Frozen Frenzy

My kids are losing their minds!  Granted they are four and five years old so that’s not a new thing in our home, but right now they are planted in front of the television watching Nancy Hornbeck sing, "Let It Go", singing a chorus of “I want it now!!!” right along with her.

Grace & Georgia are used to seeing mommy on TV.  As infants they watched me, swaddled in their daddy’s arms, early in the morning, while I delivered the morning weather for ABC news. Now they occasionally catch me on Q check or Saturday Morning Q when I’m on QVC.  It’s no big thing for them, so the fact that they have actually stopped and are giving their undivided attention to “mommy’s work” means somethings up.

What’s up, is Frozen.  Anna & Elsa came into our lives in the dark, cold days of early 2014 and they transformed my little girls.  Life turned into the movie in our home.  They were using blue blankets to dress up like Elsa, singing the songs, and wearing white gloves to control their “magic.”  We even managed to find an online copy of the movie that my girls would do any chore, at any time of the day, to earn the right to watch.

Fast forward to the spring, and my mother-in-law planned a trip for the girls to Disney World.  All they wanted to do was see Elsa & Anna, dress up like them, talk about them…but we couldn’t find any Frozen dresses let alone a t-shirt or a pendant.  Even at the park!  There was nothing! Disney had just missed a huge opportunity in our opinion.  My mother-in-law was willing to pay whatever, to make her granddaughters' dream come true.  Finally she ended up special ordering these gorgeous Elsa dresses made by some woman overseas.

That’s the dress on Georgia on the right.  She never takes it off!!!

Since then we have continued to crave anything Frozen, and little by little we have seen more pop up but when QVC launched the Frozen collection on July 1st it was like a dream come true!

We have watches of both Olaf and Anna & Elsa

Wall art of the both as well.

The Olaf stuffy.

And the Elsa dress that cost more than 200 dollars less than the one my mother-in-law had to special order, but that sold out in one 5 minute airing!

We even have the movie that started it all.

And of course the pendant that had my girls mesmerized!

It comes in Olaf as well as Anna & Elsa.

We also had dolls that I hope we can get back in stock, and just about all the frozen items are on their second, third, fourth advanced order, but if you can get them, and at this price, my goodness they are worth the wait!!!

My aunties managed to advanced order my girls the pendants, and watches and the dress (before it sold out.) I can’t wait to see their faces when they open these up on Christmas (if we can wait that long.)  It’s no exaggeration that these Frozen toys are  going to be some of the hottest and most coveted toys for little girls and even boys (Olaf is a riot!) this Christmas.  Those dresses are going to be a hit on Halloween.  If I think that that my kiddos are loosing their cute little minds right now watching the presentation on television, imagine what kind of crazy will ensue when they open the real thing.  Don’t you want to be the family member that gets the kids the pony for Christmas ?  In this case anything Frozen is the Pony.

See more of my crazy kids, and crazy life daily on my facebook page www.facebook.com/kerstinlindquistqvc  and on Twitter www.twitter.com/kerstinlindqvc and of course Togather.com

Blessings,

Kerstin Lindquist

Premiering the Kalos Collection

Now, think about handmade glass, each piece designed by my dear friend Pearly Karpel, an extraordinary artist designing glass by the Lampwork method.  Glass is the most versatile substance, enabling limitless variations of color, texture, and shape.  Together, Pearly and I have created my new Kalos jewelry that is stunning to see and amazing to wear!  I am so pleased to bring you the first pieces of my Kalos Collection of sterling silver and handmade glass.

More exciting news during my July Shows!

Something that I have wanted to do for such a long time, I have opened my studio and factory to talented Israeli designers sharing my knowledge and experience by helping each designer to have an opportunity to succeed.  I will be introducing several of these designers with their latest pieces designed in the Regina Lane Design Studio.  I am so proud that I have named my studio after my grandmother Regina and my home; the studio and factory are all located on Regina Lane at my homeland village.  I can’t wait to share their beautiful designs and tell you all about what we are doing at the studio… it is my passion and desire to help each designer create their own name and individual style.

New from Or Paz.... What's Coming up!

Hello all, this year has passed by so fast! I cannot believe that it’s July again. Our Or Paz brand has grown and more designers, model makers, jewelers, setters, quality control and logistic operation people joined to support our brand.

It’s amazing to me how Or Paz has become so popular and so many of you like and appreciate our jewelry. I don’t take it for granted and appreciate it a lot. The challenge of creating new and fresh looks based on our history and culture is something that keeps motivating me and energizes my daily routine.

The Jovella show is taking place around my youngest son's birthday. Whenever I look at him and realize how much he grew, it reminds me how fast life goes by and how we need to enjoy and get as much time we can with our family and friends.

Our 4th Jovella event is coming up in a few days and this year we have truly lifted the design level of the collection. There are several things that I am especially excited about and looking forward to share with you.

The first item is the lace spinning ring. This collection is my favorite one of the past year and something in the details and the combination between the filigree -lace and the hammered finish creates a special and unique look. We combined it with the hottest trend of the spinning ring which I like to call ‘the Karma ring’ and the total look came out amazing.

The second item is our new watch. It took me two years to bring a new watch to Or Paz and over a year to develop this one. I had something in mind but it took me a long time to make it, as I would never compromise until I achieve the perfect result. I actually collaborated with one of the best watch makers in the industry to make it happen. The details and dimension on the new Or Paz watch is something that is rare to find in the watch world.

Please join me on Monday and Tuesday throughout the day for a great Jovella and Paz shows!

Yours,

Danny

DAVID:

JOAN, judging from the fabulous pictures, you had a wonderful Grandma Week with Cooper!

JOAN:

Venice and Rome and Cooper…What is not to love! We rode in gondolas, ate pasta, visited museums, ate pasta, went to the beach on the Lido, ate pasta, you get the idea!!

Here are some pictures for you, dear reader, if you missed them:

We are all back safe and sound, and, of course, craving pasta! I already miss Cooper (and his cute friend Ben who came along), but not to worry, I see him every week when I am in Los Angeles taping Fashion Police.

I will say, I am so excited about our upcoming QVC shows on August 28th...

DAVID:

Me too! We are debuting fabulous new statement necklaces, including several styles you are already wearing!

J294775 Tribal Chic 24" Necklace w/ 3" Extender

Perfect Petals 20-1/2” Necklace w/ 3” ExtenderDEBUTING THIS MONDAY!

Layers of Luxury 19” Necklace w/ 3” Extender – COMING IN EARLY AUGUST

JOAN:

All of these new statement necklaces save my life when I am on the road promoting my new book, Diary of a Mad Diva! I use my old trick of classic basics and add a dramatic necklace to finish my look. Every necklace has been a success. I ADORE THEM ALL!!!

DAVID:

And by the way, congratulations on the new book. It debuted at #7 on the New York Times bestsellers list!! That is HUGE!! I had the best time reading it on the train heading to QVC. I think the other passengers thought I was nuts! I kept laughing out loud. It is one hilarious book!

Joan, my pick of the visit is our BRAND NEW jersey cardigan set. It’s an update to the classic “twin set” but with a twist! It’s a super comfortable cardigan/tank set in one of our favorite soft jerseys and has a sprinkle of sequins on the tank top. If I know you, Joan, you will live in this set!!

A254824 Jersey Knit Cardigan & Sequin Tank Set - NEW!

And I hope our ladies think about pairing it with our incredible ponte knit pants for a complete look:

Wardrobe Builders Ponte Knit Slim Pants– Now available in Regular AND Petite!

One last question: Any plans of walking off the set at QVC?!

JOAN:

Don’t start with me David!!!!

Any thoughts on where Joan’s next Grandma Week should be? Suggestions appreciated, ladies!!!

What or who is a Wardrobe Warrior™?

$

0

By now I’m sure you’ve heard me mention Wardrobe Warrior™ various times, but what exactly does Wardrobe Warrior™ mean?

Wardrobe Warrior™ is both a personal style method, and a lifestyle. It’s a way of building your wardrobe so that you can pull together a stylish look in a pinch. It’s a way of packing for a trip so that one piece of carry-on luggage can last you your entire trip. It’s a way of streamlining your look in a way that allows your personal taste to shine through every one of your outfits, without you spending hours to pull it together. The Wardrobe Warrior™ method is all about looking your best without the stress.

The key to building a Wardrobe Warrior™ is to select the perfect combination of pieces that mix and match perfectly together. It’s one of the reasons that I’ve begun designing more sets for you lately. Every item has a coordinating piece, and each set can be broken up and worn with the rest of your Attitudes by Renée® and Women with Control® items.  It’s the perfect combination of flexibility and ease.

On July 28th, I will have a new Wardrobe Warrior™ surprise in store for you. It will be the biggest Wardrobe Warrior™ design I’ve created so far for you. This will be a must-have for your wardrobe and a great addition to your personal style. I’ve even gone so far as to design special accessories to wear with it, which will debut at the same time. So be sure to tune in at midnight as this is something you won’t want your closet to miss.

Check out some pictures below where Susan & I show you a few ways to build your wardrobe with these pieces!

With Attitude,

Renée.

How Aaron & I Met

$

As many of you have figured out by now, I can sometimes have a very self-deprecating sense of humor.  That being said, I would like to tell you that the first time Aaron and I spent time together I was looking and feeling my best, but that just wasn’t the case.  Earlier in the year, I had signed up to work a Christmas event with him and the day of the event, I had forgot that I was going to see him.

*** By the way, when I signed up to work the event with Aaron, I knew this was going to be my chance to get to know him, so I asked my girlfriend (who was engaged) if I could erase her name and put mine next to Aaron’s… she laughed it off and encouraged me to go for it!

Back to the story, every year, I make it a personal point to decorate a Christmas sweater with ornaments that I find from discount stores and big box stores alike… It really gets my in the Christmas Spirit.  I was especially proud of my sweater that year until I saw Aaron and then became quite nervous because of my overdone outfit.  As you can see from the picture below, I wasn’t too excited that this was our first picture together, ha! After that night, the rest they say is history :).

Here is the culprit that made me take a picture with Aaron, my BFF Farah.

Funny Story- When Aaron and I first started dating we got invited to attend an outdoor party for the Derby.  As soon as we got off the bus, the groups hosting the event made everyone have a first dance. Aaron and I were off to a great start until I thought he was going to dip me and he had no clue where I was going.  Needless to say I hit the grass pretty hard.  I quickly perked back up and said “What happened?!” he responded “I can’t read your mind!” and I quipped back “You’re supposed to read my body!” This picture was taken right before the dreaded dance occurred.

This was snapped in Memphis, TN the night Aaron and I told each other we loved each other before I moved to Philadelphia.

Fun Fact- Over the years anytime there is a themed party Aaron and I are the first to RSVP… we love them!  These photos are from Halloween, Octoberfest, and Jimmy Buffett.

We are always up for an Adventure in Traveling and have been able to see some great sights like Belize, Mexico, and the Caribbean.    PS I think this is one of my favorite pictures of Aaron from Playa Del Carmen.

One thing that I love the most about Aaron is that he is always game to carryout or start a new tradition.  For example, from early on Aaron’s family always smokes ribs for Thanksgiving.   Not only have we continued that tradition every thanksgiving we’ve shared together, but also now Aaron has added that he doesn’t shave the entire week of Thanksgiving, ha!

And here we are today, enjoying life to its fullest measure and making our love and family our top priority.

We couldn’t be more excited to share this journey with you and we thank you for all of your well wishes.  This has already been an incredible journey and we can’t wait to take you along for the rest of the ride.

With Love,

Courtney & Aaron

Day Trippin’

I didn’t want to call this blog stay-cation again so I am going with “Day Trippin’ because that is what we did for the last 2 weeks.

We started our vacation joining our good friend Holly celebrate her sons wedding.  Congratulations to John, Jeannie and family.  It was a beautiful ceremony.

Next it was time for our annual crab pickin’ with Leah, Lena, Barb & Aneesah.  Served with fried chicken, corn on the cob & shrimp salad!! Yum!! Avery photo bombed the picture but I think she was really more interested in stealing the crabs.

Picking crabs is rough on the fingernails, so off to the nail salon for mani’s & pedi’s.  Awww!

Day Trip!!!  Off to NY!!  My sister drove my mom, mother in law, Avery & me in one car.  Chelsea drove the other car with Lauren, Allen, & Kennady.  Chelsea’s first time driving in NY.  She get’s the “I survived driving in NY t-shirt”.

We had dinner at Tony’s, a family style Italian food restaurant near Times Square.

Then it was time to head to the theater.  We saw Wicked one night and then went to the matinee for The Lion King (still one of my all-time favorite shows. We were true tourist!  Took pictures in all of the usual places.

That was week #1

To start off week 2 Chelsea, Lauren & James headed to the Brandywine River for kayaking.  I was a bystander for that one.  My arms were to sore from playing tennis.  (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it)

Not only do I love to play tennis, I love to watch tennis!!  My sister, mom, mother-in-law & I went to Villanova University to watch the World Team Tennis featuring Venus Williams of the Washington Kastles vs. The Philadelphia Freedom.  It is a small intimate venue so you really connect with the players.  We had ringside seats.

We went to “Color Me Mine” for craft day.  You can pick from an assortment of unpainted pottery pieces, pick your colors and create original art.  They fire them and you pick them up in about a week.  I will post picture of them when they are finished.  Stay tuned.

Linda Davies hosted a graduation party for her son Kevin.  I can’t believe he is off to college.  Time for the mom’s to celebrate!!

We had a few days during the 2 weeks when the weather was not great but if the sun was out we touch full advantage.  Here are some ladies you might recognize.

In between all of our fun day trips, we spent time relaxing by the pool with family and friends. It is like having our own little bed & breakfast here.  We serve breakfast, lunch & dinner. We have tons of laundry to do daily, towels and bed linens etc., but we enjoy every second.

I missed all of you and can’t wait to get back to work.  Day Trippin’ is exhausting.  I will see you bright and early Monday morning for Fashionably Early.

Blessings,

Jayne

  • 1/2 gallon chocolate ice cream
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • dozen peppermint patties

Chop the peppermint patties in small pieces. Place heavy cream, sugar and vanilla in a stand mixer and whip until thick. Fold in walnuts and candy.

Remove ice cream from freezer and spread whipped cream mixture evenly on top. Place back in freezer and serve when top is hard.

Celebrating Christmas in July by Sharing Holiday Blunders

Stacey Stauffer

My first Christmas Dinner almost Burned Down the House!

New House, New Marriage, New Baby.  It finally came time to host my first, official family holiday dinner.  Christmas seemed like the perfect time to do it.  I actually had off from work, a rarity in the T.V. business.  I decided to make a traditional rib roast a la Emeril Lagasse with all the fancy trimmings… including a lyonnaise potato recipe courtesy of my favorite Philadelphia restaurant at the time: Le Bec Fin.

It would just be my immediate family -  a party of about 15.  Manageable, right?   I started prepping dinner Christmas Eve - roasting the garlic for the beef… cutting the strawberries for the shortcake and thinly slicing pounds upon pounds of potatoes, feeling very Parisian indeed.

I also felt so grown up, so proud, a true homemaker as I went to sleep that night.

Finally, the big day arrived. The presents were opened, the family was together and the amazing meal I had planned was slowly cooking in the oven.  Everyone was laughing and sharing great memories as I watched in awe at how easily things were coming together.  Of course, it was just at that moment when the "you know what" hit the fan.

All I can remember is the glaring sound that began to pierce our ears.  Confusion sunk in. Everyone went into a panic.  Where was that awful noise coming from?  And why is it getting hard to see inside the house?  Suddenly, smoke started filling up my downstairs.  I ran right to the stove and what did I see?  All those wonderful French potatoes I was so proud to make were now over-bubbling and burning at the bottom of the oven.  Leave it to a novice not to have a dutch oven big enough.

We quickly threw open the doors, rushed the kids outside the house and started fanning the smoke detectors in hopes of silencing the alarm.  IT DIDN'T WORK!  It kept going, the sound was so obnoxious it was hard to think.  Now the kids are crying, so we disconnected the smoke alarm in hopes of bringing peace and tranquility back to the house.  WHAT? NO LUCK!  The alarm was STILL going and that's when we realized the house alarm we installed at the house - included a fire alarm which sent a call STRAIGHT TO THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT.  By now it was too late - Just as we all looked at each other…. the sounds of fire engines - two of them - came speeding down our street.  Unfortunately, Old Saint Nick was not hitching a ride to bring more presents to the house.  Nope, it was the brave men and women of Ladder Company 41 - fully dressed - ready to fight fire. Oops! Sorry!

Long story short, (too late), the firefighters came inside and made sure everything was okay.  They were so kind but, of course, teased me a little and went on their merry way.  It’s a holiday memory I will never live down.  Stacey and her nearly life-threatening Christmas dinner.  It has made for one heck of a story…one I can proudly say, ended with a perfectly cooked, fabulous meal.. Le Bec Fin Potatoes and all!

Here is my recipe for Gratin Dauphinois - Le Bec Fin

serves 4-6

cooking time 1-2 hrs.

Ingredients

4 large Idaho Potatoes

2 gloves garlic, peeled & chopped

2 TB butter, softened

1 quart heavy cream

salt & pepper to taste

Directions:

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees

Slice potatoes into 1/8 inch thick rounds (a mandoline makes this much easier)

Generously butter baking dish or dutch oven

Place 1/3 of the potatoes in an even layer on bottom of dish

Add enough heavy cream to cover potatoes and season with garlic and salt & pepper

Repeat process twice more or until all potatoes are in dish and end with a layer of cream

Cover dish and bake 1 to 2 hours

Uncover last 10 minutes to brown top

Enjoy!

"New Year's Eve 2007 ...  here we are with our closest friends. We all decided we would ring in the New Year together and since all of us loved our cats & dogs so much, they all came too.  That did not go well.  The girl in the middle ended up getting cat scratch fever and ended up on the ER January 1st. Note to self: cats & dogs on New Year's Eve don't necessarily mix!"

"My Christmas blunder had to do with poor planning in the decorating department and it in no way compares to anything Stacey or Kerstin had to endure. It gave me a good laugh more than anything. I simply ran out of ribbon to trim the tree, but thanks to QVC, I was able to order more and it arrived before the big day and my company. Blessings, Mary Beth"

"This is our tree from last Christmas! If you look closely you will see weights anchoring our tree in hopes that she would continue to stand upright.. I admit that four days before Christmas your options are limited to a Charlie Brown tree or the only twelve foot tree on the lot..I got a really great buy so we trimmed three feet off of it and the salesman used a forklift to load it on the car.. The problem was my nine foot ceiling and the front door wasn't quite wide enough.

Once we got it wedged in the front door and again in the hall, I jammed it against the ceiling..when I cut the top it fell but after many attempts I tied it to the door..my thanks to Nicole's friend who helped us trim more off of the bottom and tie it to the weights.

I learned the important lesson of shopping earlier for our tree next time! Our angel is on the table next to the tree..I did; however, find a penny from heaven as we pulled the tree..I miss my Dad.."

The first concert I ever saw was Donny Osmond when I was 10 years old. When I was 19, I saw my second concert, The Commodores, and Lionel Richie was the lead singer. Ever since then, I've wanted to see Lionel again but didn't have the opportunity until last week.

My girlfriend, Heather and I were lucky enough to get third row seats! It brought back a lot of memories and made me feel young again!

I knew every song he sang, and of course, I sang along. When you hear music like that it takes you back to younger days with memories of good friends, roller skating to these songs, etc.

Lionel told us that Three Times a Lady was something his Dad used to say about his mom, so that's really interesting to know where that song came from!  It was a fun night and I met some QVC viewers there too!  Great night all around.

Cee Lo Green was the opening act.

What was your first concert?

Counting our blessings,

Mary Beth Roe

Permission to Play with Fall....

First things first, We love clothes. It's why we do what we do. Fall is a favorite season for fashion and a great opportunity to layer, mix, match and try out new trends. Here are some must haves for the upcoming season that I have always been a fan of. BUT, remember it's not about the trend for trend's sake it's really about what makes YOU happy. So try it!

Zipper Details -  A little unexpected design element keeps it functional and chic, I love playing with placement and angle with these edgy details

The Patterned Sweater - We love pattern and color. But can be so much more than just a graphic. Texture can be a fun way to play with this must have find in slub fabrics, waffle knits and even embellishments create the pattern effect...

The Square Satchel - Always and forever!  I'm a huge fan of this silhouette, it's classic and perfect. I have quite a collection...

The Statement Sweatshirt - New take on comfort makes these pieces totally chic, elevated and ready to wear. These pieces scream versatility, definitely day to night layering. I love an exaggerated hemline, and any opportunity to bring in color, embellishments take this staple to the dressed up level. So thrilled to see comfort taken to this chic place.

The New Flat - Finally! THRILLED that this is a must have! This is all about comfort and can be even chicer than a heel. An unexpected delight and just as chic

The Ankle-Buckle Bootie - I love this style, it adds a little rocker edge to a look and is a great alternative to a pump...

Hope you love! Catch us 8/1 4pm with new and fabulous Logo!

xx Lori

Where Did the Time Go?

Hello my LCNY fashionistas,

Where did July go?  I am officially putting the brakes on Summer, I need another month.  I feel like I can finally unwind and enjoy.  Here is the Davies update.  The newlyweds Meg and Matt are enjoying life....settling in to married life.  Perfect! Larry is happy to be in his apartment and getting used to a 40 hour work week...with two weeks vacation.  Welcome to the real world :).  Sarah and Bryan have now celebrated their one year anniversary and are picking up a dog Friday. Oh boy.......you know what that means first a dog and then.... Kevin moves in to college on August 20th.  Where did the time go?

I saw a sign posted on the local elementary school reminding parents that school starts on August 25th.  This will be the first time in 22 years that I will not be at a bus stop, packing lunches, getting the school supplies at staples and waiting at the end of the first day to hear all the news. I am not going to lie... It makes me a bit tearful.  So I decided the best way to handle this emotion is to pass on the baton.  Words of wisdom..

1.  Do not sweat the small stuff....it does not matter that they draw outside the lines, their penmanship is not perfect, they miss you everyday, they do not want to wear a jacket, they hate hats, and they only will eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for 6 years. Trust me....they are going to be ok.

2. There are going to be happy days with friends and very unhappy days with friends, by the time you try to help, they will be over it.  Really ....it blows like the wind every which way.  Just be there for support.

3.  Enjoy every single moment.   My Mom told me this when our twins were born.. I was so exhausted the first 6 months I can barely remember.  I wish I could rewind...cherish the moments.

4.  Sometimes our little darlings get burned out...school is tough.  We had a special day in the Davies house.  It was called a mental health day.  I would have the weary student take a day off with MOM.  We would have a backward lunch (dessert first) and rent or go to the movies.  Believe me these are the special things they remember not your perfect meatloaf.

Kevin will be moving on, Linda is growing up, and Wednesday morning we get to share an hour together.  I look forward to seeing you soon....grab that cup of joe and tune in at 9am....MBR and I will be looking for you.

Hey Mallynistas! I'm loving this set from Mally so much, I just had to show you! Find it here --> {Mally Set} This new TSV is called Simple Steps To A U, U Love & what I love about Mally is how she celebrates our unique individuality. Not only is she a super talented makeup artist, but she also has the tools to help you put a gorgois face together in a flash!

7 pieces of heaven!

Start with clean, moisturized skin.

Dab the under eye brightener. This is great when I have an overnight show & need to cover my dark circles!

Add the poreless perfection fluid foundation. Mix a little with moisturizer for a tinted look or layer for fuller coverage.

Pop on the evercolor shadow stick - it's a great daytime color or you can dress it up for a date night :)

This was a tricky pic!

Add 1-2 coats of mascara for a finished look.

Ta-Da!

When you're rushing out the door, what's your beauty go-to?

XOXO,

Courtney

Enjoying the Heart of Summer

I hope that everyone is enjoying the heart of the Summer like I am.  It has been a very busy summer with travel and family and all the kids home from school.  But the chaos is the fun part!  Entertaining outdoors is an everyday thing at my house this time of year.

As you know I am all about making life's tasks quick and easy, so I wanted to share with you one of my favorite things that I've been using this summer.

I just love love love my Oasis Folding Carts, in particular the Folding Island Kitchen Cart.  In addition to it being a great all purpose cart for uses in the home, it is equally great for use outside...just remember to always bring it in when the party is over!

Simply wheel it out next to the grill for a super convenient work prep station or put it by your table and load it up with all the food, buffet-style.  It also makes a great bar setup outside. That's how I used mine this past weekend.  Put your blender or your Margarita maker on top, load it with glasses, wine and other drinks and put your ice bucket down below filled with your beverages of choice.

I have also been using my Marseille Acrylic Wine Glasseswith it. Of course I love them so much I bought them in all four colors. They look great, match everything and if one falls onto the patio or deck surface, it's not a big deal.

At the end of the night I just load up all of my leftover food and dirty dishes onto the cart and wheel it back inside the house for easy cleanup.

Let me know back some of your favorite outdoor entertaining tricks.  I'd love to hear from you!

Snowball Cookies & Vacation Ornaments - Happy Christmas in July(R)!

Hi, everyone!

I took a look at my calendar today and did a double take…today is July 29! That means we’re almost into AUGUST! I just can’t believe how fast the summer is flying by…there’s so much I wanted to do with my kids before they go back to school!

I intend to make the most of the two days to come...especially because tomorrow there’s another episode of You’re Home with Jillat 7pm ET! AND, we have a few more days to celebrate Christmas in July®! So far, we’ve made a Drink Umbrella Wreath and I shared my recipe for Frozen Hot Chocolate. Tomorrow night, I’m going to show you another DIY project that you can make and enjoy now and then every Christmas to come...Vacation Ornaments.

Vacation Ornament

Aren’t they just so elegant? And imagine how nostalgic you’ll feel when you’re unwrapping all your ornaments in December and find this one. All the memories from your vacation will come flooding back and it’ll be summertime—if only for a second—all over again. Just one small word of caution before you bring the beach home. I’ve actually heard that some beaches frown upon folks removing sand and shells from the property. If you know your beach has such a guideline, simply recreate this from sand and shells you can find at your local craft store.

Now, back to the fun. After you’ve got all your supplies home, you’ll need a snack to munch on while you work. How do Snowball Cookies sound?

Snowball Cookies

Snowball Cookies
Makes 24–36 cookies, depending on the size

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 6 Tbsp powdered sugar + extra for finishing

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cream together the butter, shortening, and vanilla.  Stir in the flour, nuts, and powdered sugar and mix well.  Shape the dough into balls—my grandma always said, “smaller than a walnut, bigger than a cherry!”  Place the cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes, or until the bottom of the cookies become light golden brown.  Be sure to watch them carefully, as these can burn quite easily.
  3. Remove the cookie sheet from the oven and let cool slightly, just until the cookies can be handled. Roll them in the extra powdered sugar while they’re still warm.

My grandma made these cookies every Christmas and I’ve had similar cookies over the years…sometimes they’re called wedding cookies or tea cakes. But, my grandma mixed powdered sugar into the dough and it really sets these cookies apart. There’s that initial crispness when you take a bite, but then they just seem to melt in your mouth!

I’ll show you both projects tomorrow on You’re Home with Jill at 7pm ET. I hope you can join me!

From my home to yours,
—Jill

P.S. I nearly forgot! Our theme for August is “YHJ Inspired.” I don’t think you realize how much you all inspire me each and every day with your comments, suggestions, and posts. So I’d like to give YOU all a chance to shine. Send me photos of your kitchen—I’d love to see how you incorporated pops of color into your décor. I’m going to feature three of my favorites here in the blog, on the next episode of You’re Home with Jill, and on my social pages. Submit your photos to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and use #YHJInspired. Or, you can email them to us at yhj@qvc.com. Hurry—we need them by Thursday, 7/31. Thanks!
