Has everyone heard that Radiant Orchid is the pantone color of the year for 2014? I have to admit that I've always wondered how these colors are picked each year and who does it.... how about you? Well I did a little research. The color is announced each year from Pantone which is a company who created a color matching system that you see in various manufacturing industries... not just fashion. Do you remember the day of learning your primary colors? Well they are the base of all colors, but each color has it's own unique recipe. That is what Pantone has created. They hold two big meetings each year for color experts from around the world to discuss and decide on what the new color should be. Trend predictions are a big influence, but also the feel and vibe of society is another huge consideration. They assess the mood of society and because every color exudes a particular kinds of emotion, they decide on what they think society could use for the year. For example, last year emerald was chosen based on the fact that emerald is a color that evokes growth and renewal. This year the selection of radiant orchid was picked for it's inspiration, confidence and encouraging creativity. What do you think? Did you feel growth and renewal last year and are you ready to be creative and and confident this year? Honestly, if someone said we chose it just because it's a pretty color, I'd be cool with that.
So, radiant orchid.... what is that color exactly? I'll admit it... I was wondering myself. It's in the purple family with undertones of pink and fuchsia. The color is represented by a purple Phaleonopsis Orchid.

As we approach the middle of the winter, I follow closely the weather forecast in America and I cannot believe how much snow you’re getting this year!
In Israel, we are not used to such cold weather and although it is quite cold during the winter, it never gets that cold and we normally reach 50 degrees, which means we wear light jackets most of the time. When I started to think about our upcoming January event, which is the largest PAZ event of the year (total of 10 hours), I wanted to create a collection that was going to make you smile when you open the box. I wanted to create a collection that is going to look fresh, different, and will remind you of sunny days and blooming flowers.
I used a lot of turquoise which is one of my favorite gemstones. I used to like it mainly for the Summertime but now I love it all year long as I think the beautiful blue (we are using only the top quality genuine turquoise) will brighten up your winter wardrobe with a graceful color. I love the way it looks with the Or Paz look and we will present a new cross (J289811) and bracelet (J290019, J290020, and J290021)
I’m mostly excited about the two new additions to the collections we launched in December! The first item is the leather bracelet (J290286) which is the second item in the Garden collection. I love the way this bracelet came out and I have never created such a dimensional piece of jewelry. We used an Italian magnetic clasp in 3 different colors – black, camel, and green. Definitely one of my favorites for this visit!
The second item is the new cuff (J289818) which is the latest addition to the Lace collection! This is a special collection that combines different cultures and eras.

Q:Will the middle of the mattress hump up, as did the two Serta's I've owned in past two years?
A: Many of Serta’s top quality mattresses use technologically advanced foams and fibers that are designed to be softer and more comfortable whileproviding your body has the with support you need. By cradling your body, these materials help to provide pressure relieving comfort near the sleep surface. For that reason, in the first few weeks you sleep on a new mattress that offers these extra comfort layers, you will likely notice some body impressions on the mattress surface.
These impressions are normal and shouldn't be considered a sign that something is wrong with your new mattress. You may want to rotate your mattress from end-to-end and from top-to-bottom. After a few weeks, the impressions will begin to smooth out and, over time, disappear.
Q:How long do they stay firm/supportive?
A: The warranty card is included with every bed sold. The manufacturer's limited warranty is a product warranty, not a "comfort" warranty. It warrants against manufacturing defects in workmanship and material ONLY (excluding the cover), and can become void if the unit is soiled or not cared for properly. Be sure to keep the law tag on at the end of the mattress. The tag has important manufacturing information about your mattress that you will need in the event of a warranty claim.

Q: I live in a second floor apartment. Will Serta deliver the mattresses to my apartment? Thanks

Q: Where do they haul away the "old" mattress set to? Will they just leave it outside of my home?
A: The mattress set will be put on the truck and removed from the customer's property and properly disposed of.

Q: What is the comfort scale--firm, medium or soft?

Q: Are the coils individually wrapped? Do you offer low profile box springs?
A: The Serta Envelop Super Pillowtop Mattress Coils are not individually wrapped. Serta's Coil System is a Continuous Support Innerspring made with strong tempered steel. Rows of continuous coils made from tempered steel work to provide support along the entire length of the body. Each coil attaches to the coils around it and runs head to toe for stability and durability, and helps to absorb motion. Total Edge Foam Encasement helps prevent sagging at the mattress edges while extending your sleep surface, so you have more room to stretch. This encasement design reinforces the mattress edges with extra foam support. This particular mattress is only available with a low profile foundation.

One of the most important things I learned when I started out in fashion is that it’s always important to listen to the women who are actually wearing your clothes. After my last December shows, I took a long awaited restful vacation, spent mostly with family and friends, catching up on my reading, relaxing, taking long walks with Ron in Florida and, as usual, making, with the best of intentions, my new year resolutions. Chief among them were to focus on eating well (including no more French fries). But so far, so good, except for the French fries.
I would certainly love to hear about your resolutions and how well you are doing keeping them. So write in and share.
Can you believe it has been over six weeks since I was last on QVC? I am so very much looking forward to being on air again. I actually enjoy the experience very much, especially the telephone calls which give me the opportunity to talk with you. I also learn so much from your feedback on the products when you respond to my blogs and your requests for specific designs or stone colors you wish me to produce in the future.
The February 2nd shows (a TSV and programming throughout the day and evening) are jam packed with new items and what I hope will become a celebrated tradition – one of a kind offers, special pricing and super surprises, which will be offered only during the half time of the Big Sunday Game. Last year, we created and introduced these special “half time surprises” which were so well received that we have done it again this year, and if it works again, will become a traditional part of the Judith Ripka Big Game program. But, like last year, these offers will begin and end with halftime. So stay tuned during half time or you will miss them. And to make it truly a surprise, we will not offer any previews.
So now to products I can preview. In December, I premiered the special Judith Ripka Double Brilliant Cut Stone (118 facets), created solely for me in a collaboration among Swarovski, QVC and me. Each stone, in each design, has my name laser inscribed on its table. The 118 facets, an extraordinary achievement in stone cutting by the Swarovski master cutters, have over two times the facets of a traditional brilliant cut gemstone. It sparkles and shines in a doubly brilliant way. One of the new styles I am introducing using the 118 facet Double Brilliant stones is a cuff (J288478 in silver) (J288479 in choice of rose or yellow gold clad).
It will come in all sizes, small, average and large and has stone clusters bezel set with my special angled beige texture on the sides and my signature hinge for ease of fit. This piece is a part of a suite and coordinates with the ring, earring and pendant that I launched in December (J288480, J288484, J288485, J288486, J288487 and J288489)
which, if you missed them, are available on QVC.com.
I am also premiering the first pieces of my new Amber collection, which I promised to you, when I wrote about my trip to St. Petersburg, Russia, where I visited the very special Amber Room of The Hermitage Museum. Amber is a traditional Russian gemstone, which is found in clay about 30 meters below the surface west of Kalinigrad and also in the seabeds in the Baltic region. Baltic Amber is especially known for its golden color. Amber has been used in Russia since the Middle Ages as a medicinal gem. It is claimed to have crystal healing properties and its resinous extract has been used to cure and alleviate a variety of health issues. My Russian friends have told me that it carries a “sunny” energy and wards off negativity. It helps to cheer up the body and is believed to draw sickness away from it.
So look for an Amber ring, earrings and pendant throughout the shows and especially a cross enhancer which features a pear shaped cabochon of Amber at the arms (J290380).
Another new collection will be a suite of Rhodochrosite jewelry which I chose in keeping with my theme of health and renewal in the New Year. Like Amber, Rhodochrosite, also known as “Inca Rose” stone, which comes in a variety of shades from bright red to soft pink, is an excellent conductor of energy and is reputed to soothe the heart, generate warm feelings of love and compassion, promote circulation and kidney health. I will be present a coordinating ring (J290449) and cuff (J290448).
Then, of course, the coup de grace, the TSV. I am very excited about this TSV. The design which catapulted me into the big time was my PN necklace and bracelet system. It was the single most important piece of jewelry I ever made as it became the foundation of my interchangeable, versatile, day into night jewelry system.
A friend of mine brought me her pearls, which she wore during her college days and into her early adulthood. She never wore them anymore as she felt that they were staid and out dated. She asked me to modernize them, to do something to make them exciting and wearable again.
Inspiration immediately struck. I added removable textured links between the pearls and depending upon the number of links I added could be made into a long necklace or short one, and the links could be removed to form a separate necklace or bracelet, again depending upon the number of links. Thus, the pearl necklace system could be transformed into six different pieces of jewelry – an all pearl necklace, a short pearl necklace with gold or silver links, a long pearl necklace with more links, a short all gold or silver necklace, a long link necklace or a bracelet. My friends, staid pearl necklace had a new life as a multi-faceted and versatile piece of jewelry which could be fashioned into multiple looks and wears depending on her whim and fancy. I took out ads which read “Bring me Your Pearls” or “Diamonds are a Pearl’s best friend” to let the world know that the old pearl necklace nestled in the jewelry box and never worn could be reborn into this exciting jewelry system. Soon the Department stores and jewelry stores around the county were calling me to sell them this system.
Those of you who have my coffee table book, have the story and pictures of the original system and the gold and diamond links which I made for them.
Now my QVC customers can have their own sterling silver and cultured pearl necklace system. My most iconic piece, from me with love to you in either all sterling (J290467) or 14k gold clad (J209468).
So tune in starting midnight February 2nd and throughout the day and evening to see these new products as well as the special surprises during half time of the Big Sunday Game.

Ingredients
2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
1 cup sour cream
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
5 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda

That’s why a Garden Journal will become your new best friend – always there for you, giver of great advice and memories! Let’s put it this way, if I were on a sinking ship, I’m gonna save my haggard garden journals first...sorry family. Seriously, I’ve noticed over the years that I am at my most creative and constructive when I am using my hands whether jotting down a hedge design, planting tomatoes in my garden or making a centerpiece for my dining room table.
Get started by purchasing a waterproof monthly planner complete with ample room for your notes and observations. Make notations each day; first frost, last frost, seed planting and germination dates, time of bloom, first fruits, fertilizing, and “what worked” and “what didn’t work just yet.” These notes and observation will become invaluable references for you for years to come.
I also create sections in my journal for ideas, pictures, and garden dreams. Pictures of my projects on an on-going or rather on-growing basis are wonderful visual references I refer to constantly. I also like to keep photographs of plants and designs I see on my travels or even from neighbor’s yards. And don’t forget doodling any idea is, while if like mine illegible, always a great way to put your green-thumb creativity to work. So have fun and dig in!

First let me share with you this. I know I have told you about my dear friend Sharon Rostorf-Zamir. She is one of the most celebrated and talented opera singers in the world and her home is Israel. Last Saturday we had a girl’s morning over a cup of tea in one of our favorite cafes in Tel Aviv. If you have time look her up, she has such an amazing story and career.
She always wants to see my latest collections and this time I really surprised her. This collection is inspired by all my experiences with her on her opening nights around the world. I love the anticipation and excitement that comes with opening nights. The curtains rising, the orchestra warming up, goose bumps for me!

You may have heard somewhere (yes…I’m looking at you, DAVID!) that it’s my birthday today. And it’s a big one! Forty fabulous years. But you won’t find me worrying about the number. The bigger the number, the bigger the party, right? AND the bigger the cake. 
But milestone birthdays do make you stop and think, don’t they? Like recently, when someone said to me, “You’re handling this whole 40 thing much better than I did.” And it really surprised me. Because I really and truly do believe birthdays are something to celebrate, no matter what the number. Because if you don’t take time to celebrate the good things in your life…well, it’s like missing out on your own party, isn’t it?
So, here’s how I’m partying this birthday – by counting down the 40 things I’m so grateful to celebrate in my life. And you’re invited!
40. Cake! The only thing that’s better than cake, in my opinion, is birthday cake. No matter how many candles are on it.
39. Traditions. When I was a kid, my Mom always made me feel so very special on my birthday. It’s just not a birthday for me if I don’t get the chance to share it with her. And I can’t wait to see what she has in store for my 40th!
38. Party Music. Don’t laugh. I make myself a birthday mix every year. This year, Pitbull’s getting me in the party mood!
37. Good Friends. I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful circle of friends to help me celebrate. (And check out that cake!)

Today January 30th is my youngest son's 18th birthday. I can remember like it was yesterday finding out that I was pregnant with our fourth and the excitement of being a new mom again. There is always a story to be told with the last one and his was exciting. It was a couple days past his due date and me feeling very ready to have him and we had already made a trip to the hospital (false alarm). I told my husband Larry to go to the Sixers basketball game...I was fine....you are ONLY an hour away. Wrong! Kevin decided, I am sure, as his father finally got to his seat it was time to come. Lots of chaos, Larry flying home from the game....then a 45 minute ride extremely uncomfortable to the hospital you can only imagine the conversation on that ride IE: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING..and alas our baby. Eighteen years later he still keeps me on my toes. His can do attitude..his shining blue eyes...the way he hugs me hello and goodbye and kisses the top of my head. His laughter that fills the house...his determination to do it his way. But most of all his passion. Kevin will be leaving for college this fall......he has not made his choice yet. I have had eighteen years to teach him, love him, show him, encourage him and empower him. He has grown in to the young man I knew he would be when I held him at birth. This will be a tough one to drop off at college. We have weathered the unthinkable together. It is now his time to shine! Happy birthday my darling baby boy Davies...

Valentine’s Day is almost here! Can you feel the dread in the air? Yes, you read that right.
