Stylist Scott Grimes and his Mom, Madonna (love the necklace!)

One of the sweetest words in the world:  Mom, Madre, Mother, Mãe, Nana, Mère, Maji, Mutter... no matter how you spell it, the meaning is the same, LOVE.  They say, ‘God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.’  Although the role of a mother has changed throughout history, one thing has always remained consistent and that is what they give:  life, love, protection, hope, and dreams to children, both young and old.

I have always shared a very special connection with my Mom.  Growing up, I thought she could do anything, simply because she appeared to do everything.  At 40 years old and expecting my first child any day, I can only hope my child feels the same way about me that I feel about my Mom.  I truly believe the relationship with your mom is one of the most important relationships you will ever have.

Years ago, I gave my Mom a Tiffany’s diamond cross necklace.  Her expression was priceless when she saw that iconic Tiffany blue box.  At first she refused to open it and told me I was crazy for spending that kind of money on her, but once she opened it, she had that necklace on in no time.  Since the day I gave it her, she has never taken it off.  My Mom says that no matter where I am in the world, she can touch her cross and know that I am with her.  Every Mother’s Day since then, I have given her a special and unique piece of jewelry. This has become our tradition and memory maker.

This Mother’s Day is going to be extra special because it’ll be the first year my Mom receives a piece from our new JAI John Hardy Collection.  I know she’ll love the gift, a beautiful silver cuff (J279140) – and not just because I gave it to her!  I was actually picturing her unique style as I was working with the artisans to curate this particular piece for the collection.  It reflects her natural taste:  effortlessly chic with classic appeal and a touch of glamour.  The design of the cuff was inspired by the city of Sukhothai in Thailand, a region widely considered to be the birth place of classic Thai architecture.  The clean lines of the sterling silver cable echo the reflection of the ornate monuments in the ponds filled with sacred lotus flowers, a symbol of purity and strength, their sensual shape reproduced on the piece in 14K gold.  The elegant ribbon of diamonique that gently contours the cuff imitates the flow of the traditional ribbons braided in the local women’s hair.

If you want to be the first to see this beautiful cuff along with some of our other new JAI John Hardy pieces, tune in to the Lisa Robertson Show tonight at 10PM EST to join us as she shares some of her favorite new designs.  You know how much Lisa loves her cross pendants (J276526).

I want to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Mother’s Day!

Safe Travels,

Scott Grimes
