I am so much better knowing why I'm worth it and owning the great things about me, so that I can give more of myself to others and to the world. When we are kids, we are mostly taught to give to others and that giving to ourselves is a selfish act. I am here to say that we need to teach our children and ourselves a new lesson! Unless we learn how to be loved and how to receive, we will find ourselves empty and feeling unfulfilled -- literally un-full-filled. I learned about my own self-worth a few years ago when I was doing some personal growth work. I realized then that I had become really good at taking care of others -- or so I thought.
People are like human bank accounts. We have to fill up our “self-worth bank” before we can actually have anything to give. So many times we think we are giving, but we aren't full ourselves, so what we are giving is just a fraction of what's possible from us and not really authentic to who we truly are. The art of receiving is something I practice every day. I spend a few minutes each day filling up with what I am grateful for and I see my self-worth bank account filling up; so I can be as much of myself as possible and give as much of myself as possible to the world.
Another practice I have is when someone gives me a compliment or says something sweet to me, I truly honor what is said and take it in fully. These little tools allow me to know I am worth it and to walk courageously and authentically in my life. I wish someone had taught me this when I was a girl, so I have committed to sharing this lesson with my two daughters and as many people as I can in my life.
What makes you unique and awesome? Own it and see your life fill up with so much more love.
Blessings,
Josie
