Thankful For Love!
My parents were married on November 25, 1948. My Mom, Ginny, was raised in Mahanoy City PA, and the nuptial Mass and reception were held in her home town. Her dress, ivory silk satin, came from New York City and she looked beautiful. My Dad, “Rudy” was turned out in morning attire looking so handsome! But the coolest thing about their wedding day was that it fell on Thanksgiving Day. They wanted to have all friends and family around them so instead of the typical weekend wedding, they chose Thanksgiving Day. The reception was a celebration of love, with, of course, a full turkey dinner. We have movies of the day, and one shot is the Thanksgiving Day parade making its way down the main street of town. For years, as a child, I was convinced the parade was for their wedding!
So in our house Thanksgiving was always a celebration of their wedding day. Even if the 25th fell on another day of the week, we still always celebrated their anniversary on Thanksgiving. I grew up in a house in Springfield PA and over the fireplace hung a print of an autumn scene. My Mom loved to decorate in fall tones so our house seemed to be just meant for Thanksgiving. When we moved into our home a few years back there was a space over the fireplace that was the right size for that print, and it hangs there to this day in my home. I see it every day and always think of my Mom and Dad.
This Thanksgiving I am grateful for so much, especially the love of my parents who shaped future generations. I am also so grateful to you for being with me all these years on QVC. You are a blessing to me!
Happy Thanksgiving
