"We're going to be in the TV!" My daughter Grace tells her dad as we leave the house on a freezing February morning. I've got a huge suitcase full of clothes and a Vera Bradley bag with toys and books swung over my shoulder. Both girls bundled up, run out ahead of me to go get in the car as I coax our old bull-dog Gourdie along with his bed. Trailing behind is my mom who's in town for a few days.
Our whole crew shows up at this gorgeous mini mansion outside Philadelphia where we will recreate our home for the next eight hours.
The set is gorgeous! Full of light and white and my favorite accent color; turquoise. The bedroom set is decorated with pictures of our family taken from our own home and it looks like the image of a perfect home I've always had in my head.
The girls and I get our makeup and hair done with Gourdie at our feet. We delight the kids to stay still with muffins and fruit from the fully stocked craft service center in the huge kitchen downstairs.
The girls get to pick out outfits from Logo Littles and I try on maxi dresses from Liz Claiborne and Susan Graver
After hours of prep were finally ready to shoot. Grace has been keeping the 20 team crew busy asking questions about the cameras and monitors and somehow they have already managed to get my shy 5 year old to relax enough to get some beautiful shots.
Grace is reserved and doesn't always want to do what the director asks of her, but her slightly younger sister Georgia is a straight up ham in front of the camera. She is posing and dancing around eager to get her camera time.
The good mom I am, I keep jelly-beans in my pocket and keep bribing Grace to please do what the photographers are asking. She pouts a bit and takes some breaks with other crew members while Geogria and I do some solo shots. I honestly fear none of the shots of Grace are coming out and that of course makes me start sweating through my maxi which has my stylist stuffing tissues in my armpits and blow-drying my arms in between takes. Sooooo glamorous!
Gourdie has been a bit nervous all day and production assistants have been taking turns running him out in the single digit temps.
When he finally gets on set into the comfy bed he steals the show.
Gourdie has always been a bit of a worrisome when dog. The plan was to have our Pumpkin be in the shoot but she passed away unexpectedly 2 week before. We were all still so raw and emotionally drained from loosing her that we nearly canceled the shoot all together. So when we had Gourdie step in we weren't sure he would even play along.
We were off set getting a snack and when we came back in the videographer motioned to us to stay put and be quiet for a moment. We looked on the bed and there was our big Gourdie calm as could be relaxing and mugging for the camera. It was such a blessed moment. We really felt Pumpkin there with us giving him peace.
You will see all the photos and video from this crazy February day, the entire month of April and May. We're on big posters at the Q and in ads and commercials on the web site and on air. People keep on asking if that's my daughter and yes, it's both of them. No, not our house but the magic of an awesome crew is that we sure felt like it was. Surprisingly, that little girl who was shy and not so eager to get her picture taken ended up becoming the star. The beautiful shot of me snuggling her is as big as the building driving into the QVC compound. I guess we just had to get her in her happy place to open up.
I'm blessed to be able to share a little more of my family with yours. Join me on Facebook – Kerstin Lindquist QVC to see more.
Happy Spring,
