Potluck Protocol!

$
0
0

I’ve been to at least three potluck parties in the last two months. Potlucks are fun, and deciding what to bring can be just as fun.

Everyone has their own idea about what makes a good potluck -- just like everyone has their favorite go-to potluck dish. I was talking with some of my friends about good “potluck protocol”, so I decided to put together a list. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts or additions.

By the way, my favorite potluck dish to take is quiche. It’s easy to make, it can be served hot or at room temperature, and it doesn’t require a lot of fuss. With a quiche (see below for the recipe) and the list, I’m ready for a good potluck. Enjoy!

Potluck Protocol -- My top 10

1. It always helps if the host of the potluck assigns categories of food for guests to bring. That way, you don’t end up with a table full of desserts and no main dishes or sides.

2. Bring a dish that’s ready to serve -- unless you’ve checked with the hostess first, or it’s a close family member, don’t expect there will be extra space in the oven, stove or fridge.

3. Bring everything you need to serve your dish. Asking the hostess for a platter to serve the bucket of chicken that you brought is bad form. It means more work and clean up for her (or him. :))

4. Label the food. It’s not always easy to tell by looking what the dish is. It also helps for anyone with dietary restrictions.

5. If you ask the hostess what to bring and she tells you -- bring it.

6. Make enough for the number of guests expected.

7. Make it look good. People eat with their eyes first -- if it looks good people will eat it.

8. Store bought is fine. Your real friends won’t judge you. :)

9. Take a sympathy scoop. Sometimes there’s a dish that no one seems to be eating. Do the right thing and put a little of it on your plate so the maker of the dish won’t feel bad.

10. And most importantly, enjoy the potluck party and have a good time!

Here's my recipe for

Easy Quiche

  • 1 9-inch deep frozen pie crust
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 1 cup half & half
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • *optional (1 cup diced ham or sautéed vegetables)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Beat together eggs and half & half, and add salt and pepper. Stir cheese, onions, ham and/or vegetables into the egg mixture. Pour into pie crust and bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 325 degrees and cook for another 40 minutes until done.

What is your "Potluck Protocol"?
Home-made only or is store-bought okay... Where do you stand?

Warm regards,
Leah Williams

Hi, everyone,

I’m feeling a little under the weather today (and the weather is SNOWY here, which isn't helping!) but I wanted to share some springtime sunshine with you, as we kick off the first official weekend of the new season.

Here’s another great idea for your Easter table…bunny napkins!

If you missed my blog on dinnerware as décor be sure to check that out. Here's the video within that post on how to set your Easter table, which gives you the proper set up to display your bunny napkins.

You can still order the Lenox Butterfly Meadow Dinnerware on QVC.com and I know it will make quite an impression on your Easter table.

I’ll see you soon…keep thinking those springtime thoughts!

XO,
—Jill

My gal pal, Kalina

Hello Lovelies,

Every Sunday I will be blogging for PM Style, and today it seemed fitting to blog about friendship. Tomorrow is a big day for my QVC gal pal Kalina from Breezies. She has a Today Special Value (whoop! whoop!), so no doubt the happy nerves are building as we speak for her.

Kalina was one of my first QVC friends. You know, the kind you tell stuff to that you would normally “vault” to other people. The kind of friend that you feel comfortable being vulnerable with because she “gets” it and isn’t perfect either. To this day, Kalina is still a true confidant. She gets busy with kids and parent dates. I get busy, well, secluding in my house because I’m too tired to put effort into socializing (or exercising which she yells at me for). But I know I can tell Kalina anything, absolutely anything, and she has my back. The best part about Kalina is that she is flawed, not afraid to say it, admit it, and make you feel comfortable in your failings, because she doesn’t try to hide hers. What a delight for a girl who on the surface seems so perfect and gorgeous and skinny and successful (and did I mention she has a killer fashion sense?) She has gifted me some rockin’ boots, bags and clothes for birthdays, from her trips to Italy. No doubt a covert effort to get me to stop wearing yoga pants and sneakers to her house for parties and drink dates. :)

So here is a little picture portfolio of me and the K-lady.

One time she had a Halloween party for her kids, and she and I dressed up as Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr Seuss…

And there have been many dinners out

(some that even led to dancing)….

There have been many freak outs, meltdowns, and teary “I’m lost and scared” trials that I have gone to Kalina to ask her advice (she is very wise and rational and has the best couch for therapy sessions)

Kalina and I have had some priceless moments on air together (many of which have had me over analyzing the color of my hair afterwards. Was I ever really that blonde? Oh dear. PS: Kalina and I are obsessed with achieving just the right blonde highlights. It’s a source of OCD for both of us.)

I remember the time I wore a bra that wasn’t Breezes to a party at Kalina’s house, and I felt so much shame, I had to take it off in the bathroom. (Or did Kalina make me take it off? When wine is involved, memories are foggy)

But the best part about Kalina, is how real she is. Hence, when I asked her to share a makeup free selfie with Tuesday Night Beauty viewers, she was quick to oblige...

So to my Q friend Kalina, thank you for years of advice, support, love, loyalty, and fun. You have done awesome things for our boobies so womankind is grateful, but girl to girl, you have been a bright spot for me since joining the Q and I cant wait to see you and your killer TSV in PMS Monday night at 10pET. Love you girl, forever and always.

Hunting for signs of Spring? Start in the Kitchen!

$

You know what the first day of Spring brought to PA this year? Snow! And even though I’m a sucker for a watching a pretty snowfall outside my kitchen window, even I was feeling a little impatient. Enough already, Winter. Make way for Spring!

(winter snow pic)

The good news is, all I have to do is turn my back on my kitchen window and take a look around my kitchen to get a glimpse of Spring in full bloom. I’m a big believer that happiness starts in the kitchen. And nothing makes me happier than filling my home with signs of Spring…even if Mother Nature is taking her sweet old time.

Want to jump-start the season in your kitchen? To get me in the mood for this weekend’s Spring-themed Cooking on Q event, here are three quick and easy ideas I used to say so-long to Winter…and hello, Spring!

  1. Serve up easy, delicious Spring greens. Asparagus is one of my favorite Spring veggies. And we’re right in the middle of prime growing season! Here’s a super simple, super scrumptious recipe that lets the flavor and color of this Spring superfood shine.

Roasted Asparagus

2 pounds fresh asparagus, trimmed

1/2 cup butter, melted

2 to 4 green onions, chopped

1/2 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 425°.

Place asparagus on two temp-tations® 13” x 9” Lid-Its® coated with cooking spray. Combine the butter and green onions; spoon over asparagus. Sprinkle with salt.

Bake, uncovered, 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned.

2. Flowers…Everywhere! I simply cannot resist adding fresh-cut flowers everywhere in my home. The colors are so cheery, it’s like an instant happiness booster. Plus, it’s an inexpensive way to make any meal feel special. Want to surprise your family? Add fresh flowers to your table for no reason. I promise you…it’s unbelievable how much sunshine they spread!

3. Accent your kitchen with cheery pops of color. When I first designed seasonal Spring colors for temp-tations last year, I never dreamed they would become so incredibly popular! So many people tell me they love to keep their seasonal temp-tations out all the time (and year-round!) to add gorgeous pops of color to the kitchen. That’s why I’m excited to debut so many new temp-tations in seasonal colors this Spring.

Of course, seeing that you love seasonal colors so much, I couldn’t help but bring you a few new temp-ting treats…just in time for the holidays! Just wait until you see Old World Egg Hunt, available in a Set of 2 Egg Platters. Just too cute! And this sweet Napkin Holder with Salt and Pepper Shakers Set in beautiful Floral Lace Spring…are you getting the hint yet, Mother Nature?

Don’t miss my new Floral Lace 16-piece Essential Oven-to-Table Set, which I’ll be sharing for the first time ever on-air this weekend during the Cooking on Q event. I combined my top-requested pieces in an all-in-one set that’s beautiful, functional and easy to store. Perfect for long-time temp-tations collectors and those just starting out.

How are you planning to welcome Spring in your kitchen? Fill me in on your favorite recipes, favorite spring colors and favorite flowers in the comments section below. And be sure to tune in and watch all the great Spring entertaining ideas we’ll have for you during the Cooking on Q event on Sunday, 3/22 on QVC. Maybe if we all think Spring hard enough, we can make it happen!

XOXO

Family Weddings

$

Now that our oldest son, Eric, is getting married next month, I am reminded of past weddings in our family. When I was only 4 and 5 years old, my two oldest sisters got married about a year apart. I was the flower girl in both of their weddings. I can still remember dropping red rose petals as I walked down the aisle covered in a white cloth. It looked so pretty!

I was also a bridesmaid for two of my other siblings and a few friends before my own wedding to Mark. The best part about being a bridesmaid is getting to wear a pretty dress and being included in the wedding party. Sometimes the hardest part of the "job" was walking down the aisle.

I remember our son, Eric, walked my Dad down the aisle at our nephew's wedding. My dad was 91 at the time and my Mom had passed away just a few months before. I LOVE this picture! The expression on Eric's face is absolutely priceless!

Mark and I were married on April 16th in 1983. Just two days earlier, we got 18 inches of snow! It looked like the weather might put a damper on our guess making the trip to join us for our big day. But, in true Minnesota style, the roads were cleaned up and the sun came out and started to melt the snow. Our wedding went off without a hitch!

Did you know we have big weddings in small towns? Both Mark and I are from small towns, so not only did all of our relatives join us, but also everyone from the church, the school, and our places of business. Everyone knows everyone in a small town and everyone gets invited. We had over 500 people there!

No one could afford a wedding like that now, but things were different back then. Weddings were held in the church and the receptions were usually in the adjacent fellowship hall/gymnasium. The ladies of the church made all of the food and it only came out to about $6 a plate. We also didn't serve alcohol or dance. But believe it or not, we still had a wonderful time. Our reception included a program, special music, speeches galore and great homemade food!

But the best part, besides marrying Mark, was having my Dad walk me down the aisle. My dad then walked on the platform and married us, since he was a pastor. That's a privilege that all of my siblings enjoyed - our Dad performed all of our ceremonies!

Mark and I went to The Keys in Florida for our honeymoon and stayed at his aunt's place. We even took a day trip to Key West. The only topless beach I've ever seen was then and there. (Very embarrassing on your honeymoon)! The other funny thing we laugh about is when we left the reception and drove an hour to a hotel only to realized Mark forgot his suitcase! So the next morning, my sister drove it over to use, so we could leave for The Keys. Guess he didn't need it that first night anyway. :)

Weddings create such wonderful memories! It's fun to relive them, to look back and smile, sometimes laugh, sometimes tear up remembering who was there , but is no longer with us, etc. But the best thing to remember is why you fell in love in the first place! It's good to be reminded of that along the ups and downs of life. I just know that I'm more in love with Mark now than I was on that day we said our vows, and it's all because God did it!

This our engagement picture. It sits in the one and only frame that it's ever been in and I would never even think to replace it, no matter how nicked up it may get.

Counting our blessings,

Mary Beth Roe

Easter Ham with Apricot Glaze - What Holiday Dish Are You Most Looking Forward To?

$

Hello, foodies…

There are just two weeks until Easter, and while we’ve been sharing some springtime and Easter recipes all throughout March, we haven’t yet talked about the main course: the holiday ham. Even though most hams are pre-cooked (like those from Smithfield and Kansas City Steak Company), I wanted to make sure you knew how to make the perfect ham and a one-of-a-kind glaze. So here’s my star recipe of the month: Easter Ham with Apricot Glaze.

Easter Ham with Apricot Glaze

Easter Ham with Apricot Glaze

Serves 8–10

Note: If you're preparing a 10–15-lb fresh, bone-in ham, preheat the oven to 325°F and prepare the glaze as directed. Place the ham in a large roasting pan and cook, uncovered, 18–20 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F. Baste every 15 minutes during the last hour. Let the ham rest before slicing. Serve with remaining glaze.

This recipe is prepared with the Circulon Hard Anodized 11-Piece Cookware Set (K41886).

Go to David's Recipe Item Page for the full list of items that David has used in his recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (8–10 lb) bone-in fully cooked ham
  • 1 Tbsp oil
  • 1/4 cup minced ginger
  • 2 cups apricot preserves
  • 2 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup whole grain mustard
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves

Preparation:

  1. Remove the ham from the refrigerator and let it sit for 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 375°F and move an oven rack to the lowest position. Line a large roasting pan with aluminum foil and place a roasting rack in the pan. With a sharp knife, lightly score the fat in a diamond pattern; do not cut into the meat. Place the ham, fat side up, on the rack and roast for 1 hour.
  2. Meanwhile, make the glaze. Sauté the ginger in the oil over medium heat in a small saucepan. Turn the heat to medium-low. Add the preserves, brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, and cloves. Heat the glaze until the preserves and sugar have melted. Divide the glaze in half, reserving half to serve with finished ham.
  3. After 1 hour, brush the ham with the glaze. Repeat every 15 minutes for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, glaze it one more time and cook until brown and shiny, and an instant-read thermometer inserted in the thickest part, avoiding bone, registers 130°F, about 30 minutes. (If the glaze starts to burn, tent the ham with buttered foil.)
  4. If you have glaze left over from the cooking process, discard it. Remove the ham from the oven and loosely cover it with buttered foil to keep warm. (The temperature will rise another 5–10°.) Slice and serve with warmed remaining glaze.

It’s so easy to over-cook a pre-cooked ham. I think it’s every host or hostess' first dinner priority: make sure the meat is done. But, when you over-cook what’s already finished, you’re left with a dry, dry, (and I say dry?) ham. The better option is to baste the ham as I directed above, to ensure the meat stays moist and absorbs the flavor of the citrusy glaze throughout the “cooking” process. And by roasting it for just two hours, you're really just warming it through. Feel free to use any bone-in, pre-cooked ham. Just don’t use the included glaze packet in this case...follow my cooking instructions instead.

Don’t forget to check out my recipe page and David’s Main Menu for more great Easter ideas. And be sure to check out my friend Jill Bauer’s blog…she just posted a blog on how to fold a napkin into an Easter bunny! Now that’s talent!

Your blog question today is what Easter dish are you most looking forward to? The ham? Sweet Potatoes? Pineapple casserole? What about a coconut cake?I’ll see you this Sunday on In the Kitchen with David at Noon ET, foodies. Happy SPRING!

Keep it flavorful!

My New York City Trip: Beauty, Fashion, Makeup and CAKE!

Last week I went to New York to visit with some of our vendor partners. I always love going to New York, and this time, once I hit the city I headed straight for my hotel, dropped my bags, and went to Magnolia Bakery to get my favorite German Chocolate cake (three pieces, I cannot tell a lie!!!).

It was a beautiful and mild Wednesday afternoon, so I went to Bryant Park and sat and ate cake! It was the perfect start to an amazing visit. I started bright and early at the Empire State Building. Who goes to the Empire State Building to work? Our friends at Philosophy. I met Mari Lyn Meier, we snapped a pic, and picked up our badges (check out the spelling of my name…lol).

Philosophy is our #1 beauty brand at QVC. And with skincare, fragrance, and bath & body, Philosophy really does have something for every person at every age (yes, even for men {#emotions_dlg.biggrin})

I came to the Philosophy brand through Purity Made Simple (did you??). I love how Purity cleanses my skin, and even though it took me years to find it, I say better late than never!! We’ve sent over 6.6 million bottles of Purity to QVC customers, and I would venture to say that it’s the one product most of us, wouldn’t be without.

But as you know, our fearless Philosophy team isn’t content to rest on the tried and true. With half a dozen Today’s Special Value’s a year, this team is always charging ahead, always looking for the next advancement and the next breakthrough. They gave me a preview of what’s coming, and all I’m allowed to say is get ready for new “favorites” in fragrance, skin care, and bath and body {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}. Because as you know: when you live with hope, miracles occur.

Next up was a visit with Laura Geller. As you know, she’s like everyone’s favorite girlfriend. With 18 years at QVC, Laura Geller is the longest standing color cosmetics brand at QVC. Laura’s background is in theater make up, so she’s known in the industry for her contouring and highlighting. As you can see, she broke open the make up and started in on me (much to my delight).

The first product she ever developed was Spackle, but as you know she has Balance N Brighten, and her ooh la la Body Frosting.

Laura and her team have new products up their sleeve. Look out for something that you’ll start with…(hint hint!)

It was getting late in the day, so it was the perfect time to visit the Carole Hochman and Stan Herman team. I have so many pieces from these two brands. I often come home and slip in to something from one or the other {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Our Carole Hochman items are special at QVC. We offer many options that you won’t find in big department stores. At QVC you’ll find sleepwear and loungewear, multi-piece sets, and extended sizes, like 1x-3x, and if you’re petite we’ve got you covered too. Both Carole Hochman and Stan Herman have all sorts of goodies up their sleeves. Think lounge dresses, great patterns, and sets that will allow you to move from indoors to outdoors.

Friday I started my day with Elaine Lai. A self-described clothing nut, she started making her own clothes when she was 12 and hasn’t stopped. She believes that clothes must be compelling in price, quality, and design.

Elaine has been working with Bob Mackie for 22 years, and her office was filled with artwork, sketches, swatches and boards of what’s coming next.

In fact, Elaine produces clothes for several brands including Linea by Louis Dell’Olio, Quacker Factory, Joan Rivers, and Styled by Joe Zee. Each piece goes through multiple steps before we see the finished product. There’s a sketch, color decisions, fabric selections, body creation, pattern making, sample production, specification adjustments, and production (this is a loose translation…lol). All of those steps are necessary for every single garment!!! Now you know why pieces take at least 3 ½ months to come back in stock! You know what she’s doing now? Creating pieces for the first quarter of 2016!

After lunch I was on my way to LOGO. Lori Goldstein’s brand has been on fire since she launched about 5 years ago.

I caught up with the team, and I was instantly changing clothes! See these two tops? They’re LOGO, and yeah, I love ‘em.

LOGO presents several Today’s Special Values a year, and their production process is precise, and wickedly organized. Check out their photo book and that folder, which holds every single note about every step for that one garment.

You may already be familiar with LOGO, LOGO Layers, LOGO Lounge, LOGO Littles, and LOGO links, but this brand is about to take #logofied to the next level!

You’ll see more textures, colors, and embellishments in unexpected and delicious ways. I’m not allowed to show you the whole pieces, but isn’t your mouth watering already??

Whew! This is only a fraction of what I learned on my NYC field trip, but I wanted to give you a taste of what it was like. I’ve got more juicy nuggets I can’t wait to share, so I hope you’ll keep joining me on Q!

XO-

Rachel

Let’s Have a Spring Brunch at My House

I like winter…but after one too many snowfalls, I’m happy to say goodbye to it for about 9 months! :)  For me, Spring is exciting because of nature’s vibrant colors, the sounds of birds chirping in the morning and all of the fresh flavors I want to taste in my food.  Well, to get myself and some friends in the “spring” of things, I decided to host an easy, yet elegant, brunch this weekend and you’re invited to join!! This is a view of the finished table, with help from lovely product by Valerie Parr Hill, but keep reading to see how easily it all comes together!

The first thing I do when setting up a brunch is lay out how I want the table to look.  I took all the elements for serving and brought them together.  A glass beverage dispenser and a few 2-tier mercury glass serving platters were the perfect way to display the colorful food.  Because I was going to serve lemonade, I used a wire apothecary jar and decorative lemons to accent the table.  Lastly, a glass hurricane and a flameless candle always help set the mood for an elegant gathering.

Next, I set the table for my guests.  These place settings were given to me by my mother, and the fingerprint glasses were actually a thrift store find! Instead of using a napkin ring, I placed a simple stalk of lavender down the center of each napkin to add a bit of texture, fragrance and casual elegance.

For me, no table is complete without a wonderful centerpiece of flowers.  I called my favorite West Chester flower shop, Matlack Florist, and told them I wanted it to feel like spring was blooming in my home! I think they hit the nail on the head with all of the floral blooms, tulips, hydrangea and cabbage heads.  :)

Now, it’s time to eat! Here are some photos of the food I prepared for my brunch (recipes to follow)!

Nothing says “brunch” like a quiche! This one is made with ham and potato and it is so simple to make.  It looks so fancy because its sitting on that serving platter !! Use a store brought pie crust and combine 1 cup each of chopped ham, diced potato, cheese, milk, mixed with 3 eggs, salt, pepper and rosemary.  Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes.

I love the look and taste of tea sandwiches.  They require no cooking and can be assembled while the quiche is cooking.  The ones on the top tier were shrimp and dill open faced sandwiches with a lemon-dill cream cheese.  The triangle sandwiches are made with butter, watercress, radish and sea salt – simple, refreshing and YUMMY!

And for dessert I sliced up a lemon pound cake from Sweet Sams and added some fresh raspberries for garnish.  This is always a hit with my guests, and the perfect mix of sweet and tart flavors!

I love seasonal decorating and entertaining.  One thing I’ve learned is that the home is always more beautiful when it reflects what is happening in nature and in the seasons.  What do you do to celebrate the seasons with your friends and family? Let me know in your comments below or visit my Facebook page and chat with me there!

XOXO

My Hair Journey

$
0
0

My hair. I've done just about anything and everything to it. From the 1980s Sun-In, perms, and changing haircolor anytime I felt like it.  It was a lot of fun!

Growing up my mom always pulled my hair back into a ponytail, as I grew older it was all about the long spiral perms with hair so long that I could sit on it!

When I got to QVC I had already stopped doing perms, and my hair is stick straight and very heavy. We tried red tones, blonde tones, brown tones - and finally after I had my daughter Theresa I let my natural hair color grow in. It's a combination of dark brown with red and golden highlights.

You know when you get that urge to cut your hair short, I got it!  I cut my hair short a couple years ago and absolutely loved it. Joan Rivers and Dennis Basso loved it as well and this past fall I cut my hair short again to surprise them. Unfortunately, Joan didn't get a chance to see it.  Actually it never turned out the same as it had years before, my hair texture had gotten thicker. So after a few months of trying to keep my hair short without success - I said "UNCLE" and gave up and now I'm growing it out again.

When I found out I was going to get to kick off Chaz Dean's WEN Today's Special Value -> click HERE. I knew I had to have Chaz style my hair during this awkward growing out stage.

For the past several months Chaz and I have talked about color and shape ideas for my hair. Then we started texting each other photos of color ideas – that was fun!

We knew we needed to even out my hair as it's growing longer. Chaz also had great ideas for bringing out my natural highlights but really making them dynamic!

I got to spend the day with the WEN Team as they covered up those pesky grey hairs that hadn't been colored since November! Then they began the process of multiple highlights. It felt like we used all of the aluminum foil in the state of Pennsylvania just to highlight my hair!

Once the color was done we immediately cleansed my hair with the brand-new WEN Mandarin Italian Fig cleansing conditioner from our Today's Special Value – it's AMAZING!!!  It's so good I asked Chaz to please make it into a perfume!

Chaz then texturized and thinned out my heavy hair on top so that it would look more even as it's growing out.

The results were fantastic! Look at the dimensions of the color, natural, beautiful, and they worked off of my own natural hair colors – I love it!

But my day of WEN didn't end there! When I got home our dog Grace Ella (who's middle name is in tribute of Chaz's beautiful fur angel Ella who passed away.) got to experience the BRAND NEW WEN Pets -> Find it HERE - Now in Lavender Mint Eucalyptus!  Her coat is so shiny, smooth and beautifully soft! She really does love getting cleansed. We've also been using WEN oils on her paw pads after this really cold winter.  Yes, she is one spoiled puppy! In fact we were trying to get the fur angels together to play before our kick off of the Today's Special Value – but the weather did not cooperate!  So we will plan a doggy play date in the spring when it's perfect!

I still have a way to go on growing out my hair - but it always feels healthy, looks shiny and has volume!

I hope you have a WENderful weekend!!!  Can't wait to show you all the fantastic new WEN items we have!  If you can't wait - check out the WEN Shop here -> SHOP

It’s Sunday night and you know what that means – it’s time for our weekly Seven for Sunday blog here on QVC Plus. Every week we bring you highlights of the week, backstage scoop, and even some teases of upcoming QVC Plus Programming.  In addition, we always throw in some recommendations for our favorite products and anything you might have missed!

 Tug Of War

7. ALL’S FAIR (IN TUG OF WAR)

During Thursday’s ‘Styled Out’, Sandra Bennett and Marianne Ahern showed us just how durable (and stretchy) the Skinny Tees really are.  We already knew how great the piece was for layering, but to know it could hold up to that kind of abuse?  Amazing!  Plus as we head into Summer Barbeque season, it’s always nice to know that in an emergency a Skinny Tee could be used in a surprise game of Tug of War. (Kidding of course!)

It’s Elastic, It’s Fantastic:http://qvc.co/QPlusSkinnyTees

 St. Patrick's Day

6. IT’S EASY BEING GREEN

Courtney had the luck of the Irish on her side Tuesday night when she was joined by several of our favorite guests from the Emerald Isle for our St. Patrick’s Day After Party!  It was a fun and informative show where Courtney got to see some beautiful Irish pieces and learn more about the country.  One example being, did you know that the official color of Ireland is blue? We didn’t either!

 Barbara King Hammock with Shade

5.  A SPRING THING

Speaking of green, Leah Williams showed off her green thumb during an hour of Patio and Garden on Tuesday night. During the show, Leah and guest Barbara King kicked their feet up a little and relaxed on Barbara King’s Folding Hammock with adjustable Sun Shade.  To us, this hammock looks like the perfect place to curl up on a sunny day with a stack of your favorite magazines. Available in Poppy and Moss, it’s just as colorful as you are.

 How to Watch QVC Plus

4. QVC PLUS ON THE GO!

As you all know, if your cable provider does not offer QVC Plus yet – you can always watch on our live stream or on our mobile app. In case you missed it or would love to watch QVC Plus on the go, this week we put out a tutorial about how to watch on your mobile app.  If you’re lucky enough to have a cable provider that features QVC Plus, feel free to share the wealth! Share the tutorial with friends and let them in on the great programming on QVC Plus!

St. Tropez

3. FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT

It wouldn’t be summer without St. Tropez.  Coming up in Sunday’s ‘What to Wear’, we have the amazing St. Tropez Self Tan Mousse with applicator mitt. A bronzed look is the perfect way to make those Spring colors really pop, and make your friends incredibly jealous. They don’t have to know it’s a faux tan. (We won’t tell if you won’t)

 Dan Wheeler Puppy Love

2. PUPPY LOVE

Dan Wheeler took a moment during his Dell show on Thursday night to showcase a special picture on his Facebook page. Dan shared two snapshots of Zoey Lu, the newest addition to the Wheeler family. In a side by side comparison of when the family first got Zoey, it’s obvious how much she’s grown!

Sunny Smoothies for Spring!

Hello my friends!

Spring is a great time to have a Vitamix with all of the fresh produce we start to see! Here's one I love...feel free to improvise!

Ingredients:

1 cup washed and chopped strawberries (hulls and stems removed)
1 large ripe banana, peeled and sliced
1 cup plain yogurt (low-fat or non-fat)
1 cup chopped fresh peach
1/2 cup raspberries and/or blueberries
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice or pineapple juice
2 or 3 ice cubes

Directions:

Put all ingredients in the blender and process on high speed until smooth (less than a minute). I usually pulse the blender mixture a few times before turning it on high. You can add granola or protein powder to the mixture and have it as your total breakfast on the go! Try adding different fruits, fruit juices, skim milk, or yogurt flavors...even sorbet...until it's exactly the way you like!

Finding Balance Through Exercise

Happy Spring Everyone!

Being active is one of the best ways for me to stay balanced throughout the day. As the days are getting longer, I decided to explore some local boutique fitness haunts to try new workout techniques and get my body in tip top shape for spring.

Indoor rowing is the hottest new exercise in town. You can burn a lot of calories during an hour-long training session while also toning your entire body. Plus, the fact that there is someone sitting right beside you and you’re rowing in sync, brings out your inner hero and makes you feel positive peer pressure to push yourself to the max.

Balance is all about flexibility and endurance. My next class, which incorporated cardio, strength training and stretching all with a ballet barre, helped me focus on improving my flexibility and work on the stiffer areas of my body.

The arrival of Spring is a great time to refresh your exercise routine and I encourage you to stay active everyday.

Best,

Dr. Raj

Happy Spring!

My feet have barely touched the ground since St Patrick's Day .

Myself and all the Irish headed home on the 18th March, and I spent the weekend packing away my green hat, and putting my green shirts away.

You will be pleased to know that I spoke with Matt Doolan;  he is in top form, and sends his best wishes to everyone, and is sorry he missed the celebration.

On Friday I will be travelling on the big green airplane, and will be back at QVC on Monday 30th March at 1 am  and 10 am EST to take part in the Global Artisan Crafted Silver Jewellery shows.

I will be presenting a brand new handmade ring (coming 3/30) which has a lovely big Connemara stone , and our rosary bracelet (coming 3/30).

I will bring a new piece of Connemara marble stone to show you the way mother nature forms this rare marble, and I asked Gary in our workshop to put a fine polish on the front of the stone.

He even let me have a go on the polishing machine! It's exciting to see the green marble comes to life when its polished.

See you soon,

Stephen

My Vacation Week in the Sun!

The temp at my place in Pennsylvania was 11 degrees the morning I left for my vacation on the island of Vieques. If you are not familiar with Vieques, it’s a tiny island (8 square miles!) right off the coast of San Juan, PR. A rustic, tropic paradise with stunning beaches and wild horses that roam free over the island!

This was our 4th trip there in as many years and I can’t remember when I looked forward to a vacation more! 7 days in perfect sunny weather. 4 tee shirts. 3 pairs of shorts. 1 pair of Birkenstocks. 1 bathing suit. Let’s go:

{I was greeted every morning with this amazing view from the house we rented!}

{I pretty much never moved from this spot...except to go to lunch!!}

{Fabulous local food and drink! And yes, that was a two beer lunch!!}

{Our house sat way up in the hills, not far from the rain forest that the island is famous for.}

{I had a visitor in the outdoor shower who loved my brand of shampoo!!}

{The best fish taco ever. It was cooked right by the water where it was caught! Doesn’t get any fresher than that! I plan on sharing this recipe with David Venable!!}

{Don’t worry; breakfast was a super healthy local fruit and yogurt every day. Right after a morning run through the hills...and past the wild horses!!}

{A herd of about 16 steer lived right up the hill over our house. MOOOOOOOOooooo. All day (and sometimes night!) long!}

{But the best part of my entire vacation was coming home to this cutie back in NYC}

By the way - I met two lovely QVC ladies from Atlanta in the airport in San Juan who were kind enough to come up to me and say hello. And both looking fantastic - wearing Joan Rivers earrings!! I was thrilled.

Sneak peak just for you:

If you haven’t experienced one of Joan’s famous caftans, there isn’t a better time than now. Perfect for glamorous entertaining at home and just right by the pool or on a cruise. Joan adored them for anytime she wanted to be comfortable and still look chic as can be!

Spring 2015 is here!

After a long winter - especially in America, we finely welcome the spring. As I shared with you in previous years, it’s defiantly my favorite season – and also my birthday J.  The flowers start to bloom, the sun is coming out and the heavy winter clothing is going back to the top of the closet.

It was a busy winter for me and working on the new spring 2015 collection was fun and inspiring.

For the first time, we launched our spring 2015 collection a few days ago in a beautiful event. We did it in a Jaffa which is one of the most amazing old cities in Israel.

The history of Jaffa goes far back. As one of the world’s oldest ports, Jaffa is thought to have been the port from which Jonah departed and ended up in the whale’s stomach! The port continued to be important through history, and served as the main entry point to the land of Israel. It was through Jaffa that Jews from all over the world entered the country and many had settled in Jaffa. The event was a great success and we will have a special Or Paz show in the end of April J

I’m getting ready for this week shows on Tuesday, March 24th and Wednesday the 25th. We are going to launch several new designs as well as returning favorites.

One of the new items I designed over the winter is a multi-pearl ring. I was in a restaurant on Tel Aviv beach and I remember looking at the water of the Mediterranean sea. It was a windy day and the waves were really high. I was thinking that I want to design a ring that will imitate the movements of the waves. The different colors of pears (White, Blue and pink ) resemble the reflection of the water and the sun.

We are a few weeks before Passover and Easter. I would like to wish you all a happy holiday

I’m looking forward to seeing you next week!

Danny

Animal Baskets!

Hello, Friends!

I’m so excited because today I get to tell you about one of my absolute favorite items from the ED On Air collection for spring… Animal Baskets!!!

So, yes, these baskets have lots of uses, which I’ll get to in just a sec… but first, can we please talk about how CUTE they are?! Seriously, these things are off-the-charts cute. I can’t decide which one is cuter—the elephant, the duck, or the bunny. That’s why I have all three!

And, they’re so useful. (See, I told you I’d get around to all the uses.) I use one to hold magazines. I keep my blankets and throws in another. And, the third I use to store pet toys.

I also love that they’re different. And, when I say they’re different, I don’t just mean that they’re not your ordinary, run-of-the-mill storage baskets—although that’s true, too. But, because these baskets are each woven by hand, no two are exactly alike. Every single one is special and unique. So, it’s like having a little work of art sitting on the kitchen counter holding your fruit. (Yet another use!)

Plus, they’re just so darn CUTE!

For more cute decorating ideas, don’t forget to watch Taniya’s video blog.

I’ll be taking a break for a while, but I’ll be back in July with some fun holiday items. ‘Til then, enjoy your spring—

Ellen
