I wanted to do something different this week. Usually, I have a blog about the Friday night meal, because anything that's frozen that is ordered during my show (Mondays at 5pm eastern!) will get there by Friday. But, this week we've got wines coming up at the end of the show, so I thought it would be fun to do an easy cheese tray.
Now, I am not an expert on wine, but I know that it is made from grapes that are stomped on by funny women. Well, at least that’s what I learned from reruns of I Love Lucy! I also don’t know what wines are supposed to go with which foods, or if 2007 was a good year in some of the California vineyards. I go strictly by taste. If I like a wine, I’ll drink it. If not, I give it to my husband!
I am fortunate to work at QVC where we get to sample many kinds of wine from Vintage Wine Estates. The good part is I enjoy so many of the wines that I get to sample. The bad part is my husband doesn’t get any of my wine leftovers! (Insert smiley face here) I know it can be intimidating to put a wine and cheese tray together. So, I have tried to keep it simple and list cheeses that we all know, to get the party started! The fun part is, there are no "right" answers. Everyone's opinion is different, and that's okay! It's so much fun when everyone gets in on the conversation!
Easy Cheese Tray
Variety Pack of Vintage Wine Estates containing:
Moscato
Sauvignon Blanc
Pinot Noir
Cabernet
Cheeses:
Extra Sharp Cheddar
Goat cheese
Gruyere
Brie
Danish Blue Cheese
Gouda
Pair the Moscato with the Danish Blue, and the Sauvignon Blanc with extra sharp cheddar or goat cheese. Pair the Pinot Noir with Gruyere or Brie, and the Cabernet with the Danish Blue Cheese or the Gouda. Easy! The different cheeses bring out different flavors in the wine. You may want to have grapes or apples on hand to pair as well. Honeycrisp apples are my favorite! Also, don't forget that there are no rules here. You can pair any of the wines with any of the cheeses, and just see what happens. You may be surprised at what you like!
I'm also really excited to debut an item that I helped to create! Germack has some of the best fruit and nut mixes on the planet. We had so many requests for a crunchy, savory mix, without fruits, that we decided to create one! If you want the sneak peek early, click here. But just remember that the price expires at the end of the day on Monday, and I have the only presentation that day. See you on Monday at 5pm, and bring your appetite!
