suggestions from friends and customers, many of which lead to an exciting new product.
My good friend and TATCHA supporter Daniel Martin is one of these amazing people. A celebrated editorial makeup artist, Daniel dresses the faces that grace magazine covers daily. He's an inspiration to many of his colleagues and friends, myself included.
Daniel reached out to tell me that he loves our Okinawa Red Algae. And he asked if we could somehow concentrate it into a serum and bottle it, as this would allow him to quickly prep the skin before applying makeup on famous faces.
I was happy to oblige, and the Luminous Deep Hydration Firming Serum was created. Daniel was delighted, and he told me the serum quickly became a favorite on the red carpet.
Although it was originally created to hydrate and help skin appear more firm, Daniel discovered that it worked well as a primer because the serum allows the skin and makeup to become one. “What makes it special is that it isn’t sticky” he wrote me after the frenzy of red-carpet season. “It doubles the hydration on the skin and allows foundation to lock on for long wear.”
Kyoko Getz, a Japanese esthetician in Los Angeles, also reached out to say she loved mixing the serum with foundation to create a tinted moisturizer. “It gives your skin a beautiful sheen and luster,” she said, “making it a perfect tsuya hada!” She explained that tsuya hada refers to dewy, glowing skin, as lustrous as a pearl.
I loved hearing about these unexpected uses for the Luminous Deep Hydration Firming Serum. How do you use yours? Tell us in the comments below.
